“Oh, no, no, no, Little Longbottom,” Leah responded teasingly, “As a Ravenclaw, you don’t cheer for Gryffindor. They’re cocky enough without our help,” she laughed and pushed her hair out of her face, “The only time you should cheer for the Lions is during the Gryffindor/Slytherin game… though honestly I very rarely end up cheering for them then as well. Besides, and don’t tell anyone I said this, I think that Gryffindor has been our hardest competition in the past. We don’t want them to win.”

Emlyn gave a small shrug, “I guess on the basis of the fact that my dad isn’t a student anymore, I’d usually prefer anyone but Gryffindor to win. Especially since my brother and sister are actually on their house teams.” she pointed out, “So I definitely cheer for Slytherin when it’s Slytherin and Gryffindor.”

“I can’t say that I’m very happy with the results of the Quidditch game,” Leah responded with a shy, shaking her head in disappointment. Still, she felt optimistic, “I had so hoped that Hufflepuff would get the snitch. I always hate to see the Lions win.“

“I don’t really follow it much, but I guess it would have been nice for Hufflepuff to have won, since that’s my sister’s house. Then again, my dad was a Gryffindor. I guess it’s hard to care too much one way or the other when you’ve got family from each house.” she said with a small shrug.

“I studied harder for that one than all my other exams combined, and I still barely managed to scrape an EE. But you’re amazing, honestly.” Isaiah shrugged, sighing slightly. He had quickly grabbed his small list from his pocket to scan it over, making sure he hadn’t forgotten anything else while he was still there. Sure enough books on mushrooms were at the very top of his list. “Thanks Em.” He nodded, quickly shoving the note back into his pocket and paying for the books. “Now let’s go get some candy.”

“But you still got the EE, you know that means Exceeds Expectations, right?” she teased lightly as he pulled out a list to look over before paying for the books. “I never mind helping you or Angelica out with something.” she added with a small shrug before grinning over at him at the mention of candy. “You know, I really don’t think the wizarding candy will ever get old for me. It’s been six years and it’s still amazing.”

Roxanne was browsing through the shops and found herself looking for some helpful books for her to get out of school and still find a purpose for herself. She saw Emlyn and knew she’d be the person to go to for any help in here. “Em! Yeah actually, do you think there’s any books in here about running a business? I’m hoping to take over my dad’s shop one day,” she lied. Well not really, but no one needed to know she planned to leave to help sooner than expected of her.

Emlyn smiled at the other girl, “Yeah! Actually, I think there were some books kind of like that just over in that corner.” she said, gesturing in the direction she meant. “There’s probably some really good muggle ones too, if you could get to a muggle shop?” she added after a moment. “I’ve never been ... all that into the kind of things your dad sells, but it’s definitely interesting. He must be really smart to have come up with all of that.”

“Mine too! I always had to have one of my parents open them for me when I was younger because the frog always got away from me,” they chuckled. “I’d tell you you can tell me if you found anything good, but I’m honestly not much of a reader.”

“I screamed the first time I saw one jump.” she admitted, “But also, I was nine, and my parents had only just taken me in.” she explained with a grin and a shrug, “I understand that, most people aren’t really as much of a reader as I am. I always loved it though, there’s so much to learn, and then with fiction you have whole different worlds to explore. Honestly, all of this felt like a really great book when I first discovered it.”

“I just need something on bursting mushrooms, I swear I don’t know how I ever passed that OWL, I’m absolute rubbish.” He sighed, shaking his head. “If you saw anything you could just grab quickly that would be awesome, if not I’ll just have to suck it up and beg Dad to explain it again.” He said, looking over at her. “Any of the seventh year plants you do know I’d honestly appreciate anything you could tell me, you still probably know twice what I do.”

Emlyn nodded quickly, “You passed the owl because you know more about it then you think you do.” she said, “But I know where a few books on that are, I’ll go grab one for you and be right back. And I can definitely help you with what I know there, study session later?” she offered before heading over to the herbology books and picking up one that referenced what Isaiah needed before heading back to the counter. “Here, this should be good.” she said, adding it to hr stack of books.

“Glad to hear it.” Isaiah grinned slightly, plopping the books down on the counter as he took out his money to pay for her. “Dad! That’s what I forgot.” He said quickly, smacking himself on the forehead before quickly changing his demeanor after realizing what he said. “I was supposed to pick up a book for Herbology. I’m so lost it would be embarrassing even if Dad wasn’t the Professor.”

“Do you remember what book it was?” she asked, “I can go and grab it for you if you do, I was looking at the Herbology books earlier.” she explained, “I might be able to help a little bit too? I know I’m a couple of years behind you, but it is one of my best subjects.” she added with a small shrug. For her, it went well along with her potions studies, and she had made a point of learning as much as she could from their father.

“Of course there is,” they replied with a grin. They rummaged in the bag for a second and held out a couple of chocolate wands and a chocolate frog. “Are these good?”

“They’re my favorite!” she exclamed happily, “ I mean, it took me a while to get used to the fact that they moved, but they’re really good.” she added as she took the frog from them, “Thank you! I’d offer to share too but ... I’ve really only been to the bookstore so far.”

Emlyn took in a sharp breath as she saw what the note that had been slipped into her bag said. She could almost feel the panic fighting it’s way back through from the back of her mind, but the potion she had taken that morning was still holding it off. And that was exactly why no one could ever know. They would stop her, she knew they would, but she needed these potions. They were the only thing that let her be functional, that let her feel like a normal teenage girl and not just the pathetic messed up baby Longbottom. It gave her a control of her life that she had never actually had, and she was desperate to not lose it. She was going to have to go along with whatever it was this X person wanted.

