*NEW PIN* An ode to the past and future of Toronto’s historic Massey Hall. As many of you know, The Grand Old Lady of Shuter Street will be closing down for a couple of years for a major revitalization to help bring her back to her former glory. I can’t help but get sentimental about it. For the better part of my 20s and now into my 30s I have worked at Massey Hall as an usher, watching every band I could, perform on that legendary stage. A job I would have done for free in most cases. There’s just something about a concert, especially at Massey. The dark night, the neon sign, the queue of people, the house lights turning down, the spotlight illuminating the stage, the roar of the crowd, and the music filling up such an intimate space. I will miss that so much. Then there’s the people I get to work with, a misfit family I wouldn’t trade for the world. I have seen colleagues fall in love, get married, start bands, show up for one another and become life long friends. I have made such special friendships here, I couldn’t picture my life without them. It’s hard not to feel a bittersweet end of an era has arrived, who knows what the future will hold, but for now I must say goodbye to my second home. So long old friend, see you on the other side!
