Oops, it’s boarding time! Another unfinished life drawing that I did while I was at the boarding gate of Adisupcito International Airport, Jogjakarta, Indonesia.
Strange enough, this is the first time that I ever draw a sketch of my wife. The drawing was done a week ago while we were waiting for our flight at Changi Airport. She was so engrossed in her reading.
Another quick life drawing that I did while commuting in the MRT; what attracted me was the green paper bag. I wonder what’s in it...
A quick life drawing of Peh, a fellow from Creative Singapore. The drawing was originally done in pencil. I only managed to find the time to ink it last night. It was funny that the pen running out of ink before I could really finish it.
An out-of-context drawing that I have done on the Christmas Eve. Originally it was a sketch I done after I have visited the Conney Island. But, it turned out to be something else...
I have seen two thoughtful middle-aged men while I was at a cafe working on my game design document. I try to sketch it down in a stealth-mode. But, I don’t know why I suddenly added a window into the composition afterward. Now come to think about it, maybe it is about the same old just pipe-dream that I hope to achieve someday; to own a fine-art studio place where I can make art and work for myself. We are not born to keep paying bills and die in bed. Suddenly, a quote comes to my mind...
A quick sketch that I did a week ago when I was stopping at the Jurong East Street 21. I remembered it was a quiet Sunday afternoon when I happened to spot a gentleman eating alone at a local eatery.
Singapore is a busy place; everywhere is almost overcrowded. Although having said so, I found that Singapore is a highly livable place. Believe it or not, one of the pleasure things that I treasure while living in this city-state is the freedom to drink and eat alone without needing to worry too much about other things, as everyone does it. In fact, it is a nice city culture to have for stepping out of yourself for an hour or two, be it is eating alone or growing old slowly.
It was another year-end term test week again; I got bored while invigilating two different examination events. I picked up a black ball pen and did a series of life drawings, which based on the facial expression that my students had exhibited when they were taking the test. Thanks to the boredom, I have found a new way that allows me to do art while keeping an eye on them.
Found a sketch that I did exactly one year ago. It was my first life drawing ever done inside an MRT when I was travelling home after having tea with Marcus Lim. I am still able to recall the conversation that we had that night at Bukit Batok; Marcus had shared with me his journey to become a historian painter.
Marcus's life stories not just evoked me to recall the dream that I have always dreamt about but dare not tread, but it also gave me a fresh perspective about art-making. The meet up had got me excited to an extent that I immediately did a life sketch. Too bad, this was also the only piece of drawing that I did. After that, I have not drawn anything for the next ten months.
