hey kiddos I have a shop now
when ur drawing smth real bright n sparkly n joyful but its past 3 am and ur so jaded that it doesnt affect u
she’s beauty she’s grace she’ll punch you in the face
quick announcement that I made an instagram account (lissarts) for my art! this blog has gotten a bit messy so i’ll most likely be posting my newer art on my insta (:
.
art takes hours to produce and seconds to consume so dont act suprised when artists get upset when their posts only get likes and no reblogs
similarly a piece of writing that takes a few minutes to read could have weeks of work behind it… dont take creativity for granted when ur getting it for free
I’M GOING TO TALK ABOUT COLORS!
okay, as a non-art student, this is going to be SUPER unprofessional. but, AS A PROFESSIONAL PAINTING INSTRUCTOR, you’ll probably find it useful? idk, but my partner has recently been expressing their distress in coloring, and thinking that they “just suck” at art. and i’m like no, babe, you just haven’t LEARNED.
whoa there, nice colors you got picked out there! pretty saturated if you ask me, and they don’t really go together. super-saturated colors tend to clash and make your eyes go buggo, so that might be what’s bothering you about your coloring and you just can’t place it! but it’s okay, it should come together in the shading, right?
whoA! WHOA!! BRO. okay, no we gotta learn you something. we all start off inside this box and figure to make a color darker, add black and to make it lighter, add white. but when you do that, it ends up making your colors MUDDY and STANK and it really doesn’t bring them together, especially if you start off with saturated colors like this! let me blow your mind with-
BAM!! check it out! these are the same colors, just shaded completely different! how, though? instead of using purely black and white, i used MORE COLOR. so not only does this shade them, it also brings the colors closer together. shading the red with purple makes it match the purple more, shading the green with blue makes match the purple more, etc, etc! instead of thinking black = darker, think “what color is darker in the rainbow?”
oh, but you don’t really want to shade? ah, yeah, there’s the problem that your colors still clash really bad. here’s what you can do: think of the color between each of them. orange and yellow for green and red, and blue for green and purple. now, mix in a little to each, and then…
BAM. suddenly, they don’t clash! still the same colors, though! just muted a bit not to wig out your eyes.
but see, the problem with super-saturated colors is your art ends up looking like the mspaint color palette, especially if you overuse them. they are very fun, but very difficult to deal with!
sometimes, it’s best to move a little away from the right side of the color slider to get more pastel variants, and use the neon colors more sparingly! besides, you can enrich these duller colors when you go back in for some shading!
try it out! i swear, you’ll love coloring way more when you do.

Sort of follow up from the hair tutorial yesterday, mixing in a bit of this quick tutorial too. Hopefully this is easy enough to understand ^^’ one of those things that can change a lot depending on the animation.

3 Random Pose Generator Websites For Pose Referencing
Basically im just putting together the 3 most useful websites for pose referencing that ive come across over the years because you know, they’re crazy useful and I could be saving someone a lot of time by just putting them all together in one post. Below each description is a picture from the generator described so you know what to expect.
— PoseManiacs. Pretty well known generator thats good for understanding how muscles work and what they look like. They have a timed version and pose library as well in case you want to practice gesture drawings or challenge yourself. Also (and this may not be as well known,) but they have a site with a selection of maneuverable hand poses too. I think they’re beginning to work on adding other body parts, since theres a couple beta body parts as well. You can click on the blue buttons at the top to scale, mirror, and rotate your object.
Quickposes. This website provides you with nude photos (some with or without underwear) out of their library of interesting models and poses. There’s also an option for clothed models as well. Great for figure drawing in general. Timed version and pose library available.
Atarichan Drawer. Provides you with a random framework skeleton that you can rotate to draw at any angle. This is my most recent discovery so im not too familiar with it, but according to the directions, you ctrl+z to undo up to 7 times, space+drag to move around, and space+drag > release the mouse only and click save to set a position. The instructions says that “you move a viewpoint in space+drag and confirm it when balls are piled up,” but im not really sure what that means and havent been able to figure it out yet. To my knowledge, there is no timed version or pose library available.

