So I am an undergraduate student in the United States. I won’t say my university for safety reasons as I go to a small public university. So I didn’t end up going to a “prestigious” university like my lifelong dream had been, and some days it bothers me, and other days it doesn’t. No matter what happened, the universe had a reason behind it. I am a double major in political science and Spanish with a minor in biology. I am in the final week of my second year at college.
My aspirations are to attend graduate school for a dual masters in environmental sustainability and public policy. From then on I want to pursue my Ph.D. and work in research and in politics. Ideally, I would work in a university or government agency doing research and working on policies until running for election. Starting off as mayor in my hometown and moving my way to a member of Congress representing my state. I’ve also considered in getting a Juris Doctor rather than my Ph.D., but that’s so far down the road I am not going to stress myself about it now. I want to do academia, research, and politics. A lifetime can have so many things.
I am a Resident Assistant, the current Vice President of Administration for our Honor Corps (the Honors Program social branch), and President-elect of Honor Corps, and will next year be the Vice President of Communication for our chapter of Alpha Phi Omega, the national co-ed service fraternity. Additionally, I am a member of our chapter of the American Association of University Women and a participant and site leader in our Alternative Breaks program (called Break Aways in some colleges). I’ve been on two Alternative Breaks trips so far and will be leading an environmentally-focused one in December.
To help satisfy credits for my Spanish major, I will be spending 9 weeks this summer studying in Cusco, Peru. There I will take 9 credits. When I return in the fall, I will be a part of one of our programs of distinctions based on academic merit and leadership development. Only ten students from the university are selected each year and that is considered a class, sort of. It’s a seminar, but you get credits. A part of that program is a trip to China at the end of the next school year.
This seemed long, but I wanted to document the things I will be doing next year to show my journey I am working through. My focuses are to learn how to focus, develop better study habits, learn the material deeply, develop more problem-solving skills, and become stronger. Stronger in every way possible: academics, intelligence, leadership skills, service, and physical health. I draw a lot of inspiration from Marvel’s superheroes, as so many others do. I always admired Tony Stark’s ability to create and solve any problem, the knowledge and intelligence of Bruce Banner, the badassery and cunning skills of Natasha Romanoff, the kindness but ruthlessness of Steve Rogers, and I just fucking love Thor Odinson.
I’m excited for whoever the hell may or may not read this to get to know me and how shitty I am at everything yet highly functioning somehow. It is currently 5 AM and I should be waking up but I am just now going to bed, at least supposed to be asleep. I probably won’t sleep.
