To: My Blog mini stories on Disney

Disney is a very large company and a hard topic to approach. I like Disney movies but only the musical style movies. I know that sounds bizarre but I like Disney’s Tangled, Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. Yet movies like Bambi or Bolt are just OK movies. It not like the story lines are bad or anything but I think Disney does better with musical animation than any other animation studio thus far. When it comes to movies that are not musicals I would rather watch a Pixar movie.

To: My Blog wishes for skills......

I would love to master blender so I could actually create 3D models or make 3D movies. However my attempts at 3D modeling has been less then successful and I am truly in awe of the individuals with the patience to master this art.

To: My Blog mini stories Blue Sky...........

In my opinion this studio is like the new kid on the block. They don't have a long history of animated movies like Pixar and DreamWorks but they did make Ice Age and Epic. Both are amusing stories especially Ice Age my mother adores that series and has all of the movies.

To: My Blog my life......

I suppose like anything my parents or rather my father was what got me involved with animation. It started off as stories as a small child and then he got involved with a video game project as a programmer which in turn made him buy an Atari with Mario and Donkey Kong arcade game. I became obsessed with beating that game, to the point that I learned all of the animation cues for the characters. Still I was always an artistic child but my father always wanted someone to follow in his footsteps and go into computer programming. Thus in high school trying to figure out my future I figured I would find an industry that gave me both the beauty of art and unlimited potential of computers. So here I am with Animation as my answer to a career. However Animation is simply the practical to the childhood dream of having my personal stories come to life.

To: My Blog the players in Animation..........

The Obvious, Disney is the first thing that any child is exposed to in the form of a movie. I remember skipping over a scene in Bambi where the mother gets shot, I also remember the evil queen scared me in Snow White. My childhood followed Disney until about 2nd grade where My Aunt exposed me to Japanese animated movies like My Neighbor Totoro, The Cat Returns and a few others. Studio Ghibli with Director Hayao Miyazaki is what got me interested in Anime, Japanese Animation and the geek culture of Japan.  Another Animation studio that dominated my childhood would be Pixar with Toy Story. It isn't until I was older that I realized that Disney is the owner of Pixar and a distributor for Studio Ghibli.

 Another company that rivals Disney is Universal when it comes to movies. They have subsidiary company Illumination Entertainment producers of Despicable Me. While Universal can’t really compete in the Animation industry as well as Disney. Despicable Me may become a platform for the Company to gain a bigger piece of the Animation industry.

Our final player for Animation is 20th Century Fox which may sound a bit odd. But remember Fox came out with Avatar and are a distributor for Blue Sky Studios which produced Epic and Ice Age.  

DreamWorks is an independent Animation studio since 2008. However unlike the other Animation studios DreamWorks has been moving from company to company for a while now. Despite changing hands so much DreamWorks is actually a strong Animation studio. Yet for some reason many people see DreamWorks as a copycat of Pixar, which doesn't really help their image much. Since DreamWorks has gone independent it is difficult to say how their future will be when competing against the monster companies of Disney, Universal and Fox.

Animation, a mysterious force that has somehow snuck its way into my life without my realization.  I have never really thought about what my obsession was in life until I realized I spend most of my time watching animated movies and playing video games. Thus I thought that using a blog to organize my thoughts on Animation would be useful.

To: My Blog video games......

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom is my ALL time favorite video game and animated story line ever. The video game designer chose a really unique style for the cut scenes for this game. Another thing you would notice with this game is that the cut scenes and the in game graphics are pretty similar. In the past many games showed high end graphics for cut scenes only to have poor in game graphics which really annoys me. Recently games have started to follow Sony's final fantasy style where they try to get cut scene and in game graphics as close as possible.

To : My Blog mini stories Illumination Entertainment....

This is a dark horse for animation. The reason being is that most people don't realize some of the movies that belong to this group. I thought Despicable Me was created by Pixar or DreamWorks but who would have thought it was Illumination a subsidiary of Universal pictures.

DreamWorks is an interesting company to say the least. Many people often call dream works copy cats of Pixar and Disney but honestly I think they are quite original in there reinterpretation of a classic fairy tale with Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon has become a TV show.

To: My Blog mini stories on pixar.....

Ah Pixar bringing awesome movies like Toy Story and Brave. Also you have to love character from movies like Wall E and UP!. Pixar is just amazing when it comes to movies but I am sad to say that with Steve Jobs death will Pixar still be the same? I don't know only time will tell but for now definitely watch Inside Pixar by Bloomberg. They talk to John Lasseter who you may know from the intro to many of Miyazaki films.

To: My Blog mini stories on Studio Ghibli.......

The first animated movie that I fell in love with was Studio Ghibli’s My Neighbor Totoro. It is a sweet story about two young girls moving to a new area and finding a mysterious creature in the woods and having a magical adventure. Following this was Castle in the Sky, Howl’s Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke (all of which are directed by Hayao Miyazaki). It makes me really sad to hear Hayao Miyazaki is retiring and handing over his company to his son Goro Miyazaki. While I don’t have a lot of faith in his ability to do feature films. His TV series work is quite impressive for someone who worked in landscaping before moving to animation. Still to hear about the final film of Hayao The Wind Rises is still very sad for me. He was a director I really admired for a long time.
