We'll stay in touch
One of the most painful lies in life
It scares me to know how fast the Earth moves around the sun, and how fast best friends can turn to strangers
"Did you know, every time you fall in love with someone, they’ll have stars around them as they shine brightly when you see them, and you’ll get lost in their eyes, and their smile makes your heart skip an extra beat” She asked him softly.
He turned to look at her. “Of course I knew that.”
She laughed and hid her smile against his shoulders. He laughed along with her, glad to hear that their laughter matched each others so perfectly before saying, “Of course, I knew that because it’s how I feel every time I’m with you”
And that’s the thing with friends. You can have twenty, or fifty or hundreds, but they’ll never really truly understand you.
She knew that. It was a reason why she didn’t trust them like she would her parents. And even then there was a line with them. Since the last time she felt that feeling, she had created a wall so high that no one had been able to climb over it. And those who were with her on the other side slowly began to climb their way out.
She was alone. But it was better that way.
Because it pays well to know that she will never feel that pain again.
There it was again.
The familiar twinge in her chest as if her heart was lit on fire, slowly burning away at her feelings. It’s been years since this last happened.
She hated it.
She had promised herself to never let this type of emotion seep back in - but tonight it had - just for a few minutes, but it was enough.
And so she did well to remember the pain again and did well to erase it... hopefully forever this time.
She went through each picture, remembering the feeling, remembering the laughter, the moments, the memories of them all. She looked at all the familiar faces. What felt like forever had only been a year, yet so much had changed. She looked at the places she went, the people she met, the things she ate, and the things she did.
Just this once, will she let herself dwell in those moments.
And then one by one she deleted them all.
Then that someday turns to today. And when that happens, few will stretch out their arms to embrace it tightly while many will watch as it steadily goes past.
"Does it still hurt?”
He closed his eyes, and leaned his head against her shoulder. “No.”
She lightly traced the pierced ear with her finger. “Do you still feel the pain?”
He could feel her fingers tremble as it traces his ear, and he could feel her chest move as she took in another breath. “Do you still love her?”
He leaned into her touch once more and closed his eyes once again. “No.”
She loved them yet hated them both.
