Cleopatra Enters Rome (Part One)
Infamous for being the costliest film ever made* and for showcasing Elizabeth Taylor at the peak of her beauty and scandalous adulterous life.
Taylor plays Cleopatra, of course in one of the grandest, most spectacular films ever made. Her iconic entrance into Rome is so lenghty - and breathtaking- that it is split over several posts, to better appreaciate the beauty and craftmaship of every scene, costume and prop.
Rex Harrison (as Ceasar) swathed in royal purple exchanges words with Hume Cronyn (as Sosigenes) as they wait for Cleopatra`s arrival.
They were in for a shock.
*Cleopatra (1963) directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz is still among the most expensive films ever made, although not in the first place.
