Blackness as the Second Person, Meara Sharma interviews Claudia Rankine (via english2367blog)
This shows the importance of speaking out and having your voice heard for different situations. For many of the issues thats oppression causes, using words and language is one of the only ways in which an important message can be put across. The way that Rankine uses language is different from others, and that is what makes her writing more intriguing and involved.

This episode made a point on how deeply some people depend on God and religion to answer prayers, but this quote might be showing that people need to figure things out for themselves and not rely on their religion to fix all of their problems. If everything was fixed by God then there wouldn't be struggles and triumphs, which is a huge part of human existence.

This shows how there are people out there who will ignore ongoing issues just to avoid dealing with them or are completely unaware, which is just making situations worse.

This points out the stereotype of black males and females where males should be the dominant partner in the relationship and that if they date a black woman that they won’t be. It is trying to show that others may think it is unusual to see a black male who isn’t a rapper, athlete, abusive, or extremely dominant, but there are many black males out there who are successful without those stereotypes.
