It is September 2025, if you still have "black magic" and "white magic" in your vocabulary I'm automatically blocking.
There’s certain hobbies and interests that aren’t inherently conservative or regressive but do attract a lot of people who are those things or worse and when you’re a progressive person involved in those hobbies hearing that someone else is interested in your hobby usually has to involve some “But are you normal about it?” conversations before you get too excited
Someone: I think the Vikings are really cool. I like Viking metal and stuff like that.
Me: *threateningly holds up plastic fork* Answer me quickly. Do you have normal opinions about immigrants?
This exact thing translates to witchcraft, too. And also specifically the vikings and Celtic culture. There are certain symbols so important and innate to the practice that are now just neo-nazi dogwhistles, and I can't be excited when I see that someone has an interest in my kind of craft because it's now far more likely that they see the hammer of Thor or Tyr's rune as something they and they alone get to have and its impossible for them to not be so fucking unnormal about things.

Witchcraft Doesn’t Owe You Proof
Not everything sacred needs to be converted into data or monetized into results. Fantasy isn’t “lesser.” Symbolism doesn’t have to justify itself to capitalism. Internal experiences are valid experiences. And imagination? It is a power. It doesn’t need a paycheck, a testimonial, or a TikTok manifestation glow-up to matter.
Witchcraft—at its core—is liminal. It lives in the in-between, in dreams, in play, in the mythic, in the symbolic. Yes, it can be practical and results-based. But it also can be deeply indulgent, internal, aesthetic, irrational, beautifully useless in the utilitarian sense. That’s not weakness. That’s art. That’s freedom.
The Burden of Legitimization
When witches today feel the need to constantly prove that their craft works in the "real world"—it’s a form of protective posturing. Centuries of persecution, accusations, and erasure led to an underlying anxiety: “If I don’t produce, they’ll call me a fraud. If I don’t fix something, they’ll call me evil. If I indulge in fantasy, they’ll call me insane.”
That anxiety is real. It’s collective trauma. But bending to it doesn’t liberate anyone. It just hands your practice over to the same structures that once condemned it.
You Know What’s Revolutionary?
Saying: “My witchcraft isn’t for you.” “My fantasy isn’t meant to fix the world.” “My symbols don’t need to be literal to be real or meaningful or useful to me.” “This practice is sacred because I feel it, not because it ‘works’ on reality.”
That is radical honesty. That is witchcraft with backbone. And that’s where I'm standing.
But Not Me. Not Us.
I’m a black-garbed warlock with a demon wolf at my side. I have skeletons and sigils and a pendulum that doesn’t need to predict anything to feel sacred. I make charms not for productivity, but for companionship. I speak to spirits, not to control them, but to coexist.
This isn’t about usefulness. This isn’t about outcomes. This is about presence. Power. Permission to imagine. Because that, more than any dollar or spell, is what the world fears:
A woman who doesn’t need to explain her inner world to anyone.
To Those Still in the Shadows:
If you’ve ever felt that your magic was “not enough” because it was too symbolic, too dark, too strange, too aesthetic, too rooted in fantasy— Let me say this with fire:
You do not owe this world results. Your path does not require proof. Your magic is not a pitch deck.
You are not broken for indulging in something that doesn’t “serve a purpose.” You are not immature for finding love in the mythical. You are not failing if your witchcraft doesn’t fix the world’s wounds.
Sometimes witchcraft is not about fixing. It’s about feeling. It’s about facing. It’s about fcking existing as you are, wild and untamed and unquantifiable.
My Magic Is Not For Sale
So to the algorithms, the moral panics, the critics, the capitalist covens, the skeptics, the sanitized influencers, and every fake “demonologist” who ever tried to leash the strange:
You don’t belong in my pit. My witchcraft will remain indulgent. Symbolic. Unapologetically dark. Unmeasurable. And mine.
I didn't realize this needed to be said, but uhh
If you are a Nazi, you have no place in paganism.
(Or anywhere, actually 🙂)
And to clarify (since ya'll need that, apparently), that includes people who are transphobic, homophobic, pro-eugenics (i.e. social darwinism anti-vaxxer people), anti-immigrant, racist, etc.
Ya'll don't belong here, paganism is not a safe place for you, and I don't want you interacting with my blog.

Oh no. What's wrong with Silver Ravenwolf? I feel like I see them recommended everywhere...
Yeeeeaaaah, it's an ongoing problem. Her books were wildly popular for over a decade and they're were widely marketed as THE Book To Have for beginner witches by Llewellyn, which was the heaviest of the heavy hitters in occult literature at the time.
The problem with Silver Ravenwolf is largely that she is wildly out of touch in a very New Age White Woman kind of way. Her books tout loads of misinformation, appropriation, and historical revisionism that are simply not acceptable (i.e. claiming victims of witch trials were actual pagan witches, citing a fictional ancient matriarchal goddess religion that never existed was the basis for Wicca, leaning into the hereditary superpowers / indigo child / starseed narrative, etc). Besides which, the theories she posits contradict each other from page to page and chapter to chapter, claims a Gardnerian lineage which can’t possibly exist, and trumpets Buckland’s personal theories on the Burning Times and interpretation of the Threefold Law as if they were fact.
And thanks to her runaway popularity, those of us who instruct and answer questions from newer witches have to UNTEACH all of this nonsense.
If it were simply a matter of being a product of her time, I could forgive some of the nonsense. But she’s still selling mammy dolls on her website, though she labels them as “primitive” and equates them to “positive voodoo dolls.” Yes, she's been confronted about this, and yes she doubled down. I don’t think I need to explain how gross and racist this is on SEVERAL levels. She's been given opportunities to show growth and self-work with regards to her work and simply refuses to believe that she was ever wrong about anything.
So, her books aren't entirely worthless by any means, but they require a LOT of critical reading and a strong understanding of actual history and science. Furthermore, she leans rather hard into a borderline cult mentality that boils down to, "Nobody understands you, but because you're drawn to witchcraft, you're SPECIAL, probably because of some ancient hereditary superpower, so don't worry - Mama Silver understands you. Also, there's no need to read further into anything, just take my word for it."
I would not recommend them for beginners, which is a problem because that's exactly the demographic her work is marketed toward. (Personally, I would not recommend them for anybody, but that's just my opinion.)

