empathetic sentence starters @lockedfighter sent: â you're so strong for everything you've been through. â
NORMALLY, HE MIGHT appreciate the words of admiration and accept them as being utterly true. zack has been through a lot, so much more than most, and far more than anyone would've expected him to ( least of all himself ). but as the speech reaches him in tifa's own soft voice, it almost garners a wince in response, despite the sad smile that accompanies it.
â at least i chose this. joining SOLDIER, working my way up to the top â i had to know it was gonna be dangerous. not that it would end up this complicated, but... â
if he'd expected to grieve his coworkers, it would have been that they'd died at the hands of the enemy; not that angeal would fall by his very own blade. not a sword swung by unrestrained madness, either â zack had been in full control of himself, just not the context.
if he'd expected to be hunted down for months in the middle of nowhere, he'd have reasonably assumed that it would been at the hands of conspirators, of rebel groups, of wutai spies and rogue machines â not that he'd be pursued till near death by his own employer, the people he'd fought for and beside for so many years of his life. the ones he'd committed himself to at the naive age of thirteen ( too young to have signed so many lengthy contracts, the legal jargon making his head spin ).
it turns out that the context makes all the difference, and that the unpredictable outcomes were the most difficult to prepare for.
but tifa... she'd been dragged into this, kicking and screaming. none of the residents of nibelheim had signed up for what had happened that night at the reactor; tifa's father hadn't signed any waivers to consent being slaughtered by sephiroth. it's easy for zack to become depressed when dwelling on how his life has unfolded thus far, but compared to the true innocents whose lives had been torn apart through no input of their own, he doesn't hesitate to quit his moping.
that smile, albeit somewhat forced, becomes wider and touches his eyes. time to crawl out of his self-pity.
â did you forget? SOLDIERs are supposed to be strong. i guess all that training has been put to good use â that's one thing to thank shinra for, at least. â
if it weren't for shinra, he'd never have met cloud, tifa, aerith, kunsel. but would it have been better that way, for everyone? useless to imagine; shinra had been set in motion years before they were even born, and the world would almost certainly be a better place had they not shown up with their insatiable greed and relentless propaganda. and if he hadn't joined SOLDIER, if it hadn't been him standing there watching it unravel, it would've been some other sap lured in by the promise of glory. another poor soul, living his life. maybe someone more corrupt. suppose this way is for the best outcome they could've hoped for, in the end.
THE YOUNGER REMAINED SILENT FOR A MOMENT , listening to his words â- she briefly knew what he had been through ; the t r a u m a s that had unfolded in his life , the loss he had been forced to endure . agonizing pain that no human should ever have to experience . standing awkwardly to the side , eyes averted ( downcast ) .. the ever familiar ache within her breastbone causing the her breathing to hitch in her throat . how did she help ? how could she stand there and attempt to soothe the pain in his heart when she couldn't even do so with her own ?
the constant struggle to lock it away in her heart . a fitting story .
ruby hues flickered to study handsome features , the courage to finally gaze in his direction overwhelming her senses . the distance between them too far as she t e n t a t i v e l y stepped closer , nimble fingers delicately touching his forearm as an ( attempted ) source of comfort . a man whom could be deemed as dangerous from his talents , his power â- yet , was the epitome of a puppy . the most kindhearted person she had ever had the pleasure of meeting .
watching his internal struggle , she craned her neck to capture those mako infused eyes , the ever so slight curvature of natural pout forming , another attempt of soothing . â there's the training you put your body through , yes .. â that part was true . yet his mental capacity to c o n t i n u e through a multitude of hardships was what truly impressed her â- not that he needed her acknowledgement but the sentiment was there , â but you have to also admire the will it takes . none of us ever ask for such cruelty to happen .. â voice suddenly hoarse as she trailed off ..
her mind focused to those she too had lost but it wouldn't be helpful in the slightest to bring more pain and heartbreak into this conversation . instead she pulled away and slipped behind the bar . alcohol wasn't exactly an ideal solution but sometimes it did dull the uneasy gnawing within ones soul . tifa wasn't much of a drinker herself but some nights she would find herself pouring a glass to help numb the creeping and intrusive thoughts .
