Saw ur post and felt the urge to contribute
"Keeping your nose clean I hope, Archie."
"MY NOSE CLEAN?!" it's the strangest guffaw-chortle that busts out of archie, but it rocks him, the side of his fist pounding into his thigh.
it had taken him a moment to recognize the young man, realize that he was one and the very same that had quashed maxie's plans. magma was the machine, sure, but maxie was the engineer, the only one in that scheme that archie felt could rival him. and besides, what was it that they said? the enemy of my enemy is my friend?
well, he wasn't sure about friends, but he could make do with 'a kid i won't squash under my thumb'. if he even could do that anymore. arceus, the kid had sprouted while archie had been offshore.
"scamp," you little shit, "i'm not sure that it's any of your business what's going on with your ol' pal archie. you don't have to worry about me causing trouble any time soon." not soon. he was nowhere near ready to try and take on kyogre by himself again, not yet.
Brendan hadn't had much interaction with Archie. He'd met his people plenty of times, especially early on, but after that it had been mostly May who had dealt with them as he had Maxie.
In his few brief encounters, though? Archie definitely had more charisma. Maxie could get by on speaking what he viewed as common sense. Archie had never had that, near as Brendan could see. Its hard to get people onboard with drowning the world without the charisma to sell it. Expanding the land? Anyone could have done that.
No, Archie was a special kind of dangerous over Maxie. He had the smile of a Sharpedo, as stereotypical as it was.
"Only if you make it our business again." Brendan replies with a shrug. There's no threat there - just honesty, and a promise. He didn't hate the man. He didn't hate either of them. But he knew that, like his Ace, Archie would always keep trying to swim. He'd never be satisfied with anything small. No; everything about him was larger than life.
Anytime soon wasn't never.
"Otherwise, live how you like." He finishes. Brendan isn't the scrawny kid he was thirteen years ago. He's filled out, taller. He's a man now himself. "May was right about you. Maxie was always a lot more dour."
Its not that Brendan was never afraid, on that note. He certainly was (especially early into his journey, though he had May there for a lot of the early encounters with Aqua, and later he'd deal almost exclusively with Magma).
But as time wore on and he had more and more encounters over the three years his journey took him, he just started to see the absurdity in it all. Maybe it was how he subconsciously coped with it, but they stopped being 'scary criminals' and just became obstacles to kick down to stop them pulling off their schemes.
Brendan was a bright child and well-read, so he understood why Magma's goal was objectively a terrible one, even if he didn't totally grasp every single detail until later on. Aqua's was just downright absurd in his eyes, and still is to this day.

Brendan doesn't really have "fears" of Evil Teams, honestly. Past a certain point, even at thirteen, he just started to see what Magma and Aqua was doing as stupid. They needed to be stopped, and were dangerous, but it was less "I'm scared" and more "These people are absolute idiots." - if they popped up again, he'd stamp them out again.
His worst experiences came because of the Legendaries.

so why do you think mamoswine is different?
"Personally? I believe it is because Yanmega and Tangrowth represent a direct path of Darwinian evolution to Yanma and Tangrowth in a way that Mamoswine does not with Piloswine, but in all three cases these 'devolutions' are reactivated through a specific means."
Mamoswine is the most unique of the three Ancient Power evolutions because Piloswine cannot learn Ancient Power through direct level-up (unlike Yanma and Tangela) as it learns the move at "Level 1" which can only be accessed by a move relearner.
This implies, in most wild populations, a Piloswine cannot evolve further.
However, Swinub can have Ancient Power as an egg move from its evolutions through breeding. This suggests that the wild Mamoswine we see in the various games are descended from those that didn't go extinct at the end of the last Ice Age through passing Ancient Power on as an egg move along successive generations.
But, given Mamoswine was believed to have been extinct for a while (to quote the Pokedex) it is likely that the majority of the species adapted to the changing climate by shrinking down into Piloswine and Ancient Power as a move becoming recessive.
what do you think of Galar's fossils?
"Cara Liss is an absolute disgrace to the field of palaeontology, and the poor Pokemon she revives suffer from extreme issues, both behaviourally and physically. None of them are complete fossils and their biology is extremely mismatched as a result. They are in constant suffering."
"She should be in jail."
Do you think Fossil Pokemon should be integrated into the modern world?
"No. Don't get me wrong; it is amazing to see Fossil Pokemon when they're revived. It can help advance our understanding of evolution and what our own past might have been like as a species. Hell, I have a Cradily of my own that I've had since I was on my journey."
"But it has to be said; these creatures went extinct for a reason. As amazing as they are, this isn't their world anymore. Taking care of a Fossil Pokemon is so much work - everything from getting them used to battling, to humans, to the modern world, making sure they can eat what they're given without gastric upset or illness, keeping them vaccinated and health and enriched... its a lot. Its a lot even for those who know what they're doing. You should see just how much of her free time Roxanne spends taking care of those she has."
"And even in the best case you end up with examples like Omanyte being invasive when they escape from labs and manage to breed, or whatever the hell you'd call Galar's Crown Tundra."
"But! There are examples of Fossil Pokemon living into the present day, so its not like my statement is entirely true. Natural populations of Kabuto still exist in remote places of the world, Relicanth was presumed extinct and rediscovered - and it hasn't changed in millenia - and you've got Pokemon like Piloswine, Yanma and Tangela who can evolve into their prehistoric evolutions through certain circumstances, none of which disrupt the ecosystems of today."
"You should absolutely go see one of Roxanne's lectures in Rustboro University. She's far more knowledgeable about Pre-Cenozoic Pokemon than I'll ever be."
Despite being such a basal Pokemon - one of the earliest species besides Anorith that can be revived in fact - Mary is smart enough that when she's bored, she'll make it everyone elses problem.
She's not quite as smart as a Pokemon like Octillery, but she's definately not stupid and Brendan has to find ways to keep her amused. She likes simple puzzle games.
