Do you have a favourite circus member?
[shakes head] Iâve thought about it, but I really donât. I love them all, in spite of--no, especially what makes them different!

Do you have a favourite circus member?
[shakes head] Iâve thought about it, but I really donât. I love them all, in spite of--no, especially what makes them different!
so is there anyone you /like-like/ in the circus???
âWhat??? No!â He stuck out his tongue. âIâm like, 11--Iâm too young to think about that stuff!!â
Doesn't that mean you're acting on the side of tyrrany?
âNo, Iâm not!â He stomped his foot, and his face began to flush. âIf the head werenât such an asâa meanie who hurt the people I care about then I wouldnât have to do all this!â
Peter sobbed and looked down at his hands, âMy hands are just so smallâŠ.itâs all I can do.â
How do you protect the others?
âBy very subtly discouraging them from breaking the rules.â Peter absentmindedly rolled a bead between his fingers, âIncluding the unwritten ones. Pushing them towards survival, basically.â
He took the bead in his fist and covered his mouth as he cleared his throat. âFor example, when they get bored and discontent, I distract them. Instead of having them get angry and take it out on others and get in trouble for it, I make small problems of my own, or ask them to play. I endear myself to them--then they feel like thereâs something worth protecting. That helps to keep them in line. Why would they rebel when they see itâs dangerous, and thereâs a kid looking up to them who might do the same?â
â....Donât get me wrong. I despise how the place is run. But Iâve seen so many people get hurt for acting out. Itâs just not the wise thing to do.â
What's something you can't help to hold onto?
âHope?â He didnât seem so sure of his answer, so he shrugged. âBut then that makes it sound so futile. I really donât think it is.â
Is there anyone in the circus you see as a parent figure?
âPretty much all the adults!â He chirped, but while his smile was childish, it didnât seem as naive. âThey all stepped up to sort of fill the gap; but since I never knew my mum, I never reallyâŠfelt said âgapâ, you know? Itâs just the sort of childhood I had. Iâm proud of how Iâm being raised.â
He paused, and looked down sadly. â..But since I have to be honest, I feel like I have to fend for myself here. Especially since people get hurt so easily when they barely step out of line. Not just for meâIâd hate to sound like Iâm tooting my own horn here,â he snorted amusedly, âbut I do a lot to protect them too. Especially the ones that come around later.â
ââŠ.But donât tell anyone. It makes it a lot easier for me and it helps people feel more distracted when they just see me as some orphan to babysit. I think it genuinely makes some of âem happyâŠand I would absolutely hate to change that.â

Lights Out
âI canât see a thing.â
âWhere are you?â
âWhat did I just step on?â
âI just stepped in something.â
âIs this a bad time to mention Iâm afraid of the dark?â
âHey, itâs just me!â
âThere must be some candles around here or something.â
âDid you bring a flashlight?â
âWhere is that light switch?â
âI canât find the door.â
âWhere are my keys?â
âSee, this is why you donât keep sharp objects laying around.â
âDid you hear that?â
âCalm down. Iâm sure the lights will come back on in a minute.â
âThis place just got ten times scarier.â
âI donât like the dark!â
âTurn the lights back on!â
âWhatâs wrong, scared of the dark?â
âThis isnât funny!â
âTry not to break anything.â
âThereâs nothing to be afraid of.â
âStop jumping at every little noise.â
âNothingâs changed, itâs just dark.â
âGuess itâs an early bedtime.â
âSomething sharp just went right through my foot!â
âDid you forget to pay the electric bill?â
âIt could be hours before they fix the powerlines.â
âSo what do we do now?â
âYou have got to be kidding me.â
âWe can ride this out, no harm done.â

Trimming Posts for those without XKit
Since editable reblogs is having some difficulty, hereâs a quick and dirty stand in for the time being:
1) Hit the option to reblog the post. 2) Copy your rp partnerâs previous post using Ctrl+C (or whatever is the equivalent on your machine). 3) Scroll down to the area where you can type your reply, and paste their reply back in using Ctrl+V (or whatever is the equivalent on your machine) 4) Type your reply below the pasted section. 5) Highlight the pasted section and use the tumblr tools to insert a blockquote.
This is a blockquote.
6) Navigate to the top of the post and hover over the original information until you see a red X. Click the X and it will delete all the old stuff, leaving only your new reply, and the copy/pasted old reply. 7) Tag and post. Your rp partner will still be notified of the reblog assuming they have notifications set up.
IF YOU HAVE ICONS Icons are messy and may involve a bit of extra work. To deal with icons:
1) Icon Not Copying Over With Text - you may need to do this individually, either from the reblog post, or from the original post page itself. Right click the icon, then select copy (or whatever is the equivalent on your machine) and then paste it in where it should go.
2) Icon Wonât Sit Under Blockquote - this involves a bit of trickiness, and youâll need to click the gear icon on the top of the reblog page and change Rich Text to HTML. You should get something like this: <blockquote>random things here</blockquote><img src=âURLHEREâ> To get the icon INSIDE a blockquote, simply move the <img src=âURLHEREâ> stuff to the left side of the </blockquote> end tag. Thatâs basic HTML. Tumblr is stupid and doesnât do this by default so sometimes you have to tweak it. :)
Hey, Oeryan, was it? [leans against the cage while Ărjan is in tiger form] What's the matter? Cat got your tongue???
[glares] [itâs Ărjan]
[groooowl] [though itâs not very menacing]

