If there was a day in the year that you would expect parents to pay attention to their child it would ordinarily be their birthdays. For Regulus Black this was not the case.

They had bought him the tickets for the Quidditch World Cup so he could accompany the Malfoys and his other peers. His mother also presented him with a new watch, a tradition for every magical child. He understood that it was a right of passage and couldn’t help but think about how he was the only one of the boys born to his parents that received one from Walburga. Sirius hadn’t lasted to adulthood under their roof.

‘It’s almost like a reward,’ Regulus thought to himself. ‘Congratulations, Reg, you managed to remain here for the entirety of your childhood. Here’s a watch to prove it.’

He shook himself from the bitter thoughts and carried on with his day. There was nothing planned for him, maybe he would be able to see Lena or visit with Rabastan? He figured Narcissa was too busy with her husband and there was no one else that he really wanted to see.

That was a lie, there was one person he wanted to see more than the others, but he knew he could never admit these things to anyone for fear of his own disowning. There were things Regulus knew Sirius would never accept as well.

As he pulled out the watch to look at it he felt a twinge in his left forearm from the design beneath his shirtsleeve.

He supposed he had two things that marked him as different from his brother.

CISSY:

“Of course we are going,” Narcissa shrugged slightly at the question. “My husband wants to, and I love Paris…” Her voice trailed off slightly as she could not think of any more substantial reasons to go to the World Cup. Quidditch had bittersweet taste to it, Cissy still associated it too closely to her late sister, Andromeda. But still she smiled and tried to look excited. 

“Cissy, you’re not only going because of Lucius! Aren’t you going to spend any of that time with me? It’s the World Cup, Cissa! Think about how fantastic it’ll be! I’m hoping to learn a few new moves by watching. It’ll give me an edge once school starts!” Childlike glee shone on the teenager’s face. If there was one thing on this Earth that could make Regulus this excited it was quidditch and the prospect of getting better at the sport. “Plus they’ve got the best food at those sorts of things!”

EVAN:

“Always the tone of surprise with you, Rosier.” Regulus huffed, glancing at the elder male. He may have been Lena’s brother but Regulus knew that same positivity was not going to be shown here. “I’m a talented wizard.”

LENA:

“You know the best part of these places is the bloody snacks” 

“I cannot believe you got me to come here,” Regulus grumbled, holding the bucket of popcorn for the pair of them. He hadn’t even tried the stuff yet, given that Lena had also insisted he get some sweets to go with it and a soda to drink. “Muggle food is so odd,” he whispered. A small smile cracked, however, when he saw how pleased she was. “You owe me.”
