i just had an experience i dont think anyone else on earth has ever had before where i saw a tumblr ad and thought “wow that seems interesting i want to check that out” (it was an ad for a new method of learning to speak welsh) and for the first time in human history i actually intentionally clicked on an ad on tumblr to see more information about a product and the fucking link it had embedded was broken and didnt work
you: oh cool I’m interested, where does this link go?
tumblr ad:
my experience as a girl has just been “I just wanna be beautiful” for 20+ years it really is the root of all evil
“Scared cat gets saved by two French guys”
(Source)
This is so adorable:
1) those two guys don’t know each other at all, they both stopped independently when they saw the kitten
2) they both come to the conclusion that it was abandoned, and seem really distraught and concerned as to how it ended up there
3) the biker says he’d take the kitten home himself, but he’s allergic, so the pink and grey shirt guy agrees to look after it instead
If you emotionally abused/manipulated/gas-lit your child
If you forced your child to fill the role of a dead or absent spouse
If you used your child as a sounding board for all of your emotional problems
If your child had to bear the burden of family financial difficulties
If you made your child deal with bullying, racism, homophobia, transphobia, or sexism at school/home
If you let your mental health problems negatively effect how you treated and cared for your child
If you sexually abused your child
If your child was sexually abused by someone else and you made them cover it up or continue to be around their abuser
if you abandoned your child
If you put your significant other over your child
If you prevented your child’s other parent from being in their life out of spite
If your child had to grow up too fast, they have every right to speak on it, express their feelings, and/or cut you out of their lives. And if they ever feel the need to tell you just how you made them feel, if they criticize you in anyway, YOU BETTER SIT THERE, SHUT YOUR FAT MOUTH, AND LISTEN.
Having someone raise their voice at you while you’re having a panic attack and then guilt tripping you is possibly the worst thing to happen to me while having an attack
terrifying your own child into submission makes you an abuser.
watching your child cry and screaming at them to stop and invalidating their pain and reasons for crying makes you an abuser.
staring at your child in disgust and contempt after they displease you makes you an abuser.
threatening to your child to take away their basic resources if they don’t give you exactly what you want makes you an abuser.
forcing your child to feel ashamed for not living up to your ideals makes you an abuser.
using slurs, hateful names and insults on your own child without any regard to what it does to their mental health makes you an abuser.
forcing your child to chase impossible expectations and making them feel like they’re worthless for not achieving them makes you an abuser.
acting like your child is a burden and a waste of space and blaming their illness/disability/depression on it makes you an abuser.
behaving like your child will never amount to anything and isn’t worth any resources and nurturing makes you an abuser.
making your child feel like they’re never good enough makes you an abuser.
if your child’s heart is hurting because they know no matter what they do and how hard they try they will always be a failure in your eyes, you are an abuser.
if your child can’t look at themselves without self hatred because they had to look at themselves from your perspective and all they saw is disgust and hatred, you’re an abuser.
If your child is struggling to believe they have the right to live and to be cared and loved, if they can’t stop hearing your hateful voice putting them down and using their every action to prove they’re worthless, you’re an abuser.
If you watched your child in pain and assured them they deserved it, you’re an abuser.
If your child can’t love themselves from how badly you hated them, you’re an abuser.
imagine being able to handle things. that’s wild.
do you ever just cry your eyes out because you want to die so bad but can’t kill yourself? because same
*wears a gigantic t-shirt* the shape and size of my body is a secret :-)
stop FUCKING telling people that no one will love them untill they love themselves. stop shoving this idea down everyone’s throat that they are unworthy of love because of their own struggle.
Someone fucking said it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
A lot of people with childhood trauma (and, from my experience, especially attachment trauma) find themselves yearning for a parent figure. A mother, a savior - someone to hold you and love you in all the ways you needed when you were a child. Someone to hold you while you break into a million pieces.
