Work had mercifully given Gardy a three-day weekend, and after days of running around cities, bumping into people, and eating exhaust fumes, he wanted nothing more than a trip to the countryside, somewhere far, far away from any cars and crowds. Thankfully, he had a little map saved on his phone of a tiny town a few hundred miles away, and since it had been close to a year since his first time out there, today was just as good as any for a little visit. His memory and the map were both accurate, and after a long teleport, he arrived on the dirt road outside the village, and casually strolled into town, trying to see if there were any familiar Lucario on the horizon. Softly, he called out, “Ayo, yo, anyone home?”
“Hallo!” Guan Yu looked up and waved from where he was helping... several younger Lucario train.
Much has changed in a year. The ruined town is much smaller, but much less ruined than it was before. The crumbling castle that had been almost lost back in the trees now stood tall again, there are actual fields instead of just some gardens... and there are over twice as many Lucario and Riolu as there used to be, nearly five hundred of them all told.
