(haaated the scene where penelope lashes out at telemachus and tells him she's the true ruler of ithaca. like yeaah let's mischaracterize the main female character of the movie for the sake of performative, off beam pseudo-feminism!! actually the whole film is riddled with performative, safe, feminine rage while simultaneously stripping the female characters of their most interesting moments from the original text. just HOW do you somehow achieve to be more misogynistic than a 3000 years old story??)

edits with superman's "last son" theme fill me with so much emotion ;;^;; once again I'm so thankful for the 2025 movie getting me into superman, and I'm so glad we left behind dark and pessimistic themes for a message of hope. this is making me want to write my novel so bad!!

finally figured out what felt like it was missing from supergirl (2026). supergirl was a good movie that i did enjoy seeing (especially with how messy of a protagonist kara was, which is a rarity in female protagonists!) but i do think it had its weak spots.

superman (2025) shone as a movie because it tied the core conflict/plot (the translated clip of Clark's kryptonian parents) to clark's character arc. clark's story is about him being an immigrant. when other conflicts are brought in (jarhanpur being invaded by boravia) it feels like an extension of clark's character arc. it also felt like that conflict was fully fleshed out.

in supergirl (2026), there's two primary story lines going on: kara's refuge/grief narrative (paired with ruthye's grief narrative) and the brigands having a child sex trafficking ring that specifically preys on young girls. the sex trafficking ring story line ends up taking away from kara and ruthye's individual stories, and it didn't have to. to really drive home the messages about grief and belonging, the girls could have easily come from places or families that have been wiped off the map. instead, it just reduced the brides storyline to a Girl PowerTM moment at the end of it all, instead of giving either storyline a chance to really shine.

supergirl could have been a really good companion movie to superman and vice versa; while clark's film could have had that clear focus on what it's like to be an immigrant with no memory of your homeland, kara's could have focused on what it's like when you have far too many. and while it did touch on that and did have that be a major part of kara's arc, it got bogged down by the other stories and messages the movie was trying to tell.

Supergirl (2026) was 2 movies in one and obviously they didn't have the time to create satisfying arcs for either imo (which sucks because other than that it was a pretty okay movie and I was really excited for it)

Actually no let me change my mind. Worse than that though is they could have made it one movie if only the action/plot points were tied more strongly to the theme and clearly built upon it instead of mostly moving the plot forward. And if we had more time with Kara's past (because let me tell you I had 0 empathy towards the remaining kryptonians when they were basically responsible for what happened to them AND sent Kal-El to Earth to conquer it. And I sure didn't believe in Kara's mom vision of "be kind".)

Lots of things going on actually.

But, yeah. The movie was a 6.5/10 for me (which is a good score! It's above mid!) and I'm mostly frustrated about it not being great when I really want the new DCU to work and make people fall in love with DC, and I really wanted it to be as good as Superman (2025)

Also fuck the womanhaters and snyderbros using the movie's okayness to drag it way more than it deserves

FF7 revelation bingo card (it's silly):

• at the end of it we're gonna play as Aerith going diagonally back in time again and again until she's satisfied with the outcome

• Aerith is gonna be dead for real but she's gonna make some sort of new comeback in the middle so that we think there was a chance

• 2 Clouds????

• the party is gonna help Aerith in the lifestream because some of them died in different realities

• 2 Aeriths???? OG and remake

• Cloud's gonna get his memories from OG back along with his normal memories when Tifa's gonna save his mind

• Sephiroth is gonna fight Sephiroth

• Genesis and Angeal will be there

• the geostigma plot is gonna happen during Revelation when we think everything's lost

• Tifa healing Cloud will allow us to see Aerith's death scene as it really was

• Remake trilogy is just Aerith's dream as the last Cetra while she's in the lifestream

• Remake is the promised land???

• Remake is actually Cloud's dream☝️when he's finally dead and part of the lifestream. As a manifestation of his knowledge, memory, hopes and dreams

• ... and Aerith and Sephiroth are there because those freaks can manipulate the lifestream to an extent

• ... and Cloud's dream can affect reality because of the Jenova cells in his body or something, same way that "Sephiroth" cam back from the dead as a Jenova thingy

• interaction between Sephiroth and Lucrecia

• interaction between Sephiroth and Vincent 👁👁

something something the symbolic of Zack fighting Shinra soldiers with a sword and ending up shot but passing his hopes and dreams to Cloud in the form of the sword when the game is about fighting megacorps and evil tech something something mmmmmm resilience of the human spirit and carrying on even when things get hard because there is good in this world and it's worth fighting for Aerith is probably dead for real in remake and Cloud's gonna have to have the revelation that it's okay, you have to accept loss for the sake of a better tomorrow