At some point in recovery/therapy you will have to face the harsh reality: there will never be anyone. Not like that, not anymore. And mourning that? That’s too much, that feels like a pain that cannot be survived. A pain that will swallow you whole, a pain that will drown you.
Therapists can offer a lot of support, but not like that. So maybe you want to switch therapists in hopes of finding someone who can (even though, if they are a good therapist, they can’t), or you would rather be without therapists because then at least they won’t have to suffer the pain of “someone’s here but they’re not enough”.
Getting a little support, a little of everything we missed, a little of everything we want… Getting a little is worse, in some ways. Because getting a little bit activates the pain; it triggers the feelings of what we miss. Dripping a couple drops of water in an empty bucket makes you feel how devastatingly empty that bucket is.
Getting nothing and being absolutely alone is dull. It’s a drag of depression and darkness. But getting a little bit but not everything? That’s sharp and flashing pain, it’s dry heaving from the heavy crying. It’s intrusive thoughts and self-destructive thoughts. It’s breaking apart again and again and again.
abusive parents will go off about how expensive it is to keep you around and how they have no money and what a fucking burden you are and they don’t see the irony?
dude. you MADE me. what the fuck were you thinking. stupid idiot loser. go back to that moment and don’t have sex. problem fucking solved. what the fuck do you expect me to do, die now that you decided having kids is inconvenient? wow. maybe you should have thought this thru.
when my mom says this shit to me i typically reply “well if kids are so expensive then you should have had an abortion” to which she replies “but i wanted you” and i say “then you made this choice, you did this to yourself. its not my fault you made a bad financial decision” and then she gets so mad that she refuses to speak to me for a while. she hasnt brought this up in over 2 months now.
in the same vein: don’t fuck your kids up and then complain about all the money you’re spending on therapy
I’m off to the woods ! It’s been too long, I need to sit in a creek and forget some things.
Thinking a lot about how people have liked to meme on late-life Johnny Cash for “God’s Gonna Cut You Down” and his “Hurt” cover but man, I think his last few years were amazing. He was a man who was always on the right side of things, pro-union, anti-prison, and then at the end of his life he just got weird and apocalyptic, looking back on his own life and staring death in the face. That shit rules. He went out with dignity, which can be said about a lot of people, but more than that, he went out with ambition. “You can have it all, my empire of dirt” sounds melodramatic coming from 29 year old Trent Reznor singing about drugs, but coming from a 70 year old man who was one of the faces of his entire goddamn genre, who had fought for change his entire life and never seen any real progress? That’s fucking devastating.
“I wore black because I liked it. I still do, and wearing it still means something to me. It’s still my symbol of rebellion – against a stagnant status quo, against our hypocritical houses of God, against people whose minds are closed to others’ ideas.“— Johnny Cash
Dude went through hell. He earned his emo phase
also he covered “hurt” like,,, immediately after his wife died. he was mourning her through that song. it was beautiful and touching, not “emo”. let dude have emotions
Don’t forget that one of the reasons he wore black very early on and became known as The Man in Black is because of all the injustice he saw in the world and felt that it was something he could do to actually bring those tragedies and injustices to the table for conversation. He was very aware of his place in the world and what he had that others didn’t or couldn’t have - and boy howdy did he use it
Moreover he never claimed to be a saint or even a good person for that matter. He never asked for any recognition for doing what he felt was right.
Also? Unlike some older musicians who looked down their nose at the new music that was coming out, he embraced it. He didn’t close himself off from what was new and happening. Hell, Nick Cave cited Johnny Cash as one of his biggest influences, and Cash ended up covering one of his songs and collaborating with him.
And he regarded prisoners as what they are. Human beings who are often victims of prejudice. His most famous live shows were at San Quentin and Folsom.
I’ve often heard it described that the difference between the two versions of Hurt is that Nine Inch Nails’ is about dying of a drug addiction. Johnny Cash’s is about living with one.
But seriously listen to his song Man in Black. Guy was the real deal.
there is also a pretty awesome biographical comic about him, “I see a darkness” if that is your jam check it out
