I have been doing hair for over 25 years and I struggle with having clients who LOVE the flat iron but their hair breaks no matter the heat protector they use or the high priced flatiron that was promised to take care of their hair.

My clients always say that I can get their hair straighter than they can.  This is true but not because I spent 100s on my flat iron.  

The problem is when someone takes a section of hair and runs the flatiron along it the result is flat hair but not straight hair.  The secret is, the hair that goes into the flatiron has to be..... #1 completly dry, #2 completly straight.  That’s hard to do when you don’t have the right technique and/or the right tool.

DRY HAIR, NO MORE!

  I don’t know if anyone has noticed but it is super dry out there.  Even though we’ve had rain in January it is still dry.  What’s up with that?  A true tall tale sign is staticky hair.  You know what I’m talking about.  The hair that flies around with no wind that gets stuck in your lip gloss.  Man I hate that!

  So what are ya able to do about that?  Glad you asked, moisture, moisture and more moisture. Now, I know most of us use conditioner and that should do the trick right? WRONG!  It’s just not enough.  I tell all my clients that to be rid of the static you need to mask the heck out of your hair.  That means every time you wash it.  Now everyone is different and some of us need more than others.  I suggest that you do it for a few times in a row and see how your hair fairs.  If you have fine, limp hair you won’t need to do it as often but if you have crazy curly hair you will want to do it almost every time you shampoo during the winter.  

  BUT...just because I said every time you wash doesn’t mean the more you use the better it works.  Again depending on the amount of hair you have....The more you have, the more you need.  To make it most effective I recommend keeping a towel near by to towel dry your hair after shampooing. This with keep the mask from being diluted by water.  So towel dry your locks and then you’re ready to apply.  Start at the ends and work your way up.  Easy peezy.  Now shave your bits or do what you need do in the shower and let the mask do it’s job.  Usually 3-5 minutes will do the job.  For a bit more intense job enjoy a bath while it’s at work.  Rinse well!  Final step, if needed for tangles, lightly condition then rinse.  Style as usual.  There are products out there that lock in that moisture you just worked at getting into the hair but that’s another entry.
