Sending Secure Messages From Outlook to Anyone
Lockbin.com is a secure messaging service that simplifies communicating with your patients and clients. Lockbin was built from the ground-up on a FIPS validated cryptolibrary, with all user data on the server encrypted.
An add-in for MS Outlook conveniently brings the Lockbin web services to your Windows desktop. From inside Outlook, you can compose secure email messages and files, email secure requests for information, and receive responses from your website securely.
The Lockbin Add-in is designed for MS Outlook 2017, 2013, 2010 and 2007. It is free, and can be downloaded from Lockbin.com.
Lockbin does not require recipients to download any special software. Strong encryption and a secure TLS connection allows recipients to conveniently access your message and file attachments over a web browser. Lockbin forces the recipients browser to use only the strongest encryption, rejecting requests for insecure connections, and utilizing perfect forward secrecy.
Customizing Lockbin’s Landing Pages
When you use Lockbin to send a secure message to someone, they will follow the link you give them to Lockbin.com. The page they arrive at may be customized with your logo and text. Customizing the landing page is a sign of professionalism for your business and gives recipients of your messages a greater sense of security and familiarity.
This image shows how to customize your landing page from your Lockbin premium account.
After logging in, click “Landing Page” from the Premium Account toolbar. You can attach a logo and change the text that will be displayed to recipients.
Afterwards, use the preview to see what your landing page will look like to recipients of your messages.
If you have any questions about using Lockbin’s custom land pages, contact support at lockbin.com. We are always happy to help.

Status update on reported issues
Some users reported an issue when uploading files. Files that were greater than 6MB were hanging. This issue has been resolved, and files up to 20 MB may be attached to emails.
Some users reported an issue with sending emails while using the IE9 browser. We are investigating this and hope to apply a fix in a day or two. This is a widely reported issue that is common to Internet Explorer 9, but without a single point of resolution. If you experience this problem, the workaround is to use Lockbin with Firefox, Chrome, IE8, or any other browser. No other browsers have this issue; only IE9.
Lockbin featured as "an excellent web app you might not know about."
Thanks to our friends at Webtun.com for the article featuring Lockbin.com as an "excellent" web app that you may not know about. We appreciate you helping us spread the word! Here's the article, in Russian.
Lockbin select as "Top 10" online service for encrypting messages
Lockbin, the free online email encryption service, was recently selected for inclusion in the "Top 10 Online Services for encrypting text messages" over at the Technically Personal blog. Read it here.
The writer noted that, "(Lockbin) was quite popular when it was introduced but had its own share of problems later on. It is still useful to encrypt the message and mail it directly using the form available."
We wont' disagree that the site went through a period of neglect, up to the point when it was purchased from its original develoeprs by Encryptomatic LLC. Since then the service has stablized, and the backend technology was redeveloped to add more security (AES-256 encryption). A Lockbin desktop application was introduced this month to make sending through Lockbin more convenient. An API for developers was introduced and some new products featuring Lockbin integration should be available soon.
Today Lockbin remains popular with users, and has more daily users than ever. A very high percentage of its users (nearly 1/4) are repeat users of Lockbin.
While Lockbin remains as popular as ever with users, its true that the site went through a period of many reviews and writeups in 2007. You're only new once, and now by web 2.0 standards, Lockbin is an old established site. We remain committed to making Lockbin a useful site for sharing important information long into the future, even when "security" is no longer sexy to write about.
Thanks for the write up Technically Personal! We're glad to be #10 on your list. We'll work hard, and next year we'll make a run for your #1 space.
If we build it, will you come?
This week we have been kicking around the idea of building a Lockbin desktop application. It would allow users to enter a message and attach files, right from their computer. The idea behind this app would be the convenience and performance of a local application, hopefully cutting down on your time to enter a message.
We would probably build it in Java (J2E) for portability to Android and Blackberry phones.
Version 1 would allow secure uploading of messages and files to the Lockbin server.
Version 2 of this application would likely include some features to allow you to retrieve messages directly from Lockbin.
What do you think? How should a Lockbin desktop application function? What would be the most important things it should do for you? Would you use it?
The next time you use Lockbin, please take a moment to answer our survey. We need to know what you're thinking. We at Lockbin are in the odd position of seeing our user traffic grow quickly (so we must be doing something right), but also not really knowing who our users are. This of course, is the entire point of Lockbin - privacy. But its murder on development and customer knowledge who crave user feedback to set our strategic direction. Be a friend -- tell us what you think so we can get better.
