This beautifully embroidered costume has been used as both a robe and as a dress in several productions. It was first created by costume designer Andrea Galer for the 1999 film version of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park, where it was worn on Victoria Hamilton as maria Bertam.

The costume was used again in 2008 on Emma Pierson as Fanny Dorrit in Little Dorrit, and again in 2009 on Carice van Houten as Maria Oldknow in From Time to Time.  It was seen again most recently in the 2013 film Austenland on Keri Russell as Jane Hayes
