A colour correction extra. Nikon F65. Expired Fuji Sensia 100.

Colour correction is necessary after negatives have been scanned because what is represented on the negative is not accurate the the scene that was photographed. Many colour negative films have a orange-brown filter to improve colour representation during printing. When cross processing colour shifts can be really extreme.

Usually the uncorrected scans are not included when the order emailed but with my last batch a folder of uncorrected shots was sent in error. I thought that some of the shots where too good to remain unseen.

Newcastle Cathedral. Olympus Trip 35. Kodak Ektachrome 64T.

The cathedral is one of the most recognisable features in the skyline of Newcastle.

The original structure was destroyed by fire in the 11th century. The gothic elements and distinctive "lantern tower" date from the 14th and 15th centuries. The original Hadrians Wall would have run through the churchyard. Sadly the exact locatiopn is currently unknown.

I opted not to take photos inside as I was not loaded with appropriate film.

Trafalgar Square. Lomo LC-A. Ilford FP4.

My trip to London was very poorly planned and I decided to have a look at Trafalgar Square as I was nearby. Sadly I could not get too near as preperations where being made for some sort of concert or event. I took these shots and welt looking for something else to look at.

I will be back in the capital soon and hope to have more solid plans. This should hopefully lead to some more interesting photos and posts.

Piece Hall, Halifax. Nikon F65. Expired Fuji Sensia 100.

Originally built as a venue for handloom weavers to sell their "pieces" The Piece Hall is quite and impressive entity. It was used as a market until 1971 when traders where relocated. Funding was eventually secured to develop the site as a tourist attraction. It now consists of a few retail units and bars. I had a good rummage around a vintage and collectables shop whilst taking these pics.

Piece Hall also doubles as a venue for concerts and shows. Attending one is now firmly on my bucket list.

Newcastle Central Station. Olympus Trip 35. Kodak Ektachrome 64T.

I had intended to drive to Newcastle for my trip last year. But a car that was obviously coming to the end of it's life prompted me to take a train instead. This altered the tone of the trip somewhat. I finished a book I was reading on the journey there and had a few hours to kill between checking out of the hotel and my return journey. So I decided to use up the roll of film inside my Olympus Trip 35. I was somewhat surprised that these shots where not totally underexposed.

The Torrs Riverside Park. Olympus Trip 35. Expired Fuji Sensia 100 (shot at 80 iso.)

Toors Riverside Park is situated in a gorge seventy meters below road level in New Mills. It is home to the previously featured Millennium Walkway as well as numerous bridges, a railway viaduct and a climbing wall. Torr Vale Mill (at one time the oldest continually operating textile mill in the UK) is probably the most obvious reminder of the areas industrial past.

I was blessed with some bright conditions which meant there was little chance of underexposure. However the results where a little overexposed.

Grainger Market, Newcastle. Nikon F65. Expired Truprint 400.

Grainger Market is situted in Newcastles historic “Grainger Town.” It was completed in 1835 and was designated Grade I Listed status in 1954. Replacing markets on Grey Street it was otiginally divided into two wings, one for vegetable sellers and another for butchers. Today it is home to over a hundred independent businesses including clothing stalls, bakeries and a cafe where I enjoyed a lovely plate of pie and chips for lunch.

The building is currently undergoing a £9 million renovation and redevelopment which will include extra stalls on a previously inacessable upper tier, an area to host gigs and plays, new handmade signing to make its “avenues” easier to navigate and a series of electric doors to address frequent complaints of cold conditions during winter. I do intend to revisit Newcastle and would love to take a walk around here when those works are complete.

The Millennium Walkway. Olympus Trip 35. Expired Fuji Sensia 100 (shot at 80 iso.)

The Millennium Walkway is a very impressive structure. It runs past the impressive Toors Mill and is supported by partly by stilts on the bed of the River Goyt and by a cantilever attached to a railway retaining wall. It was built and designed by Derbyshire County Councils in-house engineers and cost £525,000. One of these engineers, Stan Brewster was killed in a terrorist attack in London on 7th July 2005. A memorial plaque is displayed at the entrance to the walkway.

I made a point if looking for the walkway when I visited New Mills as I had heard it was impressive. It certainly was. I was also blessed with some good weather and nice light or the expired Fuji Sensia may have struggled.