â anything specific or would you like me to surprise you ? â the familiar chirp in her tone , the cheery façade now spoken with p r a c t i c e d ease .
taking a bottle of rosĂ© wine for herself ( no intention of drinking the entire thing ) â- light & fruity , a refreshing blend needed for a taxing day . old friend in her company and oh , she had missed him . she awaited his drink choice before nodding her head to gesture to one of the booths . business would not be opening tonight . seventh heaven was closed .
TIFA LIFEGUARD SKIN
esthcimâ :
Hope felt himself pulling a face, despite his best efforts not to. A feeling of guilt sprung up quickly at the idea that he had made a tense situation even more difficult, despite his best intentions not to. (What was it Sazh once said? âThe road to ruin is paved with good intentions?â Something like that.)Â
âDonât worry about it,â he said in a rush, waving it away with a hand. He wasnât wired for clearing the air - awkward moments were best forgotten about. â⊠we know where we are though, donât weâŠ?â âOh, please say we arenât lostâŠâ
the moment she heard his words, she felt her stomach drop a little. part of her wished she could lie to him and say she knew exactly where they were but truth be told, she really didnât. it certainly hadnât been intentional to get lost but with little sense of direction in an unknown place, she didnât have too much faith in her own abilities.
â i wouldnât say weâre lost... â she offered him a small smile, tilting her head ever so slightly hoping that it would ease some of the tensions surrounding them in that moment. â maybe a little off course but we can get back to it! â
sunpierceâ :
( â ) watching the other move at high speeds and deliver heavy blows with no hesitation is quite the sight. how the swordsman wishes to sharpen his martial arts skills just a bit. â i could say the same to you, though hand-to-hand is where iâm a bit rusty. â
â i could say the same when it comes to physical weapons... â she chuckled as she stood her ground before turning her attention to him as she quickly adjusted her gloves at her wrists. â maybe we could teach each other? â
gospeliaâ :
sheâs seen all sorts of people. in her line of work, it was unavoidable. all sorts of men â rugged men, burly men, men who had no respect, men who had respect, and also women â women who were ready to defend their turf, women who cared and protected their children and othersâ when it mattered, women who were ready to stand their ground. there were also men and women in suits, women and children, men who have died due to disease, women who could not be cured.
and for all sorts of people, sometimes, their own homes arenât a safe haven. bars were. although aerith did not frequent them â sheâs only ever been to two, this one would be her second â she understood why.
â i donât get many women visiting. â
â  i drink too!  well⊠sometimes.  water,  mostly.  but i do enjoy the occasional cocktail.  only rarely though â itâs  very very rare treat for myself. â  her lips stretched into a beaming smile,  and yet,  she could feel her hands;  they were cold.  a blend of residue anxiety even after the men had left,  and for new conversation.
aerith wrings her hands and leans forward, Â brings them upward and above the table, Â leaning on her elbows. Â the coziness of the bar offered more than comfort, Â it was a reprieve. Â Â the womanâs smile was heart - warming, Â a display of welcoming and friendliness â in spite of midgarâs industrial fatigue, Â from the dystopian haze that the city offered those above and below the plate.
she stood and patted her skirt down.  â iâm from sector 5.  lower midgar. y'know â the slums. â  approaching the bar,  she decided to pick a seat a little closer to the barmaid, and extended her hand.  â  iâm aerith. whatâs your name? â but what sheâs really asking is,  i would love to get to know you.
