another point I really need to make is that as much as this conversation is focussing on (men’s) doubles tennis specifically, it very much pertains to conversations around many other forms of tennis.

it’s relevant to the way people talk about women’s tennis, both singles and doubles; to the way people talk about mixed doubles; wheelchair and quad wheelchair tennis; to blind and low vision tennis; to parastanding tennis.

as tennis grows in popularity, no form of tennis should be shrinking. as more and more resources are poured into the sport, that should directly translate to the growth of ALL FORMS OF TENNIS. instead, the tours, the suits, some players, some fans- seem to think men’s singles should cannibalise every other tour before being consumed by profitmad investors itself.

the world they’re envisioning is a death sentence for the sport and it’s heartbreaking to see people buy into it uncritically.

personally i can’t understand loving tennis and not loving all forms of it. it makes me so incredibly happy that there’s so many ways tennis has been adapted to various needs and preferences. it’s so fucking cool that this sport i love can be played by so many different people