Isaiah grinned slightly, he’d been prepared to grab the books and make a beeline for the register but she seemed so at ease recently it was really nice to see. “Well ignore that voice because you’re right, and I wouldn’t let you pay even if you tried to insist anyway.” He said, chuckling. Isaiah looked over at her as they walked in the direction of the register, nodding. “Both good suggestions. Should we hit up Honeydukes and eat our weight in candy?”

Emlyn gave a small shrug, “I guess I’ve finally figured that out.” she said, thinking that truthfully one of the best parts about the potions was that even when she was trying to cover for herself about it, she couldn’t get too worried. “That sounds like a perfect idea ... as long as dad isn’t near that direction to stop us.”

“As if there’s a person in the world who knows you better than me.” He chuckled lightly, shaking his head a bit with a small smile. “But decide quickly and then give me the pile, I’ll buy them.” He said, reaching out for the stack quickly. “How about while I go pay, you decide something to do that isn’t super boring.”

Emlyn grinned, “There’s a voice somewhere in the back of my mind saying I should insist on paying.” she began, knowing it was the one she had silenced with the calming potions, the one insisting that she was being a burden, that Isaiah would regret this, “But ... what are brother’s for if you can’t let them pay for your stuff sometimes.” she finished with a small shrug, moving to stand beside him anyway. She might not be nervous and needing him beside her, but following him was still more interesting then just staying here. “What about Honeydukes? Or the Three Broomsticks?”

“I’ll let you know.” If he could figure out the title of the book he wanted without being obvious he’d definitely ask her. “Hours? You don’t think you’ve spent enough time browsing through books yet?” He asked, shaking his head slightly. “Please tell me you’ve at least found a good read. But you know, just wandering really.”

Emlyn laughed softly, “It’s like you don’t know me at all.” she teased before gesturing to a table with a fairly large stack of books placed on it, “Those are mine. I’m just deciding if there’s anything else I want before I actually go up to buy them.” she explained. “If you’re bored here though, I could always go ahead and pay and then join you for a while?”

As pathetic as it had felt in his own mind, Isaiah had kept a list of all the things he wanted to get while in Hogsmede one, so he didn’t forget to grab the few things he needed from the small village and more importantly, so he could refresh himself later on the places he’d gone to in case someone wanted to discuss what they had all done during the trip so he didn’t look like a complete idiot struggling to remember. The only issue was he couldn’t exactly pull out his shopping list when his sister of all people ended up standing right next to him. “Hey Em. No, I’m just looking around.” He shrugged, forcing a small smile at her.

Emlyn grinned up at her brother, “Alright. But if you do decide you’re looking for something specific, I really think I can help. I’ve probably been here for a few hours at this point.” she admitted. While there were a few stores she had wanted to explore, she had never been able to resist the call of a bookstore and she felt like she truly couldn’t be blamed for completely losing track of the rest of the world while there. “What about you? Where have you been?”

Laura hurried down the streets of Hogsmeade. She couldn’t get away from that damn fire fast enough; it was as if the image was burned into her memory, and she couldn’t get it out. She’d managed to stop crying, at least, but her vision was still blurry, no matter how much she wiped at her eyes, so really it should’ve come as no suprise when she crashed into someone.

“Sorry,“ she muttered without even glancing at the person. Then, naturally, she felt a stab of guilt and her eyes flickered to them, just to make sure they were okay. “You alright?“

Emlyn had stood back, staring as people began to panic as they noticed a small fire a little way off. It was strange, the first time it had occurred to her that maybe this unnatural calmness wasn’t as good of a solution as she had thought it was. Still, as much as she knew that she should be upset right now, that she would be without the potion, and most people who knew her would expect her to be, she couldn’t quite manage to worry about it. When someone suddenly ran into her she stepped back on instinct before nodding at their question. “Oh, yes. Yes, I’m fine. Don’t worry about it. I guess a lot of people got ... a little upset over that fire down there. It looks small though, I’m sure it will be out quickly.”

“Thank god,” Kira sighed, quickly running over to the only empty booth in the Three Broomsticks. She set her bag down next to her before waving her friend over. “I thought we’d have to wait for an hour.”

“It really wasn’t that bad.” Emlyn said with small laugh as she settled into the booth across from Kira, “Everything takes longer on Hogsmede weekends, honestly I was expecting worse.” she said, which was true. The crowds on these trips tended to really unnerve her, but everything had gone better today, which told her that she had clearly been making the right choice lately.

“I don’t think it’s possible to have too many sweets, but I definitely bought enough that I should share,” they laughed lightly and held the Honeydukes bag out. “Want some?”

Emlyn smiled as the head boy offered the bag to her, “Well, it depends, is there chocolate?” she asked them, “I don’t think I’ve ever really turned down chocolate.”

Emlyn never could decide exactly how she felt about Hogsmede weekends. She certainly enjoyed the freedom, and the ability to look around the shops and see something different, but at the same time, it always made her nervous to be somewhere even more public then usual with her family scattered to the winds as they all explored different parts of the town. This time, however, Emlyn knew how to handle things. She had taken a dose of her calming potion just before heading out and was now calmly looking through books in Tomes and Scrolls with none of her usual panic. She looked up and smiled when she spotted a familiar face, “Hi! Are you looking for anything in particular? I could probably help, I think I’ve been through half the store at this point.”
