Unrequited Love
This feeling scares me. It makes me want to do something I know I won't be proud of or regret in the end. But I shouldn't do it no matter what because it won't do no good. I knew they didnât love me yet I let myself fall harder and harder. I knew who they were in love with yet I convinced myself that they would be the one for me. I made myself be the person they wanted and close to the person they loved, but nothing worked.Â
I shouldnât have told them. It only made this feeling inside of me worse.Â
The feeling of all my walls crumbling into a million pieces. Of my throat swelling as I tried to talk while choking on tears that have yet to fall. My body began to shake from the fear of losing them from my life completely.Â
Outside the Window
The sky was filled with the shades of purple, pink, orange and red as the sun settled into the mountains. There was a wind that made the tree leaves sway and fall. The wind was warm making it a perfect time to be outside. You could hear as children laughed while they played outside and smelled as their father grilled. Their mothers would soon tell them to go inside and wash up for their family dinner. After eating they may go inside and play a board game or watch a movie to end the night.Â
Outside the window there is a family enjoying eachothers company on a perfect summer day.Â
Inside the window is a home that isn't a home. A place where people eat and sleep. A place where a mother and father are arguing over something the other has said or done inside their bedroom. In another room there are two children hearing it all pretending not to. One is playing on their DS and the other is playing with their dolls. The TVs volume is high.Â
The arguing stops. The TV is lowered, the DS is turned off, and the dolls are put down. There are four people in the room. Soon there's only one.Â
A father left alone, in a home he never wanted, in a place filled with false promises and hopes. A house he grew to resent and broke him into pieces.
I am so sorry Dad.
Some Place New
As I walked down the streets in the city that brought me so many memories of a time where I was young, I felt empty. I didnât belong here anymore, I didnât belong anywhere. Deciding it was best to go home I turned around and went my way. I hurriedly walked into the place I've known as home for the past 19 years and backed a bag. I quickly wrote a note to those that may actually care, walked to my car, and drove.Â
I donât remember how long I had been driving. I just knew that I now needed to put gas. I pulled over to the nearest gas station and did what I needed then got back on the road. This had to last, I only had 100 more dollars and I still donât know where Iâm gonna end up.Â
The sun was rising and I hadn't stopped driving. I needed to pee and eat something, perfect a restaurant Iâve never heard of. I parked and walked to the door.Â
âMay I use the restroom?â
âAs long as you donât make a mess should be fine.â
âUhh. thank you..?â
âNo problem.â
I went and did my business before walking out. âCan I sit anywhere?â
âYes darling, Iâll be right with you. There should be a menu on the table already.âÂ
As I look around at the small city Iâve ended up in, I want to read each person and give them each a story that Iâll never really know.Â
âWhat can I get you honey?â she startled me and I jumped in my seat. âWell come on now you have no reason to be scared, I donât bite.â
âSorry, I was just lost in my thoughts. Can I just get bacon and eggs with sourdough, oh and a coffee.â she scribbled with her pen âComing right outâ.Â
I went back to looking out the window for a couple minutes and the waitress placed down my food. âHere you go sweetie, enjoy.â âThank you.âÂ
I caught up in my mind that I hadnât noticed that the place started to fill up. There was now an ederly couple, a group of girls and a group of boys. I ignored how loud and obvious the girls were being over the boys and continued to eat.Â
Before I could leave the waitress from earlier stopped me. âHoney, you look lost, do you need some help?â I looked at her with wide eyes. âNo thank you maâam, Iâm doing just fine.â She looked at me closely. âNo you're not, why donât you stay a little longer, I get off of work in an hour then we can talk.â She pushed towards the table I was sitting at.
For some reason I didn't. I didnât try to disagree with her and listened. Once she clocked out she came to sit with me and we talked for a while.Â
âNow, where are you from?'' she looked at me as she poured coffee for the both of us. âC/Nâ
âThatâs quite a ways from here, how long have you been driving.â I don't remember how long exactly, I don't even know what time it is. âI think since 11 oâclock last night.â she just looked at me âDo you know what city you're in?â I shook my head no,Â
She sipped her coffee for the first time and I dared not to speak. The silence stayed for a while longer, before she asked âDo you need a job or a place to stay.â I looked at her confusingly and her face didnât falter.Â
âI donât plan on being her much longer, I was just stopping for some food.âÂ
âIf that was really the case you wouldnât have listened to me when i said to stay.â she started to stand and I was beginning to look confused âLetâs go home so you can sleep, we have work tomorrow.âÂ
I was puzzled as she kept walking and once she reached the door she looked back at me âWell come on now your driving I took the bus hereâ I followed her and for some reason I let her get into my car, I let her tell me the directions of her home, I let myself get my bag and walk into her house.Â
âThis will be your room, that's your uniform and the showers down the hall, you're welcome to anything and Iâll wake you up in the morning, good night honey.âÂ
I sat there a little baffled and decided to shower, once I got out I noticed her bedroom light was off and I could hear soft breathing. I went back to what was now my room and laid there for a while. I left the window open and could hear the wind blowing, it was cool. The moon was big and bright. My surroundings made me feel calm. Maybe I will stay here was my last thought as I drifted to sleep.Â
