Important things to keep in mind!

- never take from ‘mom and pop’ type store. Its likely you’ll actually harm them, whereas taking from a walmart wont effect much.

- never take items that a worker is assigned to monitor (usually super expensive items), theyll be in trouble for it. and its usually a minimum wage worker and usually they lose hours or pay, or they even get fired.

- similar to the above, never take things that are usually locked up for the above reason

- if its a store you know gives their near-expiration products to workers/charity, try to avoid taking the near expiration products.

- if youre taking clothing, avoid leaving hangers. it sounds weird, but itll make it seem like it was more likely an error in the computer than a theft, since the empty hanger sitting there will seem suspicious. 

- also for clothing, try not to take more than one item at once, as it will look suspicious if theres 10 medium shirts missing, and it won’t be written off as just a stocking error. and it will lead to workers being penalized

- basically just always consider ‘will this harm a worker’ and if the answer is yes then dont do it

like i was homeless for a while when i was younger and i tried to follow those guidelines to avoid doing harm to people who were probably not much better off than me while trying to get food for myself.

it’s a thing. I won’t even lie. I watched someone slip a nursing exam book in their bag at the store I worked at. She made eye contact with me and the blood drained from her face. I simply gave her a sympathetic nod and walked away.

I live in a small town and I knew she was a waitress at a hotel my sister works at, and people at that hotel don’t tip well during off season. Nursing exam books are 50+ bucks. Being a med student myself, I didn’t even breathe a word, and when inventory came up later and the book was missing, I suggested it was likely a mislabel, and the manager wrote it off.

Sometimes, thievery is a necessity. Don’t send people to jail over petty shit.

I literally have running shoes from 2 years ago. I’m running 7 days a week and I’m in desperate need of running shoes. I have NO sweat pants/shirts. I have a pair a socks (rest are knee socks & tights). I have literally 1 bra and 3 sports bra and I do sports 7 days a WEEK AND IM ONLY ALLOWED TO USE THE WASHING MACHINE ON WEEKENDS. ONCE. Ah I finally got new sneakers so happy!

I wanted to get/probably could have gotten another pair but I felt like I shouldn’t get greedy bc I haven’t lifted from that store in a while and a few SA’s were wandering around my blindspot organizing shoes. I just de-tagged and popped them in my purse and peaced out ✌️. I’ll probs go back for another pair in a few weeks.

It’s been a really long time guys.

I finally moved out and have been living on my own (outside of dorms) for the first time for the last 9 months or so. With this has come the responsibility of being financially in charge of myself. I’ve heavily utilized everything I learned in this community to help myself afford to live. Shoplifting has become a means of survival. Basically the only way I’m able to eat. Because of this it stopped being fun and exciting and just became a chore. Something that I had no choice over. So that’s where I’ve been. I’m going to try to be more active again, I just don’t have much to show outside of groceries. (Which I can show if that’s something you’d like to see.) Don’t go to a store consistently! Even if you’re waiting a long time like 3-4 weeks like this lifter did, be careful you’re not starting a pattern (going at the same time of day, on the same weekday, etc) because obviously this lifter must’ve had some form of consistency when going to the store since one employee recognizes them this second they leave.

@liftynaty I saw your question on my magnet post so I thought i’d just make a separate post about it. Basically, there’s no guarantee there will or will not be a magnet detector. It seems to depend on location. If they have a big loss issue, they may install them. If they have them, they’ll be at the dressing room as seen below. This is a good thing because you can enter the store but you don’t have to enter the dressing rooms. You may be able to scope them out or just go without a magnet and scope the store out one day, then come back with it if there’s no detector.

This one is made by CONTROLTEK.

Some stores have towers that can detect booster bags. These will not be at the dressing room, but will be installed at the enterence!

This is the foil detector made by Sensormatic. It is installed WITHIN the towers to the same router.

Below is another kind of foil/booster bag detector.

This is the hyperguard by CONTROLTEK. These can either be stand alone systems or they will be next to regular towers. If you see two sets of towers, it’s likely the second is for foil detection.

do y’all think this is a magnet detector? it’s a small square panel in a nördström’s dressing room. I tried to examine it a bit but it wouldn’t move. it also has what seems to be a layer of black felt or something over it.

Yep looks like the new ‘Vitag fitting room guard’. It sends an alert to the SAs pagers and they can stop you when leaving the store 😔
