A bright summer morning in Goldenrod City it was. Brendan had just woken up to get ready for a Pokeathlon that he had been waiting to see for a while now. Apart from contests that were held in the Hoenn Region, the Johto Region held the Pokeathlon which was extremely popular on TV in the Hoenn Region.
"Yosh!" Brendan said aloud to himself while in the shower of his hotel room. "I've been waiting for this day for a while!"
A month ago he had gotten tickets to see all the events of the Pokeathlon today, and he stayed at a hotel in Goldenrod City two days prior to the event. He had everything timed out well. Wake up 6:30 am, Take a shower at 7:00 am, Eat breakfast 7:30 am, go to bus stop 8:00 am, Reach Pokeathlon Dome 8:30 am, Start of Pokeathlon 9:00 am.
Brendan got out of the shower, humming along to the Pokemon Center tune and checked his Pokenav Plus.
"Ahh, what time is it..." he said, checking the time. "... WHAT!?"
Brendan frantically hurried and brushed his teeth and put on his clothes and ran downstairs to the lobby. Given that they were providing complimentary breakfast, Brendan took a piece of toast and stuck it in his mouth, then dashed out of the lobby doors.
No no no! It's 8:05! The bus is already there and is probably leaving soon! he thought to himself as he hurried down the streets of Goldenrod City.
Brendan saw the bus in his sights when he turned the corner of a block and dashed towards it. He saw a few remaining passengers board the bus and take their seats. His hopes were about to fade when he saw the bus doors about to close.
"WAAAAAAAAAAAIT!!!!!!!!!!" He screamed at the top of his lungs while sprinting towards the bus!
When Brendan asked her about secret bases, the brunette merely shook her head. “Just the ones I used to make when I was little” she stated with a light laugh. As the male trainer gestured to the space around them, informing her that it was considered a secret base, Leaf’s eyes flickered with curiosity. “Really?” she asked, her tone rather surprised as she observed the darkened area they resided in more closely. A secret base? What an interesting thing to have. It really was a place you could escape to, freeing yourself from the harsh world around you. The brunette suddenly felt rather excited at the prospect and was then pulled from her thoughts by Brendan’s inquiry.
"Ahh, the Kanto region...!" he exclaimed. He had never been there before, but had always wanted to go there. "Lava cookies?" he smiled. Lava cookies were a big thing in Lavaridge Town, especially up in Mt.Chimney. "Lava cookies are really good! Once the storm passes I could take you to Mt.Chimney where they sell them." he said, happily offering to her.
"So the Kanto Region is where you're from?" he asked again to clarify. "I've always wanted to go there, it was so close to the Johto Region wasn't it? Like didn't the two regions connect?" he asked. "I lived in the Johto Region for 10 years before moving to Littleroot Town." he said. "My dad told me that the Gym Leaders in the Kanto Region were really looked up to, and that the Champion had gone missing for a while."
"His name was... Red! Do you know him?" Brendan asked as he laid back against the cave wall. "I've always wanted to go to Pallet Town to meet Professor Oak, Professor Birch always talked about him when I was at his lab with my friend." Brendan said, finally simmering down from talking so much.
After a while of conversation, Brendan yawned and checked his PokeNav Plus. "Ahh, it's getting late." he said, "The sandstorm should be really weak by tomorrow morning, so we could head out then." Brendan placed his bag on the floor and laid his head on it. "Will you be okay? I mean comfortable." he asked, turning to look towards Leaf.
With a quick excuse to change, May snuck away to her room and closed the door behind her. Once the lock set in place, she wasted no time in sinking to her knees and curling up into a little ball of embarrassment.
“Well that could have gone better,” she murmured, her breath raising goosebumps on her knees. She could still remember Brendan’s warmth as he hovered by her side and the slight smile they had shared. Just thinking about it made her ears burn and her head turn to mush. They had shared something, a moment dared she say, with all the weight of lingering touches and sidelong glances and… Ugh, she was so far gone.
A skirt... Brendan thought as she came back downstairs, patting down her skirt. Brendan thought it was a bit funny because he never really saw her in such a girly outfit. The usual Tom-boyish outfit she usually wore was gone. And in replacement, a blouse with a skirt. Brendan really had a thing for skirts, and to see May in one... Let's just say tissues had to be used.
Once the birthday song was sung, Brendan had said what other people usually say to someone with a birthday cake.
"Quick, now make a wish!"
A long pause lingered in the room as May had her eyes closed. Brendan standing right in front of her as the Pokemon were gathered around Brendan and May, with the lights dimmed just enough for that one candle to light up the room on its own. And after a few moments, May blew out the candle and Brendan turned the lights back on. Pokemon cheered and Brendan was clapping along with them, a bright smile on his face.
And like any other curious person, he asked, "So, what did you wish for?"
May looked up towards the ceiling as Brendan waited, standing next to her. Probably what she always wished for before. he thought to himself as he closed his eyes and smiled. Then, with a sudden jolt of shock and excitement, he felt a pair of lips kiss his cheek. They were soft, like freshly picked Pecha Berries. Brendan opened his eyes to see May close to his face.
"It doesn't matter, It's already come true."
Idiot... Sly... Hahaha... Brendan thought as he looked away, his face red and flushed as he cooed a small smile. In his hand behind him was the small gift box with the Sapphire gem. While looking away, he held out his hand and held the box to her face.
"Here." he said, his face still turned away from embarrassment.
He was having thoughts in his head and a nervous, and fast-paced beat in his heart. Ahh... What's wrong with me...? I.. I've always liked her since we first met.. But now.. Why do I feel so nervous...?
