Spirit furiously wiped her tears when the boy tapped her shoulder. “Oh, I’m sorry, I didn’t…I didn’t mean to c-cry…I’m…I’m sorry…” Then, she just bit her tongue to keep her stupid mouth shut, and gratefully accepted the wine from his hand, sipping to keep herself occupied. “It’s just…it’s a rough time for me. I didn’t mean to spoil your fun.” She smiled, sadly.

As she took the wine and sipped, Liam gave her a smile back, and shook his head. "No need to apologize, man." Liam laughed. "Nah, I wasn't have that much fun. Honestly, I think I was making an ass out of myself more." He paused, letting a silence fall, and then spoke again. "I don't think I completely understand the rough time but...I think I know how you're feeling at least." Liam glanced back at the girl, her eyes less watery now. "I'm Liam. Nice to meet you." He extended out a hand, hoping she would shake back.

Bitter Tears | OPEN TO GROUP SEVEN

Spirit hung around the edge of the part while everybody else danced, ate, talked and laughed, just sipping on a glass of wine. She felt cold, and empty, even though the fire was blazing and she was warm in her sweater and skinny jeans. It was that aching feeling, like someone had grabbed her heart in their fist and squeezed. It had come on and off since Skyler’s death.

Christmas was normally a big holiday at the Alexander household, and she felt more than a little guilty abandoning them. It was already going to be hard without Skyler, her presents for everyone wrapped and slid under the tree, her silly decorations littering the house. It would be hard to swallow for everyone as it was, and she had just hopped on a bus and left with only a note. A minimal note, saying she needed to sort things out. She felt awful about it now.

As another upbeat Christmas song blasted on the speakers up front, Spirit began crying softly. Bitter tears. She was so upset with herself, and she couldn’t help it. She didn’t want to cry in public, but there was no stopping it now…

Before going to the party, Liam had managed to send a quick letter and some souvenir Euros to his abuela and abuelo back home in Manhattan. He was filled with cheerful glee, and hoped that the letter got sent to him in time. He had also sent off a quick text to Shiloh saying a early Merry Christmas, and soon zoomed off to the party, wearing a cardigan with a shirt under it, jeans that looked slightly ripped, and casual shoes.

There was dancing and lights shining everywhere, and Liam even managed to catch a glimpse of the those lights people have mentioned before. He attempted to join in a few dances, and much to his embarrassment, he couldn't keep up with some people. Some of their dances preferred the person they came with, and he shrugged it off. Liam got it, this holday was meant to be shared with someone special, and he sighed, wishing Shiloh was here again.

Liam snagged two glasses of wine, and moved towards a corner of the room when he saw someone by the edge of the party, looking lonely. He smiled and approached them, only to see that she was crying. Liam slowly made his way to the side of her, and leaned back, using a foot to keep himself up. Liam tapped her on the shoulder calmly, and asked, "Do you want a drink?"

I can’t last a few minutes in the cold without feeling like I’ll freeze to death.
