I was in fourth grade. Just a couple of weeks previous I had flown right past the two towers in a small plane headed to upstate NY. That was the only time I ever got to see the towers physically. Before it was announced that we couldn't watch the news in class, my math/science teacher was frantic to have the television turned on. Her husband was one of the many men that were called to duty that day. Her eagerness and sadness had depth behind it. There we were, a classroom full of kids watching the twin towers meet its slow ending. Three years later my oldest brother endured the most difficult time of his life overseas. what do you do when you just feel like kissing someone who likes you and you like too but you don't want to date them. you just want to kiss them. what do you do with that longing??

Take it to Jesus.

Take all longings to Jesus.

Trust Jesus with those longings.

Don’t look to fulfill those longings in the wrong way.

And if you were a friend sitting across from me right now, I’d tell you this because I love you:

Be smarter than that. Don’t do something just because you want to. If you don’t want to date them, don’t mess around with each others’ emotions. And don’t lead your own heart on by entertaining thoughts about that. Don’t feed that desire by thinking about it, either- even if you know already you wouldn’t do it. Go do something else and choose healthy relationships! What will help the most honestly is if you change the way you think about them. You probably wouldn’t be thinking about how you’d like to kiss them if you viewed them only as your brother/sister in Christ and decided to love them with a pure Christlike love. You’d be looking for ways to serve them and point them toward Christ and Christlikeness instead of how they could serve your longings. Those longings are totally understandable- but just misplaced. So redirect them to God, trust Him with them, and invest yourself in loving others well in a way that will be healthier for everyone!

Besides, kissing is way better if you truly, deeply love the person you kiss. Wait for that person to kiss. Otherwise it’s just kinda like lust, you’re not doing it because you love them, you’re just giving into your desires.

Rehearsal images released for Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch

Rehearsal images have been released for Lyndsey Turner’s production of Shakespeare’s Hamlet starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role. Check out the images below (click picture to enlarge). The production opens at the Barbican Theatre on 25th August (previews from 5th August) for a limited run until 31st October 2015. Set design is by Es Devlin with video design by Luke Halls. Hamlet will be broadcast to cinemas around the world on Thursday 15th October 2015 as part of National Theatre Live. Click here to find out details about £10 tickets for Hamlet.
