“GET DOWN!” THE GIRL shouts as she launches herself into the air, using the support of a boulder. Ciri flies through the air, silver blade in hand. It takes a moment before she’s slicing through a leathery wing and falling to the ground. Rolling with her momentum, the blond vaults back to her feet, ready for another go. But the creature has been slain, black too everywhere.

Smirking, Ciri cleans off her blade as she goes back to Ophelia. “You okay? Did you get hit?”

“HOW DID YOU LEARN TO PLAY?” the girl questions, admiring Jaskier’s instrument. She had been given lessons in many musical devices and Ciri had failed all of them. Much to the dismay of her tutors and grandmother. While the girl appreciates the arts, she wasn’t any good at them.

“Did you teach yourself or did you have an instructor?”

SHE FIDGETS AGAIN, ADJUSTING the neckline of her dress. Who knew that fabric could be so uncomfortable?

A sharp heel slams into Cirilla’s shin, causing the girl to pause her squirming. Looking up, emerald hues land on her grandmother. The ashen one offers an apologetic smile, mouthing sorry. But she really isn’t. Courtly duties are boring.

a murmur that comes with great weight, for there are multiple answers to this question : she could offer the simple truth, a name given by a human mother long before the girl’s grandmother was birthed. or perhaps she could offer the legends, the ones the princess must have heard as a babe to be kept away from the darkness. but in the end, myths & truth merge into one as she offers a smile that holds only amusement. « demanding names is a dangerous game, rhenawedd. » and while she does not bow nor show more respect that she would to anyone else, there is a gleam of recognition in her eyes as she pronounces the nickname. « too much power in a name. »

QUESTION IS SPOKEN WITH AN INNOCENT TONGUE. The world has opened up for Ciri, showing her just how vast and unknown it is.

With guilt that she looks down, trying to understand the foreign word. Her Elder Speech is lacking but she is confident that that is what it’s from. Triss had taught her much but the lessons are difficult.

“I beg your pardon,” the ashen haired one finally says, bringing her head up. While she may no longer live in Cintra, Ciri is still a princess. “You can call me Ciri, though.” A wicked grin flashing across her lips. “I am used to mystery. If you desire to remain anonymous, or use as false name, I understand.”

The bard had paused when called out on it. His head shook a moment, more shaking himself out of something than in response to her. “—-Sorry, I…” Cornflower gaze focused on her for a moment, properly. “You look like your mother.”

WHILE HER FACE IS expressionless, Ciri had ment the question as a joke. A barb. But then Dandelion mentions her mother and the color drains from the girl’s face. A woman she hardly remembers.

Eyes look down, focusing on the rim of her drink. “You knew her?” she whispers.

Yennefer stops the young girl with a hand gripping onto her shoulder. “You can and you will.” She tugs the witcher girl back until her head bumps into the sorceress. “You will not improve if you push past your limits. Save what strength you have and rest. It will do you far greater than exhausting yourself. Build up your stamina and rest.”

THERE ARE NO OTHER GIRLS AT KAER MORHEN. They are woman. And they are sorcerers. As far as Ciri is concerned, she’s the only female witcher. Thus, making it clear she has something to prove. So she tries to fight against Yennifer’s grip but it’s futile. The woman is strong. And Ciri isn’t trying very hard. “Just once more,” she says, tilting her head up to look at the sorceress. “Please.”

Geralt cannot protect her from that , he knows. His hand curls around the cup in his hand.

SHE TRIES TO PUSH GERLAT’S words aside. Doesn’t want her mood to dampen. Ciri had been the princess in the tower. Her grandmother trying to protect her from the world. The girl could understand, she supposed. Especially after Nilffgaard’s attack. But Ciri is in the real world now. Fairtales are the only scrap of hope she has left. And Gerlat had been her knight in shining armor.

“I beg to differ,” she huffs, eyeing the man with mischief. “You rescued the damsel and you slay monsters. Sounds like a prince to me.” A coy smile forms on her lips as Ciri leans back on her bench, picking at her food. She isn’t hungry.

A DEEP TIMBER PENETRATES THE AIR, accenting the cracking and popping of smoldering embers. Emerald hues dart back and forth, looking from one broken form to another. When the smoke clears for just a moment, Ciri spies movement. There!

With haste the girl surges forward, mindful of her suroundings. Eyes settle on a man with wavy locks. Look around, Ciri looks for any sign of the sphere jumber. She comes up empty.

Falling to her knees, the ashen one scans the man, looking for damage. “Are you alright? What happened?”

Blood stains his legs and his head. But he’s breathing and alert. it’s a start.

she remembers well how it felt to be in a similar place. young, alone and burdened with the knowledge she was different. her gaze flickers up from the fire before them. she studies the girl quietly with a thoughtful expression. an understanding one. to be different can be terrifying enough. to be different and alone is a waking nightmare. magnolia has lived a life of horrors. she hopes ciri can be spared such fate. she sees it clearly, that she has already walked a dark enough path as it is.

magnolia’s head tilts to the side and a pensive crease forms between her brows. ❛ what about it scares you? ❜ eyes lighten to an amber hue as she pushes the thought from her mind into the other’s. ❛ is it what you can do? or what you’re afraid others want you to do with it? ❜

THE QUESTIONS STILLS CIRI’S heart, plunging her into icy coldness. The fire fails to combat the chill of Magnolia’s question. Emerald hues grow round as she stares at the other from across the fire.

“I’m terrified because I don’t know how to control it. How to access it. It’s as if it has a mind of its own.” The ashen one remembers many conversations Gerlat had with Triss about such matters. “The closest I got to controlling it was being in the company of Yennifer.”

Chewing on her lip, the girl grows silent. After a spell, she adds, “I never considered that people might use me for it. I know that Nilfgaard wants me dead because I’m the heir to Cintra.” At least, that’s what Ciri is assuming. “The Witchers wish to train me as one of them...” Eyes grow vacant as thoughts drift off. “I don’t know where I belong anymore.”

Yennefer takes a seat on the nearest bench, folding one leg neatly over the other. “How does it feel when you hold that sword in your hands?” she asks. The girl reaches for it like she would a stuffed doll. Geralt has gone to great lengths to find a proper sword for the young girl. Not too big, not too small - just perfect for her small hands to wrap around with the power needed for a Witcher without toppling her over. “It’s like an extension of you, is it not?”

She leans back against the bench. Hands flat on her leg and watches the girl mindlessly go through her forms with the sword. She’s spent a lot of time training with Geralt. It’s evident by the positions of her body, the way the sword twirls in her fingers. “Magic is the same thing. The only difference is that you cannot physically see it. You have to feel it.”

SWEAT DRIPS DOWN HER TEMPLE, breath coming in equal, calm pants. Her body reacts on muscle memory, mind focusing on Yennifer’s words. How does the sorceress know so much about swordplay? Does she know how to handle a blade?

“It feels good,” Ciri says. “Like it’s apart of me.” Words are confirmation of Yennifer’s statement. But when she utters the difference between magic and swordplay, the girl stops.

The tip hits the ground, weight resting on the pommel. “I don’t feel anything.” she says. “In fact, Triss has done many tests, and the witchers, they think I don’t have magic.” But that isn’t the case. No. She does have magic. She’s Elder Blood. “And yet, I fall into trances, speak in gibbers, and know things I shouldn’t.” Ciri frowns, all gusto for swordplay vanishing. “What’s wrong with me?”
