My hotd 'hot' take? SOME of you who want Rhaenyra and Alicent to viscerally hate each other, with no place for nuanced feelings, (bc of what happened to their children/grandchildren) and for Rhaenyra to fully mistrust Alicent (bc she's ready to sacrifice a child for another instead of being unconditionally loving 'perfect' mother like her) are reducing these characters to their motherhood and erasing all other aspects of their existence that are tied to this relationship.
I will not elaborate.
One of the many perils of having a juicy ginormous brain is that sometimes there’s a character that’s really popular, but everyone else loves them in a badass-with-a-heart-of-gold way and you love them in a pathetic-awful-person way. so it feels like you’re a fan of an unpopular character except there’s tons of fans they’re just fans of a character that doesn’t really exist. it’s crazy how grrm wrote the first woke beauty and the beast where a hot guy falls in love with an ugly woman and people will bend over backwards still to say brienne is actually attractive. like no she’s not and it’s not more feminist to say she is 👍

What bothers me the most about Armand's arc this season is his characterization as a premeditated schemer. It turns him into the cunning, one-note villain the writers and cast kept insisting he wasn't. The concept of him demanding an apology from Louis and genuinely believing Louis owed him one is fine. Although that wasn't their dynamic in the books, the change does bother me because why transplant that dynamic onto Loumand when Lesmand is right there to explore and deepen? Plus, Armand has already done enough to Louis, and the optics of the situation do matter, especially if you're going to have Louis give him a sincere moment of connection and frame it as earned and somewhat heartwarming.
But if you were going to do that, I think a much better approach would've been to have Armand come to Louis with his own apology while expecting one in return, only to become angry and violent on impulse when Louis refused to give it to him. It would've made the point about how dangerous, delusional, unstable, and sadistic he can be without betraying the characterization the show had already established.
Because almost every time Armand has done something violent or harmful, it's been impulsive. San Francisco was driven by emotional weariness, anger, and impulse. His lie about the extent of his participation in the trial, and about saving Louis, was a spur-of-the-moment decision when he saw an opportunity and seized it, not something he'd been planning beforehand. The only thing he planned carefully over a long period of time was the trial, but that wasn't his idea in the first place. Someone else came up with it, and he went along with it.
A person who is constantly in survival mode, who stays on sinking boats because they're too afraid that if they jump and swim they'll never find land, only an endless sea that will drown them, just isn't someone who takes initiative as a master planner. They aren't the kind of person who orchestrates something as complex as the entire Regina scheme or constructs an elaborate torture scenario. They'd improvise it instead, just like they did in San Francisco.
Up until this season, the show consistently characterized Armand as someone whose manipulation and violence were primarily reactive, adaptive, opportunistic, and rooted in survival. This season shifts him toward a more proactive, long-term scheming role, and to me that feels like a meaningful change in characterization rather than a natural extension of what came before. I also think it's a less interesting and less psychologically complex version of the character.

My way by Olivia Rodrigo is Loumand from Armand’s perspective but in like a pathetic try hard way ♡ Armand you are never beating the rebound allegations
That One Scene In Don’t Be Afraid Just Start The Tape. So as I was writing this post I realised the train inspector was standing over me so I took my headphones out and apologised for not seeing him and he went “no worries, I was just giving you a chance to finish :)” did he think I was texting or do you guys think he ships Loumand. I think he probably ships Loumand.

Remember NOLA Louis? I love NOLA Louis. Remember how we used to run.
no im still on it. they really were like “yeah <3 lestat is going to go to heaven <3” meanwhile claudia is in literal hell…?????
I haven’t watched the finale yet but. It’s not all vampires in hell? it’s based on moral character? And LESTAT deserves heaven more than CLAUDIA????
average tvl watching experience
AND ANOTHER THING. To me Louis’ character arc was always about letting go of shame. Shame for being gay, being black, being a vampire, being a victim, being manipulated. And when the Regina thing happened I thought okay, his shame over Claudia’s death is making him cause more harm, so he needs to let go of it. Only for Claudia’s ghost to blame (almost only) Louis for everything, and have not one shred of love for him? I can see her being angry, of course, but also sad. Sad because she thought it was you and me, me and you, and then he trusted the word of armand over her, both causing and after her death. Making it so that lestat, fucking Lestat was “always her favourite” is so dumb. And she canonically lied about the train scene to, what, her own fucking diary? Thats the most blatant retconning I’ve ever seen. They clearly wrote Lestat to be someone whose own experiences with abuse had made him abusive, then this season decided that actually he did nothing wrong and Louis was a liar/idiot the whole time. Fuck off.
I'm gonna become even more obnoxious about defending ldpdl now. He did nothing wrong. Louis de kind du lac. Louis de brave du lac. Louis de empathetic du lac.
