Professor Francisco “Chico Lagarto” Azevedo recently travelled back to Rio de Janeiro to visit family and train under his master 6th degree BJJ Black Belt Luiz Paulo.  While in Brazil, Professor Chico was awarded his 2nd degree.  Congratulations Professor Chico on this huge accomplishment!

In September 2014, we moved into our current training space and in this time we have seen our club grow and my students continue to progress in their BJJ journey. We recently held our mid-year graduation ceremony. Congratulations to all of my students who have earned new stripes on their belts or have been promoted to a new belt in the last couple promotions. You have all worked hard and I am proud of you all. It's been a great year in terms of students who have been promoted to a new belt rank. Including our affiliate team Lizard BJJ Invermere we have 7 new blue belts and one new purple belt! Congratulations to Dean Kastner on achieving his purple belt. Congratulations to Erwin Virtusio, Eb Chan, Karsten Idland, Adam Lacasse, Evan Solty, Travis Tagg, and Alexander Munoz on achieving their blue belt ranking. We don’t have all of our medallists in this picture - congratulations to Team Lizard BJJ for an amazing showing at the CBJJF 2015 Alberta Provincial Championships.  There were many gold and silvers in our haul and quite a few competitors who were multiple medallists, competing in Gi, No Gi, and Absolute.  We are a small club and yet we were able to take 3rd place in the team results for Adult Gi.  I am very proud of our team!  Congratulations to everyone who competed.

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | 2014 CBJJF Rocky Mountain Classic - RESULTS

Team Lizard has now competed in 3 BJJ tournaments in the past 6 weeks, and the accomplishments continue to accumulate. Congratulations to our team members who competed in the 2014 Rocky Mountain Classic held on October 4. Although we had a small number of entrants for this event, our team still managed to win a Gold medal and 4 Silver medals.

Congratulations to Ray Bell and Morgan McCaffrey who represented us in the black belt and blue belt divisions respectively.  A special thanks to all Team Lizard members who came out to support and cheer on those who competed. Osssss!

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | Rodrigo de Brito Submission Series

Congratulations to Team Lizard's Rodrigo de Brito for his bronze medal performance in the Gi at the September 20, 2014 Submission Series held at MMA University in Calgary, Alberta.  This was Rodrigo's first ever BJJ competition.  We are proud of you Rodrigo!

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | Evan Solty Submission Series

Congratulations to Team Lizard's Evan Solty for a championship performance in the Gi at the September 20, 2014 Submission Series held at MMA University in Calgary, Alberta.  A white belt, Evan even dominated a blue belt opponent in one of his matches!  Wow!  Congrats Evan on winning gold!

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | Karsten Idland Submission Series

Congratulations to Team Lizard's Karsten Idland for a great performance at the September 20, 2014 Submission Series held at MMA University in Calgary, Alberta.  Karsten won Gold and was undefeated in all 3 of his matches in No-Gi, submitting all of his opponents, and won the Bronze with a 2-1 match record in Gi.  In his 2 Gi victories, Karsten also submitted his opponents.  Great performance Karsten!

Our FIRST class in our NEW space starts tonight (September 9) at 730 pm!  Our expanded class schedule starts next week.  Come down for a free drop-in class and learn Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu!

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | We have MOVED! | Calgary Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

BIG NEWS! We are pleased to announce that we have relocated our training space to a bigger facility. As a result of this move we will be making some schedule changes and will soon be offering additional class / open mat opportunities as well as an expanded children's class program. Our new location is at 2830 Morley Trail NW. For the week of September 8, we will have adult classes on Tuesday and Thursday starting 730 pm BOTH days. We are still in the process of setting up the new facility but we might also have open mat on Friday at 630 pm (to be confirmed). Class schedules for the remainder of September and the rest of 2014 are in the process of being finalized. Once our signage and final touches are ready, we will have a Grand Opening party, likely in October. But we will start training in the new space starting Tuesday September 9. - Professor Chico

Lizard Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu | New Venum No-Gi Fight Gear In Stock

Hi everyone, our new Venum no-gi shirts are in stock and are a nice complement to our Lizard BJJ / Venum fight shorts.  The new shirts sport the Venum branding on the front as well as the Lizard BJJ logo, and "Team Lizard" on the back across the shoulders.  If you are interested in purchasing a shirt please contact Professor Chico.
