actually going nuts thinking about sam (butler) and evan (kelmp) again because what the hell
she was the first one to say hi to him. she exorcised his demons. she was intent on being his friend, on supporting him, on looking out for him no matter what. this weird fucking kid with haunted eyes and terrible social skills (i say with love).
and evan always looked at her like she was the SUN incarnate. the best wizard in the world. the smartest, most capable wizard in the world. when she doesn't see herself that way at all.
sam's best stat being her charm, whereas she struggled with brains. evan's best stat being his brains, whereas he struggled with charm. they complete one another. they lean on one another. they are two puzzle pieces who fit perfectly together. and just that in itself would be poetic, but then in mismag s2? when they can choose a new stat to focus on... and they both pick the other's best, previously their own worst? because they were inspired by each other; because sam helped evan be more comfortable in his skin, and evan helped sam be more confident in her intelligence. they grow together. they grow because of their relationship.
and the fact that they weren't 'meant' to be love interests makes it even better. because there was no awkwardness, no avoiding things that might be perceived as 'romantic' because, after all, they're friends. they love each other! they're allowed to carry each other bridal-style, constantly say 'i love you,' and suggest living together!! when mismag 2 was airing i messaged my friend about them and i said (and i quote) "they really love each other so much and so loudly that they one day accidentally crossed the boundary into romantic love and they barely noticed." friends to lovers done RIGHT.
i know we don't have many options of pc/pc ships in d20 so this might not be saying much, but they really are the best one. their story is so beautiful that sometimes i forget it's the result of a bunch of improvised moments. ily evsam you are the cutest ever <333
