Hiii sorry to bother you and please ignore this if it's too much to ask. I really want to get into your mota fics but I have no way of accessing the show. So I'm kinda lost as to their lore and the characters. So if you don't mind could you explain some of it? Like a quick lesson of their relationship? Of what parts of their personalities you are drawn to, to help me get to know them and why you like writing for the pairing? i mean basically mota is a ww2 yaoi show about b-17 pilots flying missions in europe. but two of the protagonists are john egan and gale cleven. bucky and buck. they met in 1940 at flight school in texas and when john saw gale, he said, “hey your name is buck now” (john’s nickname was already bucky). like, he literally just named gale….the same name as him. okay diva!! they went to officer school together, they’re both majors. they’re best friends but you watch them on screen and it’s like, did anyone get the memo that they’re just friends or is this supposed to be played like a love story because john constantly is yearning so loudly and alternately looking like he is bending gale into a pretzel in his mind and gale is looking at john like he doesn’t even believe a man like him could possibly exist

gale has no vices—doesn’t drink, smoke, or gamble. john does. gale has a steady girlfriend, john has a new girl every week. they’re very yin and yang, but they match each other’s freak like you would not believe. john is loud and goofy and gale seems quiet and reserved (and he is for sure shy) but he’s absolutely insane. and john knows it. for example, gale is landing his plane in greenland during an insane crosswind and the tower recommends he circle around and gale is like “no❤️” and floors it. competent as hell but also damn. relax.

so they’re in england together in 1943 now trying to get through this war. trading off taking care of each other. john is air exec which means he’s not flying missions and he hates it, he wants to be in the air with his men. what does gale do? he gets john demoted and doesn’t tell him. john sees the letter on their CO’s desk and calls gale out on it. and gale is like “you don’t gotta get me any flowers” (literally he says this). gale lets john touch him freely. john squeezes his cheeks at the pub and no one blinks except for the RAF who then throw out a slur. sometimes john talks for gale and sometimes gale tugs on john’s leash (but like barely bc again, he is crazy and also loves john’s attention). he is always laughing at john’s jokes. im like girl get up. anyway they just balance each other so well. there’s so much love there. they give each other the space to be who they are without apology and that’s amore

i also go cuckoo bananas over the fact that gale says to john that he reminds gale of his FATHER who is a drunken gambler. like ok daddy issues dot com. imagine being in love with a man who is just like your daddy…freud is dancing in his grave this very second! but then there’s the war!! the repression! gale’s warped concept of masculinity that he performs so poorly and john’s absolute recklessness with his own life!! it’s all so very delicious

Bucky winning those bikes for him and Gale is still the most romantic shit in the world by the way in case you were wondering. Like hey my best friend whom I love more dearly than anything else in the whole of existence is coming to face some of the most unspeakable horrors known to man. And I can’t do anything about that and I hate it. But I can win him a bicycle. I can do this one little thing to make the war easier on him by getting him this bicycle. And he might never say thank you and he won’t ever have to because that’s not what Bucky expects or wants. He just wants Gale to have a bicycle and he’s going to win it for him.
