“Almost all A’s? Shadow, that’s amazing!” Cassandra said, lifting the eight year old up and spinning her around. “Oh, I’m so proud of you!”
Cassandra truly was proud of Shadow- to be able to do that well in school? After everything? Cassandra was beaming, and when she stopped spinning around, she hugged Shadow close. Cassandra hadn’t really been that good in school- the only time she excelled was on Pyrrah, and by then she was nineteen and under extraordinary circumstances. To be able to do well, at this young age, with such a turbulent life? Cassandra was so, so proud.
Then, she leaned back so she could look at Shadow. “Well, a C’s passing! And we can work on that a little bit this summer- we can read together, if you’d like.”
Shadow was honestly happy for the hug, and for being spun. She clung tightly for a moment, then grinned, blue eyes bright as she leaned back. Being praised wasn’t quite a new experience, at least not since she’d started spending time in the lair, but it still felt so good to hear it.
“I worked really hard! Donnie and April helped me with my math and science stuff. And I did my best at math but I don’t like reading... I like the book you got me but reading’s hard.”
She sounded more frustrated over it than expected, sniffing a bit as she pulled her braid over her shoulder. Reading, writing, spelling... those had always been so hard for her, and though her teachers tried to help, but it was so hard for her to even focus.
“Words just look kinda jumbly.”
@littlestjones reblogged for a starter;
Chompy gave a scared whimper as she scurried throught the alleys running from some feral dogs… She was lost and in a new body, terrified as she ran on fours, she was supposed to wait for Raph outside of the warehouse where the current mission was going down, only she’d wandered off and had an unfortunate experience with mutagen. She’d barley escaped the kraang when the dogs found her, she ran on fours as best as she could with her new form but they would catch her pretty soon, she’d been running all night she was so tired… thats when she saw an open window. She jumped as best she could, climbing up a window unit and squeezing in before collapsing on the floor of the house before a small whine erupted from her exhausted body,
“H-Help…”
Shadow had been in the process of packing her backpack, ready to spend a few days at the lair with her brother, when the unknown mutant came climbing into her window. She very nearly shrieked at the sudden intrusion, scrambling back as her eyes widened, almost tripping over a stuffed bear lying on the floor.
This was not a familiar mutant. But she’d met unfamiliar mutants before; the mutanimals were okay. Well, most of them. So maybe this one was no different?
But they wouldn’t have a chance to find out if the stranger kept making noise. Her father would definitely hear, and that’s something neither of them needed. So she put up her hands, eyes still round and wide, trying to shush her unexpected guest as quietly as she could.
“Shhh shh shh quiet! Daddy’ll hear and then things’ll get bad!” As far as an eight year old’s logic could go, she could only think of one or two possibilities here. “Are... are you a friend of the turtles?”
me: [goes through a child tag on an inspo blog] me: Yes I'll take all of these family ones for Shad and her brother bc they need and deserve a loving home life
you are so much MORE than your bloodline
I want to make aesthetics for Shadow but I'm bad at aesthetics. orz

*pULLS UP TO DRIVE THROUGH* CAN I GET UUUHHHH SPLINTER AND CASSANDRA TRYING TO HELP AND READING WITH HER??
[slams lil hand paws down on the table gently] Y e s.
Shadow’s dyslexic. Though her teachers have tried to help her, the lack of any real parental guidance at home and her rather unstable home life has made it difficult for her to catch up.
Summertime at last, and for the younger Jones sibling, that meant one thing: more time to spend in the lair with the family she had there. She was all but vibrating with excitement when she bounded her way in, squeezing under the turnstiles and dropping her backpack to the side in its “assigned” space.
First thing she did? Bolt straight for Cassandra for the least sneaky “sneaky” bear hug an eight year old could give.
“Cassandra school’s out! And I got... I got almost all A’s on my report card! But... I got a C in English but I still passed.”
@fireinclined
“Leo! Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo Leo!”
The call of the eldest turtle’s name from the entryway to the lair became louder as the little girl came barreling up the tunnel to the turnstiles, using a trick he’d taught her to spring over the obstacle. She did flub her landing, but she didn’t fall, at least.
“Leo guess what today was?!”
