Everyone knew something was between you and Chuck, but neither of you would admit it. You barely admitted it to yourselves, meeting in the dark of the night in secret. You both wanted to move forward in your relationship, but neither of you would admit that either. Chuck insisted on saying you loved him in order for him to be yours, but you countered his offer, insisting he say it first. It was a constant back and forth, but neither of you would cave, too desperate not to let the other “ win ”.
It had been a few days since you last spoke, and you were growing lonely. You missed his voice in your ear, you missed sleeping in his arms at night, but you wouldn’t admit it even if your life depended on it. You needed Chuck to cave, because there was no chance in hell you would.
You got dressed that morning, you wore a purposely short dress that Chuck had bought you, underneath laid a pair of pearly white stockings. You sat atop the hood of his towncar, your fingers twirling in the ends of your hair as you waited for Chuck. Your eyes found him, watching as he left ‘ The Empire ’.
“ Funny seeing you here. ”
You smiled up at him smugly, not moving from your place.
“ You’re sitting on my car. ”
You watched as Chuck pulled a cigarette from his coat pocket, bringing it to his lips before lighting it. Chuck inhaled letting the smoke fill his lungs before breathing it out into the cool evening air. You slid forward, your heeled feet hitting the asphalt. Your hand reached out, plucking the cigarette from Chuck’s lips before bringing it to your own.
You blew smoke straight into Chuck's face, dropping the cigarette after one puff.
“ You want to grab a drink? ”
“ Only if you say those three words first. ”
You rolled your eyes straightening out your dress before stepping up onto the sidewalk.
“ Goodnight Chuck. ”
Chuck wanted to cave right there, he wanted to sweep you off your feet and drag you into his limo screaming, but instead he remained cool and composed, watching as you walked away.

That night once again you laid in bed, your eyemask pulled down across your shut eyes, but still your mind rang with thought. A soft huff escaped your lips before you tugged off the silky cover, opening your eyes to your dimly lit bedroom. You shifted under your plush duvet, searching for a comfortable position. You tossed and turned about your bed, but you were at a loss. You knew it wasn’t your bed keeping you up, it was Chuck. You missed him being near, you missed the familiar smell of his cologne, but you knew in order to get him back you would have to say those words. You knew what saying it meant, it meant being vulnerable, showing more feelings than you ever had, were you really ready for that?

Chuck on the other hand was distracting himself in other ways. As soon as he stepped foot into his penthouse his jacket was off, his tie loosened, and a glass of scotch in hand. He sat down on his sofa, pulling loose the buttons of his dress shirt. One by one he finished another glass until his mind and judgement were clouded by the alcohol. Chuck fumbled for his phone, pulling it free from his pocket. He scrolled through his contacts, his thumb hovering over yours before he pushed past it. He settled on calling an escort agency instead, and requested a girl be sent immediately.
She arrived at his door within the hour, her hair and makeup done up, her body tightly covered by a wrap dress. Chuck quickly pulled her in by her arm, letting the elevator door shut close behind her. Chuck didn’t waste time; he pulled her into his bedroom, throwing her down onto his bed. He didn’t care about this girl, she was there to serve one purpose, and one purpose alone. He didn’t want to know her name, or her life story, all he needed from her was her body. Chuck tossed his clothes onto his bedroom floor, before yanking open her dress. She laid naked underneath the fabric, completely open for him to take. Deep down he wanted you to be under him, he didn’t want some random whore, but he was too drunk to deny himself the pleasure of sex.

You laid awake, your phone in hand, fighting against your pride. Slowly you gave way to yourself, dialing Chuck’s cellphone number. It rang once.. Then twice.. Then finally a third time… On the fourth ring the call dropped going to his inbox. You didn’t leave a message, instead you dialed his home phone. Once again it rang and rang before you got his inbox, you knew Chuck’s home phone played his messages aloud so long as the caller was on the line.
“ Chuck, I know your home, answer your phone. ”
Chuck’s heart almost leaped from his chest when he heard your voice call out to him. He froze on top of the girl, his motions completely stilling.
“ What’s wrong baby, I was close.. ”
“ Shut up. ”
Chuck’s words came out a cold hiss, yanking himself out of the girl before going over to his phone. Quickly he picked it off the receiver, pressing it to his ear.
“ Chuck? Is that you? ”
“ Yeah, it’s me. ”
“ I love you Chuck. ”
Chuck’s heart sank, there was another girl in his bed, completely naked and here you were confessing your love for him. It was everything he ever wanted, but not now, not in this moment.
“ Chuck? Say something. ”
“ I’m coming over now. ”
Chuck hung up the phone, walking back to his bedroom. He grabbed money from his wallet, throwing it down on the bed before beginning to get dressed.
“ Don’t be here when I get back. ”

Chuck arrived at your townhouse within twenty minutes. His hair was messy, his clothes more casual than his regular suit and tie. Chuck’s hand raised, his fist wrapping against your front door.
You wandered down from your bedroom, coming down to the door in a small silk nightgown, lined with matching lace. You opened your door, revealing a disheveled Chuck standing on your front steps.
“ I love you. ”
Chuck stepped forward, wrapping his arms around your waist, his face coming down to hide against your neck.
“ Let me come in, let me stay the night. ”
You only gave a simple nod, bringing Chuck up to your bedroom. He laid down beside you in your large bed, both of you slid under the covers, wrapping each other in a tight embrace. Chuck held you tight like you would be taken from him in the night.
You laid together that night, vulnerable, but in love.
