Beatrix Kiddo was tiny in size, but she carried an enormous story. At around six years old and barely six pounds, she was rescued after being found in a closet with puppies believed to be hers during a drug-house seizure in Kentucky. Foster Lyn and @brusselsgriffonrescue helped her begin again, before she travelled to New York and joined the family at @hanzobladeofsteel. She spent roughly the next eleven years being cuddled, kissed, protected and loved. She arrived shy, anxious and deeply clingy - a little monkey who needed to know her person was close. Then there was Hanzo. Beatrix loved him from the moment they met. He became her big brother, teacher and sidekick-in-chief, showing her how to trust, how to feel safe at home and how to enjoy being a dog. With him beside her, the frightened little rescue became funny, brave, affectionate and wonderfully silly. Beatrix grew into the perfect kid sister - full of scruffy charm, wild hair, tiny-dog determination and enough personality to fill every room. She shared her life with Chinta, Margaret K, Mavis, O-Ren and Shirley, but her bond with Hanzo remained something extraordinary. In her final chapter, Beatrix lived with canine cognitive dysfunction, and her family gently supported her through the harder days and nights. She reached an incredible 17 and a half years old. I am so sorry that this beautiful little soul had to leave. I hope Hanzo found her immediately, ready to guide his kid sister once more. Rest peacefully, Beatrix Kiddo. Some arrivals are not simply rescues - they are promises carried forward with love. ❤️ Belle was once a feral puppy who found the world terrifying. Soon after being adopted, she escaped into the woods and remained missing for more than 100 days. There were sightings, failed traps and heartbreaking near-misses, but her person never stopped searching. Eventually Belle came home, and over the years she slowly learned that safety, trust and love could be real. When her person later learned that her own time was limited, one of her greatest worries was who would understand Belle. @wildpinessanctuary spent months preparing for Belle and her brother Patch, getting to know them, walking Belle through the sanctuary and introducing her gently to new sights and sounds before the move. Her sanctuary gotcha chapter was built on familiarity, patience and respect - not pressure. Belle is cautious, sensitive and incredibly brave. She gives trust slowly, and Wild Pines will let her set the pace, celebrating every tiny victory along the way. No one can replace the person she lost, but the sanctuary can honour the promise made to keep her safe, loved and cared for. I cannot stop thinking about the love behind this transition. Chicago English Bulldog Rescue recently shared the most wonderful pictures of some of their alumni - the beautiful babies who found their forever homes. Seeing Bode among them made me smile so much. ❤️ Bode came to @chicagoebr in February 2020 after being found wandering the streets of Chicago and transferred from CACC. At intake, he had poor hearing and needed help with house-training. His foster family supported him with a belly band, frequent outdoor trips and plenty of patience while he settled into rescue life. He quickly showed everyone exactly what kind of boy he was - soft, laid-back, wonderfully squishy and very happy to enjoy a quiet weekend. One early CEBR post summed him up perfectly with just one word: “Squish.” On June 16, 2020, Bode’s Gotcha Day was announced. He had found the forever family who would adore him, and by August CEBR shared that their lovely alumnus was living his best life. His family later said that Bode made them smile every single day, which feels like the perfect description of his legacy. I love seeing rescue alumni celebrated like this. Every photo is a reminder that behind each happy face is a journey through uncertainty, foster care, healing and finally home. Two little legends, one very full heart 🐾🖤 On our left is beautiful Poppy - Chrissy’s precious girl, queen of the house, owner of the magnificent moustache, tiny ballerina feet and enough opinions to run a small council meeting. On our right is Wilf, also known as Wilfie, Wiffie, and Sir Wigglemouth the Third. He is Chrissy’s daughter’s dog, but by family law and sheer devotion, he is Poppy’s nephew, shadow, inspector and best friend. That lopsided little mouth is not a flaw - it is a masterpiece. Poppy came to Chrissy years ago from a harder place, and found the softest landing. Since then, she has been loved through every chapter - vet visits, paw worries, a nail rip, tummy days, scans, new meds, difficult decisions, thunder scarves, firework nests, groomer days and all the chest rubs she could possibly demand. She loves the hairdryer at the groomers, supervises the garden, snarffles strawberries, wages war on empty pop bottles, and barks at absolutely nothing and absolutely everything. A versatile queen. And Wilf? Wilf loves her in that pure dog way that makes your heart wobble. He looks back to check she is there. He inspects her after grooms. He stays close. He has the energy of a tiny, devoted bodyguard with a wonky smile and a PhD in Poppy Studies. Chrissy @chrisssy19 is one of my closest online friends - kind, funny, warm, gloriously Mackem, and bonded to me through giraffes, goats, Maybel at @goatsofanarchy, and the very serious business of loving animals too much. I drew Poppy and Wilf because some friendships, some dogs, and some little ordinary moments deserve to be kept forever. Happy belated Gotcha Day to the one and only King Winslow, Sir Winslow The Wise, @winslow_the_aussiebulldog 👑 On March 26th 2021, Winslow officially came home and began his reign as Sydney’s most distinguished Aussie Bulldog/Bosdog potato. He was not a rescue - he was the tiny