Great Budworth Ice Cream Farm. Holga. Ilford HP5.

New Westgate Farm has been occupied by the Wilkinson family for a number of years. The “Ice Cream Farm” was opened in 1993 after daughter Laura gained a Food and Dairy qualification. The tearoom was added in 2003 and has proved popular.

I visited with the family back in July and shapped a few shots of the exterior. My neices did not want their photo taken. Although they did enjoy feeding the goats. I had a strawberry sundae and I can confirm their ice cream is first rate.

Tyne Bridge. Olympus Trip 35. Kodak Ektachrome 64T.

The Tyne Bridge was completed in 1928 and has become a defining symbol of Newcastle and the wider county of Tyneside. It was designed by engineering firm Mott, Hay and Anderson and built by Middlesborough steel maker Dorman Long & Co.

My hotel was right next to the bridge. it was the first thing I saw when looking out of my window during my stay.

Halifax Town Hall. Nikon F65. Expired Fuji Sensia 100.

As previously stated, my visit to Halifax was not planned. I decided to pay the town a visit when I realised that most businesses and things to see where closed in Todmorden on a Monday.

Whilst walking around I could hardly fail to notice the rather impressive Halifax Town Hall. Completed in 1863 the building was designed by architects Lockwood and Mawson who where also responsible for buildings on the nearby Crossley Street. All these structures where awarded Grade II listed status at the same time.

I have since learned that the interior is also impressive. Should I ever visit Halifax again that would no doubt prove to be a worthwhile visit.

Glossop. Olympus Trip 35. Expired Fuji Sensia 100 (shot at 80 iso.)

As charming as New Mills was it is a very small town and I felt I had seen it all quite quickly. So I refilled the Olympus Trip and decided to make my way to Glossop. I knew nothing about this town other than they did once have a weekly "blues club" and that The League of Gentleman was filmed nearby. I think the war memorial may feature in the title sequence.

Luckily the sun was still out as I was shooting a roll of expired Fuji Sensia at 80 iso.

The British Boot Company. Lomo LC-A. Fuji Superia 100.

The British Boot Company, formally Holts claims to be one of the first places to stock Dr Martens boots and shoes. It became a destination for punks and skinheads who allegedly travelled some distance to purchase the iconic footwear.

Whilst Dr Martens and other brands have moved their production overseas to save on costs the shop has remained loyal to British based companies. I asked if they had some official laces for a pair of Docs and was told that "official" was a dirty word!

Gateshead Millennium Bridge. Olympus Trip 35. Kodak Ektachrome 64T.

Known locally as the "blinking eye bridge" the Gateshead Millennium Bridge is a pedestrian and cyclist crossing that spans the River Tyne between Gateshead and Newcastle.

A competition was held by Gateshead Council in 1996 for designs that was claimed by architects WilkinsonEyre and engineering firm Gifford. It was first tilted in 2001 and the first people who used the walkway where given a medal.

The weather was bright when I snapped these shots but the results look more like twilight as the light sensitivity of the slide film was diminished since the roll had past its date.

Shoreditch. Lomo LC-A. Ilford FP4.

During my brief trip to the capital I decided to visit the alleged "hipster" area of Shoreditch. One could say that as a man with a beard and a vintage camera I was in my natural territory.

The first thong I did was got lunch. Avocado on toast because I thought that was the most "hipster" thing I could eat. It was nice but cost more than i was used to. it was also garnished with edible flowers! We don't get that oin Wigan!

I pointed my LC-A at anything I considered "hipster."

Kentish Town. Lomo LC-A. Fuji Superia 100.

Sadly I did not explore Kentish Town much on my trip to the capital. I merely passed through on my way to locate Camden Town Brewery Beer Hall. However, I do have a feeling I would frequent this area if I did live in London as it is a center for live music.

Shortly after these photos where taken I walked into an industrial/warehouse area because I had put the wrong postcode into Apple Maps.

When I visited Todmorden it was a Monday. Therefore most of the interesting small businesses and cafes where closed. Whilst I did eventually find a cool spot for lunch I felt I had seen att that was possible for that day and decided to return another day and check out another town.

That town turned out to be a city, Namely Halifax. I wondered around aimlessly and snapped a few photos before deciding I should return for a more planned trip or a city break.
