─ ○ 💚☕ ;     In her time as a magical girl, Oriko learned of various facts; namely, that there was various kind of foolish schoolgirls who contracted without a second thought, not even thinking it twice as the Incubator offered them an opportunity for a wish to be granted.  A part of her pitied them - despair, no matter how small, was capable of pushing people to extreme measures. She, more than anyone, was aware of this fact.

“Hmm…” Everything was calm. It was the usual routine for Oriko, killing a witch or two and collect the Grief Seeds, and it wasn’t as hard as the start even if she was hardly suited for combat. Still, something didn’t feel right. A groan, coming from the darkness, was proof enough of that. “Who’s there?”

Oriko stepped forward into the darkness, carefully, never letting her guard down; it’d be foolish to do so. Slowly, the image became clearer, the source of that groan was…a primary school girl? She wasn’t surprised that Kyubey would target girls as young as her, but the mere idea of them fighting witches was bewildering at best. Her white dress flew with each step Oriko took, until she stood in front of the injured girl. Her height made her seem all more imposing.

“Who are you? What are you doing here?” 

Ruu continued to be quiet, sitting upright. The older magical girl called out to see who was there, but Ruu did not reply; she never did, after all. There was no need to...

She sniffled, looking up at the approaching Oriko. She flinched, expecting her to strike her further, but rather she was... gentle? Was she just trying to fool her or something?

Maybe so, but she didn’t have much to lose.

Ruu didn’t speak, but looked up at her. Her wish to ‘be understood’ did not manifest as she had hoped; she opened her mouth to speak, but could not bring herself to... but, her magic activated all the same: without even saying anything, it was like her thoughts were projected into Oriko’s head.

I’m Ruu. Wakasa Ruu. Are you a magical girl too? I killed the witch but others took the grief seed...

She blinked, looking up at her with curious eyes... but kept her guard up all the same.

Being a magical girl wasn’t quite like Ruu thought it’d be.

She was young, she was naive. She thought it sounded like a good deal... by making the wish she would regain her ability to talk; and to be able to help save the world from monsters! But still, nothing came from her mouth:

I wish for people to understand me!

Looking back at it, she should have specifically wished that she could speak again. Nothing was physically wrong with her, but even now ever since that day the words just refused to come out.

“Ngghh...”

She let out a grunt, leaning against the brick wall. She didn’t know this was another magical girl’s territory. Turns out oblivion seeds were a tad too valuable for the two high schoolers to let even an elementary schooler get away with. And here she was now, without even a grief seed to show for her troubles.

Ruu groaned as she saw another figure join the alleyway, keeping her mouth shut, hoping she could at least avoid more trouble.