CALL OUT POST FOR ORISONI/MALEFICARUM
Due to the inconsistencies in style her style, I had suspicions that Ariel might be tracing. Deciding to look further into it, I came across a stock photo that looks remarkably similar to this piece of hers here:
From then on more and more evidence of her having traced many, if not all pieces of her art began to emerge. Not only has she been tracing various stock photos:
She used one of the stock photos to trace a commission for tumblr user @looktothehorizon
She’s also traced non stock photography
T.v screen caps
And different other people’s artwork, one belonging to tumblr user @elvishness and another who I couldn’t find the source for.
Tracing stock photos is one thing, but to trace another artist’s work, whether it be their photography or drawings is completely unacceptable. To do that and also charge money for it is beyond believable. @orisoni if you’re going to go around policing other people, claiming that they’re copying your art and stealing your ideas, maybe you should learn not to do that yourself?
The thing is, I don’t think any of this person’s art is traced. It does look like they referenced or were inspired by all of the pictures you’ve found, but there are pretty obvious differences between their art and the original pictures that would be hard for someone who was tracing to make. Additionally, the bottom two pictures are poses that aren’t exactly rare in the art world.
Referencing photos is an excellent tool for every artist. I once had an art teacher who told me that you should never draw something unless you have a reference to look at. I don’t really believe that’s necessary, but her point was that there is this culture that’s recently arisen online in which referencing pictures reflects badly on someone’s skill. Every time I reference a picture from sight only, I worry that someone is going to come along and do exactly what you’ve done to this artist. Plenty of artists have taken pose or piece inspiration from stock photos or other artists, and I’m curious as to why you’ve chosen to attack this particular artist for something so common.
Accusing this artist of tracing, especially tracing for a commission, is a serious claim that could damage this artist’s reputation needlessly. All you’ve really done is shown that they possibly referenced these pictures. You cannot prove that they traced them (I’m inclined to believe they didn’t) and it’s not really your place to police their references or sic the Internet Mob™ on them for a crime (?) that you’re not even sure that they committed. Finally, whether or not they traced the commission is absolutely none of your business, and is between the artist and the person who commissioned them.
I BET THEY TRACED THAT AMAZING COLORING TOO RIGHT
And I thought fandoms had moved past this… Referencing is not illegal people. Who the hell creates a whole blog (check the op’s archive) just to point this out? Honestly it seems more like either a petty grudge against this one artist, or frankly good old fashioned jealousy.
These kind of posts, seriously, what is your goal? To set the dogs on this girl for maybe (maybe!) referencing poses? (Because I agree with the comments above, it is clearly not tracing.)
You could’ve asked the original artist. (Also, all these poses are so incredibly generic, she could’ve referenced them from basically anywhere.) And what inconsistency with style? There is none.
I mean, you do realise the most famous artists in the history of the world used references? Look it up, in some cases the original references are still preserved (for instance Mucha’s references, photos, are still to be found).
At least the artist can now join a group of pretty great people, who have all been accused of tracing art.
And finally, here’s a professional discussing the absurdity of ‘cheating’ in art.
Yeah seriously. Full disclosure, I use reference for my work all the fucking time. Like, for big, complex pieces? you have to use reference or else you risk getting the proportions all fucked up or some other detail wrong and then it haunts your dreams and waking nightmares like a specter of artistic inadequacy. Joking aside, OP here seems to have some kind of personal agenda that I really don’t subscribe to. Please chill, OP. The vaunted ideal of ‘pure originality’ is absurd and so is the supposition that artistic ability develops independently of applied skill and practice.
DAMN STRAIGHT. Fuck me, referencing isn’t cheating. How the fuck are you meant to know how to draw shit if you don’t know what it looks like? Digital art has made this shit so bad. At art school you’re condemned if you DON’T use a reference yet online everyone’s stigmatising it and hurting beginning artists. They get bullied out of continuing with their passion because non-artists who have limited understanding spread misinformation and harmful shit like this.
i’ll never ever understand the weird stigma against using references for art, it seems to ONLY exist in online art consumer culture. disney has been using hardcore referencing from images and recorded videos of actors for their animation for decades, and no one seems to feel the need to “call them out on it”. jesus. studios have been using ROTOSCOPING (literally DRAWING OVER RECORDED VIDEO FOR CHARACTER MOVEMENT) for animated films since animation STARTED. Its ONLY EVER people who are NOT FUCKING ARTISTS that do this callout bullshit, and its easy to tell because damn they dont seem to know shit all about what it actually takes to BE an artist.
so, yeah, this person has heavily referenced stock photos, and THAT’S OKAY. THAT’S WHAT STOCK PHOTOS ARE FUCKING FOR. As for the art that was heavily referenced from other artists’ work, there’s nothing wrong with that either??? you know absolutely NO POSE is “original” or “belongs” to an artist??? the poses referenced from other artists here aren’t exactly the most original to begin with, either.
frankly, if i find someone has made a piece of artwork who’s pose is directly based on one that i’ve done, it might surprise me at first but god damn it i’m not going to be OFFENDED, like HOW DARE they steal that pose from me, because MOST LIKELY that pose was either referenced by me from something else or i subconciously remembered that exact pose from something else I saw in my travels as an artist constantly visually memorizing everything around me that inspires me. Either way, its referenced. Doing it by visual cue or doing it by memory are no different from eachother; one is not “better” or “more legitimate” than the other, so fuck off with that.
i just wish artists didnt have to be so fucking afraid to ADMIT that they used reference otherwise people will yell “CHEATER!!” and think that they don’t actually have skill or something stupid because you know it totally doesnt take skill to look at something and use it as reference to render something TOTALLY DIFFERENT with the same likeness, right? either way you spin it, the characters depicted are vastly different from the people in the original photos and that had to be drawn, and it was drawn (and colored??!) very well. “Tracing” or no, someone who is not a good artist wouldn’t be able to add those things.
the great thing is, artists who use references do EVENTALLY learn to break off from having to use them all the time, and start to be able to do stuff from pure memory. but that takes FUCKING YEARS to be able to do (and its still not absolutely 100% reliable, sometimes references for tricky anatomy/posing is STILL NEEDED), and that is something only VERY HIGH LEVEL ARTISTS can do. Do NOT immediately hold every artist posting their work on the net to those standards, its completely fucking unrealistic. let them get there on their own. And even if they don’t, its still none of your fucking business, OP.
Nice job being an absolute fucking pissbaby coward and making a seperate blog for this callout post btw OP, because I bet you KNEW that exactly this would happen; NO ONE is jiving with your petty witchhunting mob mentality horseshit. This shit is so tired out and cringey. I hope you’re embarassed with yourself for doing this for eternity so that maybe it will make you cringe a bit when you remember it, that way you might learn to be a decent fucking human.
