I’m sick of making posts like this pretty much every time VIXX goes abroad, but I’m frustrated by behavior I’ve been seeing, so here we are. Not that my posting this will do anything, but I can hope.
Do you know what those people who follow, photograph, and film celebrities in their private life are called in Korea? Sasaengs. Sasaengs are hated by other (actual) fans and (in diligent companies) get blacklisted from participating in fan events.
Does VIXX (or anyone) being in a foreign country make the above listed behavior appropriate? No.
Should fans in foreign countries be extra careful so as to not make a bad name for their entire fandom and so that VIXX (in this case) has a great time and wants to return? Yes.
Should you follow VIXX in their free time? No. But other people are doing it too, so it’s okay, right? No. Should you touch them without consent? No. Should you scream at them out of a concert-type setting? No. Should you photograph or film them outside of official schedules without their consent? No.
Is this somehow unclear? How could there be any reason whatsoever that would make not treating fellow humans (who you supposedly love) with common courtesy and respect acceptable?
I’m tired of tiptoeing around this behavior. Feel free to leave the fandom if you do this. I wouldn’t call you a fan anyway.
(For probably everyone who actually read all of this, please excuse my use of “you” as it was merely for emphasis. To all the Starlights who make me proud to be a part of this fandom: you da best! ❤)
P.S. If you happen to see them while you are out or something, that doesn’t make you bad. That’s a happy coincidence! The moment you harass them (yell, film, etc.) makes the situation unacceptable. Also, following them to their hotel or waiting there is on the list of bad behavior.