[tilts his head and stares at the boy for a while]
Huh. So thatâs what you look like.
[just stares back]
[pouts]
Whatâs that sâpposed to mean?
[blinkblink] Uh...nothing? Just haven't seen you as anything but a sad looking cat in that cage. [laughs] If it makes you feel better you could..stare back??? [lmao what about Peter is unusual anyway] Like my eyebrows, maybe??
Anyway. I didn't bring you out just to gawk, don't worry. [He takes out a device from his pocket] I wanted to show ya something!

[the growl did nothing to the grin on his face]
[kneels down and whispers] Hey, I probably shouldnât be doing this right now, but youâve been locked in for too long nowâdonât scratch me or anything, then theyâll know I let you out and weâll both be in trouble, okay?? We can get out of this scot-free, but weâll have to work together.
[undos the latch and opens the door]
[immediately jumps out of the cage]
[and as soon as he hits the ground he transforms]
Ugh, finally.
[tilts his head and stares at the boy for a while]
Huh. So that's what you look like.
"Bonjour," Josephine chirped, "what are you doing up so early?"
âHello, Josephine.â The boy smiled up at her, âI was just hoping to catch some performers rehearsing their routines.â
She had hesitated, only slightly, before taking hold of his hand without worry, heart swelling marginally over how bright he suddenly was. It was nice to see how excited someone got, especially over just the rehearsals. Of course, things could go wrong there, too, so Josephine might just keep him close to her. Some of the acts were dangerous!Â
As soon as they got to the practice tent, Josephine lead their way inside, eyes scanning for who else might be in there. She smiled, warmly, âjust be careful, Peter, alright?âÂ
"Sure will." He nodded, but enumerated some of the things to be careful of; for good measure, of course. "Don't bring anything flammable near the fire performers, be lightfooted around the dancers spinning plates, watch out for aerial dancers--oh, and steer clear of the /knife throwers/ unless they acknowledge you and let you come closer." Well. It turns out he did have a purpose for that mouthful...
"I wouldn't be too afraid; I'm sure I'll be safe if I stick with you!"
"Damek! Think fast!!"
âWhatâ? Peterâ!â Damek had already begun to duck, hands up and ready to catch anything thrown his way that was able to be caught and a slightly confused smile spreading across his features.
âWhoa!â Peter exclaimed as he watched Damek somehow catch the ball he pitched.
âEvery time!!! Even when itâs coming from behind.â He laughed and clapped his hands, âBut I expect no less from you.â
"'N just what do ya t'ink yer doin', Wee Pete?"
Peterâs lips puckered and his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. When he finally felt the moment was right, he threw the dart - yet it landed far off-centre on the target.
âAwâŠI thought I would get that one.â He poured, but quickly stood up straighter.
âAh, Alistair!â The boy brightened up at the sight of another. âJust trying out the darts. Got a bit bored. Donât worry, Iâm being careful.â
âI see t'at.â Alistair had waited until the boy had taken his shot before interrupting, lips curled with a light hearted amusement as stepped beside the boy, noticing where dart had landed. Far from perfect butâŠat least it had managed to hit the board at all. âYer shotsâ gettinâ even better.â
Peter laughed, "Well then what's that have to say about my previous tries?" He recognized that the redhead meant well, though. "Thanks, Alistair."
He looked down at the second one in his hand, shrugged, and put it away. He wasn't at all serious about trying to improve his aim, anyway; it was just something to pass the time. He much preferred to talk to anyone who felt like it as well.
"So, have you been working on anything new recently?" He began to rock on his heels, "Has Josephine given you any suggestions? I see you've been around each other more recently." A spark of mischief in his eye was tempered by his childish smile.
