Yes, I remember mentioning the shift in Leifian and Adrian's dynamic! Adrian's expectation is for his son to mirror his own path and eventually succeed him as the Head of the Illusions Coven. Beyond that, he pays Leifian little genuine attention — his interest usually boils down to checking his grades on the Illusions track.

Having grown up in near isolation, Leifian lived in fear of disappointing his only parental figure. His individuality was constantly stifled (like being forbidden to play the flute in his own house or having to hide his freckles under illusion, which Adrian deemed an "imperfection") — but this is mainly apparent when Adrian himself is around.
