The thing I like the most about Spike is that he's introduced as this scary, monster, super vampire, fought two slayers - killed them both, something no one has ever managed but him. William The Bloody, tortured his victims with railroad spikes, the whole town trembles when he appears, etc. And it does start like that. He's confident, cruel, funny, wickedly charming.
But then, that same scary super vamp comes back drunk as fuck and cries because his girlfriend left him for a slimy demon and makes speeches about being love's bitch. Then, he gets captured by a secret government organization by being electrocuted because he was busy epically monologuing about killing the Slayer he had many chances to kill but didn't. Goes around making promises about drinking the Slayer's blood and falls into random holes in the graveyard. He becomes an even bigger love's bitch and has to babysit a teenager.
That's a man for the ages right there.
