i know im quite easy to entertain but like wow that season finale was beautiful and freaky and CATHARTIC.

lestat is a character who’s problems are so heavyhanded it’s almost absurd. this whole season was a serious acid trip of him trying to cover it up ! and seem normal !

he easily became one of the most human characters to me because of the depths of his insecurity, like the truth that he has NEVER let himself believe he was truly deserving of love. like yeah man we have all been there but he’s been doing it for 200 years.

i dont even know anymore just enzo and nicki and PAUL like wow he’s facing the fuck out of his ghosts of Christmas past. i cried.

Just watched the finale for The Vampire Lestat, and honestly I don’t get what everyone’s problem with it is. To each their own, but I thought the entire season was really good. To be fair, I haven’t read the books (although I’ve heard they go really left field at some point). Plus I’m a huge fan of nonlinear storytelling and mixing perspectives/media so this season was right up my alley.

The season is not afraid to be surreal and narratively/visually play with Lestat’s struggle with the story he wants to believe/tell and what’s actually happened/happening. It’s a much more grandiose version of what we see with Louis’ own struggle with the same idea. The brooding intimacy of the interview setting is completely stripped in favor of pomp and circumstance — which to me encapsulates the core differences of Louis and Lestat as characters. I thought this season was incredibly stylized and creative.

Obviously this season raises more questions than it answers, but I feel like it serves as more of a bridge between Interview with the Vampire as a stand alone story and IWTV as part of The Vampire Chronicles. I’m very excited to see where the series goes in the future.

the very idea that someone could sit down, watch lestat puke while still trying to rationalize the abuse, have a full blown panic attack over it when louis yells that there is no rationalizing this, and then go say it's consensual...that it's not portrayed as abuse...insane...

i also think a lot of people aren't really getting the *point* of louis' reaction. it's extremely harsh and judgmental and completely insensitive to the fact that lestat is being abused, but that is the purpose of it. the entire season is lestat attempting to justify it. this is louis saying that you cannot justify it. there is no rational way to justify that happening. and when lestat has a breakdown over it, they both sort of realize at the same time that this means lestat has been suffering incestuous sexual abuse for 200 fucking years.

it overwhelms lestat, and it clicks for louis. that's when he changes tacts, when he comforts lestat, when he gently tries to help him admit that it's been abuse all along in the bar. it's so realistic, such a necessary sequence.

i think there is unfortunately a knee jerk reaction people have to abuse like this, esp when it's mother/son, where it's just "gross", "weird", or "sick", as louis says. where the child is not taken to be a victim, somehow. i think the show is very honest in having this be louis' initial reaction, until he sees lestat's panic, until he properly thinks it through for a second. and then he gets it, and he feels horrible about what he said. again, it's just all very realistic and bittersweet. everyone involved did an incredible job with this storyline imo.

iwtv seasons one and two was like being tucked into bed and read a heartbreaking story by Louis du pointe du lac. The Vampire Lestat is like your blackout drunk uncle trying to tell you an anecdote at a family gathering

i love yuna hollander so, so much. can you imagine seeing your boy grow up and all you want is to protect him, you see the sensitivity inside him and how he closes himself off, stiff walls, to protect himself, for the crime of being different. he throws his life into hockey, every minute, and he’s hungry for control and precision if it means he can prove himself. and because you love him more than anything else you throw your life into it too. you hep him build himself up and you want to protect him, but you also want him to succeed, and you see how everyone wants to turn him into a commodity, a product, putting him at the front lines, but if it means he gets what he wanted all his life then it’s worth it. still you try to protect him, and you take it upon yourself to get there first. he gets better and better until he’s one of the best, maybe the best ever, but he won’t drink wine or eat white rice if it means he could be even a little slower tomorrow. he won’t allow himself indulgence. he’s never late. he doesn’t bring anyone home, he fills his empty apartments with beautiful chairs and pillows because someone told him he should. you want him to suck the marrow out of life, all he can get, but you don’t want to push him. you’re scared he thinks something is wrong with him, that he’s anything but your flesh and blood and your whole life.

and then he comes to your front door one day, with ilya rozanov, the man he’s hated for the past decade, and he says he’s in love with him. the love of his life, maybe. they tap their feet together under the table and your son comes down from the edge because this man rubs his back with so much gentleness and kisses him. this man that you thought you understood from afar: violent, angry, playboy, now he looks at your son with the love in his eyes you’ve always known he deserved. your son is the happiest you’ve ever seen him. and he has been hiding this for years because he thought you would push him away and it breaks your heart. i tried but i can’t help it. it’s your biggest fear crashing down onto you, that you’ve failed in your one job, the one you put upon yourself as soon as his little hands reached for yours the first time. all you have wanted for him is to love and be loved and he was scared to even give himself that. what can you do now but hold him in your arms and wipe his tears and ask him to forgive you. your cardigan around your arms because even when he’s scared, he doesn’t want you to be cold. what is there to do but make dinner for him and ilya rozanov again and again, and to fight for him now too, because quickly you sense that he has not had a mother in a long time. you have known it since you saw them drive away in the evening light. here is another person to take care of, because he sees your son the way he is, which so many people cannot, and because of this you already love him, and he is yours now too.

mind you after kali escaped the lab she did NOT have a kindhearted sheriff to take her in she had to camp in a warehouse and find community in the obviously underground punk and queer scene in chicago.. she was the most tortured fucking character in that show and one of the only poc’s and so obviously she had to die. alone. in the labs she was tortured in.

kali you are the strongest and most selfless character in the show i’m so sorry for what happened to you.
