There is a piece of myself that will only ever be found under the stadium lights. Was great to see some amazing drum corps in action, and spend the evening with so many Cadets and Cadets2 friends and alumni. Truly a special evening, especially seeing how strong the organization is in light of everything that happened earlier this year. There’s a new air around everything, and a certain unity between the members and the alumni, and it’s a beautiful thing to behold. During my time at The Cadets2, whenever I put the uniform on, I felt years and years of history marching right behind me. Yesterday, I had the honor of meeting a small contingent of the amazing people that came before me. The Cadets alumni are all such amazing and welcoming people, and to have spent time with them was a blessing, in every sense. Given the whirlwind of the last week, they decided they needed to come together. To have met 3 of the women that came forward, ans well as a couple that didn’t, was honestly so powerful. They said themselves “Don’t look at us as heroes, see us as people that did what they had to do.” And they’re fighting their fight, while behind the scenes, others are working around the clock the marching arts a better place, for the future men and women that perform under the stadium lights we all fell in love with. Leaving this here, as odds are very minimal that anyone will actually see it.

If I return to drum corps, I’m gonna try and return to the Cadets2. After being with all those alumni today, I feel a responsibility to carry that torch once more.

It may happen, it may not, but there’s most certainly a will to come back again.

To the activity that has my heart, to the friends I made around the country and around the world, to the laughs, cries, beautiful and horrible days, to the first performance in Pequannock back in 2006 to the last performances in Dayton, Rochester, MetLife Stadium and beyond, and from the 14 year old that wanted somewhere to be to the 25 year old that played in the World’s Most Famous Arena, MetLife Stadium, and Prudential Center in front of thousands of people. The marching arts made me everything I am, and I am eternally indebted to the activity that instilled in me many of my core values.