Trae Dorn (@traegorn) of BS-Free Witchcraft expands on the topic in this video. They've been wrestling with this issue for YEARS within the Wiccan and wider witchcraft communities and I'm sure they could cite examples I've missed.

Good afternoon Crow! Do you have any favorite witch blogs on here that you’d recommend for resources or learning a thing or two?
I sure do!
@windvexer and @lailoken are both great at answering questions, and you can learn a lot by reading their replies even if you don't have specific questions of your own at the moment.
@elminx writes in-depth posts on astrology and planetary magic, but is also a great resource for plant and kitchen magic.
@aesethewitch also posts a lot of informational stuff, as does @breelandwalker who also gets into a lot of history.
If you're interested in blogs like mine that aren't really specifically teaching blogs, but who post interesting stuff that you can learn from anyway, @upthewitchypunx @rosecoloredtarot @stagkingswife @madmonksandmaenads @brujarojaderio @lazywitchling @the-weaving-cryptid @msgraveyarddirt/@graveyarddirt @l-u-c-i-i-e are all worth a follow!
Not a witch blog, but for general occult history @cryptotheism is also a great resource.

Damn! That's so thorough that calling it thorough feels like an insult. Would love to translate it to Portuguese some day
Applying Knowledge:
Salt makes ice turn colder which is helpful for making old-school ice cream and keeping drinks cold but it also has the ability to be used in Freezing Spells. Salt is the Good Soldier and does what you tell it, so it can be used for baneful and beneficial rites. Bind an enemy with an ice cube to freeze them and salt to intensify the freezing and nullify the shit they try to send.
Anything can be taken and rotted to metaphorically rot that item in the person's life. Another idea is to bind a curse, hex, illness or issue to a degradable item and let it rot, as it rots - the problem shall rot away as well.
Prior to drawing your circle down with chalk, sit for a brief minute with the chalk in your right (or projective) hand and focus on the energy infusing with the chalk. Bolster this by praying as you draw the circle, pushing the energy through the chalk and anchoring it into the plane by the line it leaves.

Body sigils:
Body sigils can be powerful tools in your arsenal as they can be very effective ways of using sigils. A body sigil is any sigil that has been either tattooed, or drawn upon the body. The placement of the sigil allows it to work with you on a very personal level pretty much becoming integrated into your life as it exists upon your skin. This connection can be used to facilitate its effectiveness in your life.
Mostly all body sigils are passive sigils, and will release their kna over time, while they are connected to your body. Though you can go through the process of placing a sigil upon your body that will be activated actively through its eventual removement after performing some charging process. In order to actively activate it you would have to go through the process of destroying, and removing it from your skin by washing away what you drew the sigil with, or by interrupting the natural design of the sigil by crossing it out. By placing a sigil trigger on a body sigil one will be able to activated once it has built up kna, and is ready to release that kna at a specific point. This is a very dynamic way in order for you to store kna in specific intentions upon your skin until you are ready to release them. Sigil triggers like saying a specific word, or tapping upon that sigil you would like to activate will allow it to start releasing its kna, and this process could be used in any situation where you would need some extra help from that intention.
Any form of written sigil can be placed upon your body, but you would most likely want that sigil to be for something that would be able to help you in your personal life, or in the environments in which you frequent. It would also be a good idea to make sure it is a beneficial sigil for the body that it is placed upon. Sigil with negative intentions should not be placed upon the skin unless you are looking to curse the one that it is placed upon. Sigil placement upon the body can also be very beneficial depending upon where you decide the place the sigil. Every single body part has its own metaphysical properties that can be used in order to give more kna to the sigil and provided with different meaning. Below is a list of different body parts and their metaphysical properties that could help influence the intention of your sigil:
Head: Knowledge, creativity, confidence, spirituality Neck: Balance, Communication, self-expression Shoulder : Strength, determination Arm: Strength, protection, justice, success Hand: Action Chest: Emotions, Love, Self-esteem Stomach: kna, Power Back: Strength Hip: Love, Sexuality Leg: Movement, stability Foot: Grounding, stability, security, survival
Placement can be a very important part of placing a sigil upon your body, and working sigil magick effectively. Though it does depend on what type of outcome you are trying to manifest from your sigil magick working and how you can best use your body to maximize your effectiveness.
Sigil placement is a very important understanding in the effective use of body sigils. Allowing the sigil to even be in a visible spot upon your body, or a non-visible spot would allow the sigil to interact with the environment and your state of being in different ways. Allowing people to interact with the sigil in a visible spot upon your body would allow others to give your sigil kna. This would allow the sigil to charge off of their interaction allowing it to work better for you. You would also be able to charge it through your interaction with it, and by recognizing its presents on your body, so allowing you to be able to see it also on your body could also give it the kna that it needs, while also reminding you of your intentions. Most often these sigil are simply charged through the act of being seen, or simply through the act of using a person’s personal kna to emkna the sigil.
