what people underestimate about abusive relationships is how the stress builds slowly, and often before the most overt red flags show themselves or abuse begins, and by then your ability to critically think and judge their actions is impaired by the stress. that isn’t even including how it’s further muddled by contradicting affection or grand gestures.
