oh so scary how do you deal with persecutors #torturethemback
Rejection sensitivity dysphoria is the weirdest ADHD symptom ever. Like hello yes my weird brain chemistry manifests as Whiny Crybaby Disorder
btw this is not a universally agreed upon "symptom" of ADHD and I think many people would benefit from treating it as part & parcel of ADHD's broad, foundational trait: inability to do emotional regulation. A feeling of total rejection and terror at failure is a treatable and manageable issue. For me, I found it easier to manage once recognized that the reason I was having these reactions is that like many other emotional states, I couldn't "exit" an emotional state related to feelings of rejection once I was in it.
imo way too many people are going through life thinking they're just going to be sensitive to rejection for life because of how some people (not OP, but definitely plenty of ADHD influencers) talk about this "symptom." I don't think it's terribly productive that it gets constantly cordoned off as its own thing. like a lot of ADHD, while it sucks to have it shape your life up to the point you realize what it is, it is indeed possible to exposure therapy & DBT your way out of it.
signed: someone with ADHD who used to not be able to take critical feedback from anyone every and is now a freelancer and gets critical feedback three times before breakfast. still workin on it but it's very possible to go from "whiny crybaby disorder" to "mostly functional, if slightly sensitive ADHD adult"
I also think it's worth noting that rejection sensitive dysphoria is most parsimoniously interpreted as a trauma reactionโa learned response to a potential signals of social relationship deteriorating for reasons the ADHD person can't necessarily control. Social relationships are incredibly important to humans, and ADHD (especially undiagnosed and undisclosed) really sets us up to fail. This is especially true given that perceived social blame for stressful situations is a massive factor in transmuting stressful experiences into lasting trauma, and ADHDers are typically judged to be personally responsible for the failures that happen as a result of attentional, time awareness, or memory failures.
What conceptualizing RSD as a category of trauma response to social triggers does is allow us to treat it like any other trauma response. It pulls RSD out of the bioessentialist framework and into the realm of injuries that can be treated, learned associations that can be unlearned. It turns out that the same techniques that help with PTSD triggers, including the same damn meds (hi, clonidine), are effective for helping reduce RSD. (It also explains why RSD is also common in autistic people, who often have a similar history of social error and narratives of self blame, without requiring inherent neurological differences.)
It's a common kind of stress injury, basically. It's not Whiny Crybaby Disorder; it's more like shin splints. Getting better shoes for running, being careful about the ground you run on, and letting the splints heal properly can all help make shin splints go away when you've been running barefoot on concrete roads your whole life.

eventually you realize you donโt want to die. you just donโt want to live the life youโre living. and slowly you try to create a life you want to live. just gotta start there.
no one needs to add โsounds fake but okโ, โnoโ, โwell, not meโ, โimpossibleโ, etc. to this post. and iโd rather you not.
one day you think: I want to die.
and then you think, very quietly: actually. actually. I think I want a coffee. a nap. a sandwich. a book.
and I want to die turns day by day into I want to go home, I want to walk in the woods, I want to see my friend, I want to sit in the sun
I want a cleaner kitchen
I want a better job
I want to live somewhere else
I want to live

Comics and other artworks by "Noah" submitted to Many Voices Newsletter from multiple issues, each attributed and described in alt text. With special exception, Noah's submitted thesis on their work reads as follows:
I read somewhere that humor is born from sadness and tragedy. I don't think that's true in all cases, but perhaps in some degree mine. Our Internal Communication System are Animals. Drawing them since I was a child, I would hide them under a corner of the carpet in my room. Drawing wasn't encouraged and "secrets" had to be kept. They were created and drawn, after the abuse, when we would "leave" and "come back" from our journeys. A technique I could also obtain by rocking or banging my head on my mattress with a monotonous hum to sleep. (Altering the state of consciousness, I've come to learn.) In being alone here, there were always animals or people there, to comfort and help. So we became animals, drawing our life masked in symbols and humor. "We've" been in-and-out of therapy before, and "our help from there" diagnosed us here. (Much to the therapist's surprise and confirmation.) But artwork wasn't understood or used much in therapy and "head banging" was out of the question. Soโฆleaving therapy, going back, being turned away, and not finding much else, we realized traditional psychotherapy just doesn't work for us. And in being the "psychotherapy misfits" that we are, I turned to our own, old resources. Once again we are banging our head (a 24" drum head, that is), drawing, and finding ourselves, our stories, and our help! Mayhem is not on paper and not acted out so much in daily life. I find much humor in our "human condition" (especially when I'm drawing it, and not living it). I thought in sending this, it might help others to see their humorous side, and to know they're not alone. And besides the factโฆwe don't have carpet anymore. Just hardwood floors! By Noah, MV

trying to find oneโs true self, though there isnโt just one.
on more than one occasion some people have asked us to show the differences in our art. so over the last few months we went through and made a (not complete, but small sample) of the differences in our work, both digital and traditional, as well as pre/prior to dormancy for one part.
rust is only not represented here because his art is spotty + he never really starts/finishes pieces himself... moreso just gets work done.