monarch his family chose, and he has been ruling hearts, couches, snack schedules and the puparazzi ever since. Winslow’s bio logic is flawless: he loves food and he loves his humans because they give him food. Honestly, no notes. Five-star reasoning. This boy has built an entire kingdom on slobber, expert side-eye, perfectly timed headbutts, big bulldog grins and the kind of happy chaos only a true bulldog can deliver. I love how Winslow is funny without even trying. One minute he is Sir Winslow The Wise, the next he is a majestic potato trying to bake in peace while the camera dares to exist. His face says royal dignity, his tongue says absolutely not, and his whole vibe says “where is my snack tribute?” He has also become part of a lovely bulldog community, with friends and fans cheering him on, including @buddy.aussiebulldog and @bullie__hub. Buddy from @buddy.aussiebulldog may have a private account, but somehow he still managed to leave a very public little pawprint in bulldog land. He appears in @winslow_the_aussiebulldog's world in the best possible way - as part of a gloriously wrinkly meet-up with Buddy, Muffin, and Winslow himself, also known as the King. And honestly, if an Aussie Bulldog is being called the King, I am not arguing. I am simply bowing respectfully and offering snacks. I do not have Buddy's private details, so I am not going to invent a gotcha day, medical history, or family story. What I can celebrate is the bit that is visible - Buddy is part of a much-loved bulldog circle, connected to Winslow and Muffin, and clearly memorable enough to make me go full detective over one squishy-faced mention. There is something especially lovely about these little bulldog friendship trails. One private account, one public clue, one royal Winslow cameo, and suddenly there is a whole tiny world of Aussie Bulldog charm to smile about. @maximus_the_englishbulldog Some dogs are not just loved by their family - they somehow become part of everyone’s day. Maximus, sweet Max, was absolutely one of those dogs. He had that proper English Bulldog magic: the big expressive face, the silly little poses, the smiley energy, the “I am very serious business” look while being completely ridiculous, and the ability to make strangers online feel like they knew him personally. He was fun, loving, full of character, and had the kind of face that could improve a Monday without even trying. I love how much personality Max packed into every photo. The dress-up moments, the smiley posts, the bulldog community fun, the wonderfully squishy expressions - he was never just “a cute bulldog.” He was Max. Instantly recognisable. Completely himself. A little comedy legend in a wrinkly suit. His family clearly adored him, and it is so obvious why so many people online adored him too. He brought joy, laughs, comfort, and that very special bulldog brand of chaos-softness into people’s feeds. Those dogs who make the internet feel a bit kinder are rare, and Max was one of them. @busterbrownbully is one of those pages that carries so much love in its little bulldog heart. Buster Brown will always be the original legend - the beautiful boy who started the story, the forever King of Tongue Out Tuesday, and the one whose memory still sits right at the centre of the account. His dates, 3/4/10 - 1/17/21, say he lived a full life, but anyone who has loved a dog knows it is never, ever long enough. Then along came Bruno, born 6/29/21, with his big personality, silly-boy energy, and talent for making hearts feel lighter again. His Gotcha Day is celebrated on August 27, and what a gift that day turned out to be. He arrived after grief, but somehow managed to bring joy, laughter, snuggles, and a healthy dose of bulldog chaos back into the house. Happy belated Gotcha Day love for @bulldogwrigley - the Minneapolis bulldog gentleman with the silver-sprinkled face, champion-level side-eye and a toy collection that clearly requires its own legal department. Wrigley’s 10th Gotcha Day anniversary was celebrated on October 25, complete with surf and turf and a new Chuckit Giggle Ball - because after a decade of being this handsome, the good sir has earned restaurant-level service and squeaky chaos. He is everything I adore about bulldogs: dignified, stubborn, hilarious, soulful, and somehow able to look deeply offended even while being completely adored. His slower walks, white muzzle and wise little face make him extra precious, but he still has plenty of business to attend to - park strolls, sunset supervising, lake-life lounging, ball management, and making sure no broom is safe from theft. I also love that Wrigley can switch from rugged Carhartt model to Jolly Ball enthusiast in about three seconds, especially if treats are involved. He has that perfect bulldog magic: part old soul, part comedy goblin, part beloved household legend. This gorgeous British bulldog boy has the most wonderfully serious little face - the kind that says, “I have reviewed your suggestion of a walk and I regret to inform you that I am unavailable.” His family share his sleepy, stubborn, funny, affectionate personality so perfectly, and it is impossible not to fall for him. Today I am thankful for @gordonthefatty - the English Bulldog king of the couch, the rolls, the side-eye, and the “yes, I absolutely do need help getting up here even though we both know I can do it myself” lifestyle. 