Well. Here I am again.
I’m not sure if I’ve come back yet. I want to, but I also have a lot going on in life right now. So we’ll see. But I’m glad to see some of my friends still here. And with any luck, by April/May I’ll be able to try and really come back to writing Tywin (and all the madness over at @beforethesummer too, of course).
For now, I’m alive! And at least half-lurking about.
...y’all I made a horrible mistake: I binged the entirety of RWBY up to volume 7 (despite my First membership, waiting on more of the season to air before watching it) and now I am. Incredibly invested in the idea of playing Doctor/Professor Oobleck.
I did not sign up to love me a green haired history nerd with extreme ADD, but here we are, and I would die for this man.

The old lion almost smiled. Almost. As it was, the expression was at least friendly enough. The bards hardly exaggerated as much as he might have preferred…but the young she-wolf reminded him all too well of a wild lioness.
“I don’t much care for the events myself. If you draw your sword, it should be in training or in true battle; not to prove who can dent another’s armor first.” His tone was mild and thoughtful, even as he watched with keen eyes as the tourney grounds were prepared for the day’s events. “But I must admit, it will be rather interesting to see if our renegade knight of the Laughing Tree returns.”
As dangerous as Aerys’ temper had become, and as much as he secretly feared for whatever brave, foolish soul had elected to taunt the king so…there was a certain satisfaction in seeing his brother friend king thwarted so. And in seeing his current Hand scramble to please him. Poor bastard.
“Tell me, Lady Lyanna, if you would humor me: who do you think our mystery fighter is?”

For all the shielded hatred the Realm seemed to show the Lannisters, Ashter couldn’t say he was one of them. The Baratheon boy has never known anything but love for the Lions — appropriate since he’s been Tywin’s ward for a very long while. It was nice to feel no judgement, spare the time he spent with Cersei and Jaime ; those two often felt similar to Robert and Stannis, making jabs at Ashter’s soft nature and keen interest in poetry. It was Tywin and Tyrion who saw fit to take the Baratheon as he was, he was smart in any case — not as smart as some, no clever as others but he had wits about him none the less; and that seemed enough for the lord of the house.
“Good morning, my Lord.” The boy offers, mop of thick chestnut curls shivering slightly as he took his seat at the table in the great hall. Casterly Rock was beautiful indeed with so many breath taking views to behold and interesting people to meet ; it was almost hard to remember he was a Baratheon at all, the way others spoke to him — then it was to be expected of course, Ashter had been Tywin’s ward since his eighth name day. “I regret to inform you I’ll be your only company while we break fast — Lady Cersei has fallen ill and Lord Tyrion seems to be missing ; though no one seems very worried about him.” The Baratheon says lightly, offering a gentle smile as he raises to his feet.
“I suppose I am...unsurprised.”
More than likely, his daughter was still pouting at him over what she considered his latest slight, and Tyrion...he didn’t even want to know where the whelp had gone. Likely off with Kevan somewhere, or hiding in the library to escape his notice. It’d be in keeping with his usual wonts.
The lion settled into the chair at the head of the table, leaning back with a cup of hot tea. He could certainly use it this morning; his fingers were cool with morning chill, and the stone of the Rock had yet to warm in the misty, dew-laden morning. It would be some time before the castle was warm enough to not require fires going in the frequented places.
“And what were your plans for the day, then?” he asked after a moment, emerald eyes - shot through with veins of gold - watching the Baratheon boy keenly.

Guys bear with me but what if, what if!!, I made my multimuse @beforethesummer a mainblog...and Tywin my sideblog....
Okay so I wound up taking an unexpected mini hiatus due to some things...and I am still on it. Why?
Well. First, I need some dental work done. A filling and a crown, mostly, so my next couple of weeks are going to be scraping together some money and trying to help my mom offset the charge for the latter (crowns are Spendy, even with insurance).
Secondly: I now have a 6-7week old kitten who has been really limiting my sleep. He goes into the vet tomorrow, so I’ll know some more about him, how he’s doing, etc. But yeah I am far from well-rested because of him. And until I know he’s alright, I’ll likely not be around too much.
Upside though: I got Corel’s Painter 2019 and Paint Shop Pro Ultimate for $25 from Humble Bundle (I recommend that bundle 100% for anyone who does edits and stuff; it may not be Photoshop but it’s good stuff) and while I’m barely awake, I might try my hand at making Balerion, Vhagar, and Meraxes edits...gotta learn somehow.
So, quick semi-hiatus update: I was gonna get some drafts done this last weekend, and actually be productive after my family’s big house project. Except, it turns out that an old wrist injury got inflamed from the work, and I can’t use my left hand for much, including typing.
So, until I can take my brace off and actually use my left hand, guess I’m on a semi-hiatus. I can read the dash, but typing hurts a lot, so. I just gotta wait this out. Hopefully this’ll only be a few days.

He could take the small nod for the thanks it was. He…honestly wasn’t expecting much more–Tywin wasn’t precisely the demonstrative sort, and this had to be a blow to the man’s pride. The two factors wouldn’t exactly combine to leave him heaping praises on Petyr’s name. Still, he was glad for the little he got.
And then blushed even deeper when Tywin turned the question around on him. Oh…God, that was a loaded question. How old did he think Tywin was? He always sucked at judging adult ages…but…well, he had an idea of what he thought, at least. “…Thirty, maybe? No older than thirty-five, definitely…”
The Lannister raised a brow, not quite smiling at the answer...but not quite not smiling, either. Thirty-five? Well. Those days were past him, certainly. Still, it was amusing nevertheless, to hear that. He was working on a decade past that...not quite there, but. Approaching.
Still, it explained the slight...if he was only thirty-five, he would have only been eighteen when Petyr was born....and he was far from that. Let alone if he was thirty.
“I’m forty-two, as it happens. My ego will take the compliment, however.”
Do you think Tywin's ridiculous philosophy that you shouldn't love anyone ever may have been rooted in the breakdown of his relationship with Aerys? The two of them were friends growing up but eventually the relationship led to Tywin being made the target of a lot of (perceived and real) insults and embarrasments from Aerys, which he must've hated given his vanity and obsession with image. So maybe Tywin decided he wouldn't get burned like that ever again and didn't become close to anyone else?
I tend to think that this philosophy was the product of a lifetime. Tywin had poor relationships with most of his siblings and all of his children, does not appear to have had friends other than Aerys, and does not appear to have had romantic partners other than Joanna (by which I mean a durable emotional relationship, not people Tywin hired for sex). Like so many things Tywin, I think this ultimately had its basis in his relationship with his father. TWOIAF tells us that Tywin despised Tytos; Kevan tells us that Tywin felt he had a lot to make up for in a speech that is as close as I think we’ll ever get to a Tywin PoV:
“Tywin seems a hard man to you, I know, but he is no harder than he’s had to be. Our own father was gentle and amiable, but so weak his bannermen mocked him in their cups. Some saw fit to defy him openly. Other lords borrowed our gold and never troubled to repay it. At court they japed of toothless lions. Even his mistress stole from him. A woman scarcely one step above a whore, and she helped herself to my mother’s jewels! It fell to Tywin to restore House Lannister to its proper place.”

Tywin seems to have adopted his father as a negative example, convincing him of what strength and power should look like. That image never included love.
However, I also think that the breakdown of his relationship with Aerys would have helped firm up Tywin’s impression that love and friendship are not things to be relied on. As Kevan continues in that speech to Tyrion,
“He bore that heavy burden for twenty years, and all it earned him was a mad king’s envy. Instead of the honor he deserved, he was made to suffer slights beyond count[.]”
So yes, I think that helped to develop Tywin’s theory on love.