🙏🍗 Gordon has that perfect bulldog magic where doing almost nothing somehow becomes premium entertainment. One look, one blink, one tiny grumble, one dramatic pause before moving at the speed of a sleepy loaf - and suddenly he has everyone completely under his spell. I love how much personality fits into that squishy face. He has the expression of a tiny household manager who has reviewed the service, the seating arrangements, and the snack schedule, and frankly has notes. He is charming, stubborn, funny, cosy, and very clearly adored - exactly as he should be. Some dogs enter a room. Honestly, I was not prepared for this level of plaid-and-pearls power dressing. Waffles - born Feb 11, 2022, gotcha day Apr 16 - is the household CEO, Baby Girl, HRH, and apparently Head of Judgemental Looks. She gives “very demure, very mindful,” but also “staff will be reviewed quarterly.” Walter - born July 9, 2023, gotcha day Aug 15, 2024 - came into the family after they were heartbroken from losing beautiful Wilbur. He had once been little Bob, met Wilbur and Waffles as a baby, and then somehow found his way back when love was needed most. That feels like the universe gently tapping the door with a bulldog paw. I do not have any confirmed medical details for Waffles or Walter, so I’m keeping that part honest - no inventing, no dramatic nonsense, just two beloved bulldogs looking outrageously fabulous. Fun facts: Waffles has pink-party, pearl-necklace, CEO energy. Walter has tongue-out, gold-chain, chaos-assistant energy. Together they look like they are launching a luxury flannel brand, auditing the snack drawer, and silently judging everyone’s outfit choices. I loved turning them into this cartoon portrait because they are not just cute bulldogs - they are characters. Big faces, big outfits, big feelings, and just enough attitude to require their own legal department. @wendy.and.rolo I had to draw Yeti and Rolo in their natural habitat - full bulldog biteyface mode, where nobody knows the rules, both faces are made of mashed potato, and somehow love is the clear winner. Yeti, aka Yetisha Mae Spaghetti, came to @wendy.and.rolo through @chicagoebr as a foster on February 28. For weeks, she did very little as she settled in and dealt with everything her little body had been through. Then, just a few days after having her eye removed, April 26 happened - and suddenly the ginger girl decided it was time to play. And not just a polite little play bow. No. She chose Rolo as her personal wrestling coach, emotional support brother, and full-time jowl chew toy. Rolo, a @chicagoebr alum and resident snack inspector, has taken the role very seriously. He flops, wiggles, throws his paws around, lets Yeti practice her biteyface technique, and somehow looks both delighted and deeply inconvenienced at the same time. Honestly, if Yeti keeps this up, Rolo is going to lose SO much weight. Forget diet food - this is Bulldog CrossFit. One round of Yeti-powered face wrestling and he has earned a nap, a biscuit, and possibly a small union. I love these two because the videos are not just funny. They show trust, confidence, healing, and a friendship forming in real time. Yeti found her spark. Rolo found his workout plan. Just to start - yes, this picture is AI, but for reasons below, I am flagging... A little life update from the Slightly Broken Human Department. Over the last couple of weeks, life has been playing silly buggers. I am stuck in bed 24 hours a day, which is every bit as glamorous as it sounds - not at all. My neck and shoulders have joined the rebellion, household germs, age, heredity have been doing the rounds, “the other one” has also been under the weather, and there has been family illness, hospital stress, and the emotional admin that comes with it. On top of that, I am having to be taken out to the dental hospital for treatment, which I am finding properly terrifying. My body, brain and bravery levels have filed formal complaints. So if you have noticed that my usual productivity of nonsense - drawings, captions, animal appreciation essays and general chaos - has gone quiet, that is why. I have hundreds of drawings nearly finished, captions waiting, and a brain staring at them like a confused pigeon looking at a spreadsheet. Some days there may be nothing. Some days, if the energy gremlin briefly returns my spoons, I may suddenly post 20 or 30 things and pretend that is normal. It is not a strategy. It is more of a creative sneeze. Pain, tiredness, low mood, procrastination and life being life have slowed me down. I am still here. I still love making things. I still care enormously about the animals, rescues, sanctuaries, friends and lovely humans I usually post about. Some of you may be quietly rejoicing that the output has dropped. Enjoy the peace while it lasts. Others may be wondering where I have gone. I have not abandoned ship - I am just lying very flat in it. Please bear with me. And please do not abandon me either. @maverickofthetrio - I have followed since the account started, and I honestly cannot believe that beautiful Maverick, Millie and Matilda have all now passed. The happy trio is together again, but it is just heartbreaking that they had to leave their family so close together. Millie Bean - approx 11 July 2016 to 23 May 2025 - was the laid-back, gentle girl who helped her family through so much. Losing her so suddenly to hemangiosarcoma of the heart was devastating. Matilda - approx 10 April 2020 to 4 May 2025 - was born and raised by her family, and loved her mum with her whole heart. She was only five when osteosarcoma took her, far too young and far too soon. Maverick - approx 5 April 2019 to 12 May 2026 - fought lymphoma so bravely. He made it to his 7th birthday, soaked up sunshine, enjoyed his treats, and was loved through every single second. The fact his person held him when he came into the world and held him again as he left says everything about the life he had - wrapped in love from beginning to end. I know Millie and Matilda were waiting for him, tails wagging, ready to make the trio whole again. Thank you for sharing them with us. They were not just dogs on a screen - they became part of our hearts too. Run free together, beautiful trio.