there was something really inviting about the other, & the brightest of smiles formed on tifaâs lips as she tucked some hair behind her ear. upon hearing that she did enjoy the occasional cocktail here and there, she chuckled before grabbing her shaker and quickly making the crimson concoction she had served up many a time. a house favourite. pouring the liquid into a glass and sliding it over the surface of the wooden counter ( happy that the other had chosen to take a seat there so they would be able to talk a little more ), she tilted her head ever so slightly to the side and watched her with those doe like hues. â this is the cosmos canyon! i guess you could say itâs a special, a lot of people tend to get it... â she leaned in ever so slightly with a playful expression tainting her features --------- warmth lacing her tone. â itâs on the house! enjoy! â
as soon as she noticed the other extended her hand, the barmaid was quick to return the gesture --------- leather clad appendage reaching forwards and gently but firmly grasping the females in a polite handshake. â itâs lovely to meet you, aerith. iâm tifa! isnât it funny how we live quite close in a way but so far? â she knew the slums were big. the city of midgar was a giant in itself but sector five was only a little bit away yet she had never seen the brunette before. â what brings you all the way here to sector 7? â there were quite the ruffians over here but then again, she guessed that was everywhere. there were many a times where she was a little afraid to walk back to her little apartment up the road by herself & she was more than capable enough of handling any tough situation. but that was merely human nature, not many people actively sought out danger unless they were part of the wrong crowd. it did make her wonder even more about the female in front of her though. such a pretty woman, such a gentle presence & by her clothing, she looked as though she took care of herself, that was just a quiet observation though. ruby optics locked on emerald gaze and she held the stare for a moment before the corners of her lips curved upwards. â so what is it that you do for a living? â
donât mind me, just sobbing at mine & @skyeyesâ weekly talk about the perfection of zack fair & tifa lockhart â„

The glass bottle was emptied in the blink of an eye; he wasnât eager to have a potion, but he could not refuse. He was not in the exact position to, actually; more than physical pain, it was a lost bet against himself, but to shake off that thought was incredibly simple as the familiar, typical taste of potion pervaded his mouth.  â Physically ? Of course, and itâll be thanks to your care tooâ â the blondâs pride be damned, he smiled at her apprehension and tentatively moved the hand she had once again carefully observed. Now, had he hurt one or both his legs instead, he might not have looked or sounded that particularly optimistic about his recovery. â Iâm pretty sure this was the same spot I almost broke way back as a child, once⊠â  he lifted his gaze, eyes moving as a dart from left to right, in search of that peculiar memory. Nah, nothing. He eyed the bandages again, then:  â Eheh~ I still couldnât ask for a better âpatch-up workâ here⊠you sure know how to prep a wound like these ! â
there was a small chuckle emanating from between rosy tiers ------- if there was always one thing she admired about tidus, it was the fact that even in the dullest of situations, he was a bright light. the smile never once leaving his lips even when he had been injured. listening carefully to him as she cleared up the first aid kit, her eyes widened and she looked over at him with amusement dancing across her features. â sounds like you were in the wars a lot when you were a kid, huh? â playful tone lacing her voice as she sat back and eyed the bandages herself. she had to admit that she was pretty impressed with her handiwork. at his words, she couldnât help but chuckle before nodding her head. â i guess you could say i have had enough practice over the years. â especially now that she was the mother figure to two children, they were always getting into scraps & had a new bruise every other day.

â I donât think it works like that, but I can tryâŠMAYBE. â Â
amusement danced in her eyes as she looked over at him before leaning back against one of the booths and nodding her head. â youâre right. he does look up to you a lot though. â

Shouldnât be so exhausting to heal ââ the last of her regenerations. NEXT TIME, ITâS LIGHTS OUT â at least for a while. âCan heal this body,â she answers, gesturing the form she inhabits. And ONLY this body. ( the opposite of a healer, they think. dead thing walking. but thatâs okay. ) They push themselves to sit up. âNot â others.â Â
she could see how exhausted the other was and that made her worried as she looked down at her before looking around and realising they needed to get to safety before anything else attacked. running a hand through her hair, she stood up before offering her hand. â do you think you can stand? â
taciturnrebelâ :
âBeating me once doesnât mean shit.â  I canât feel my arms or my legs, and my face is questionable right now. Wonder if she can teach me any of that someday when my body isnât half-dead.
â you annoyed about that? â there was a teasing tone in her voice as she cant her head to the side momentarily ------- at the end of the day, it was only a friendly spar but because they were both fighters, it was nice to go full pelt.Â
reppin-avalancheâ :
Barret would one day have to answer for his past transgressions and stained hands in this bloody war, knowing and accepting that made him a better soldier.
Privately, the gunman had no qualms displaying affection for Tifa. He had strong feelings for her and the utmost respect for what sheâs done for him and Marlene. Protecting her physically and mentally at all cost was his mission.
A smile tugged his lips once her tears subsided.â Thatâs the Tifa I like to see.â He caressed her shoulder. For such a strong man he had such a gentle touch.
âYeah, I remember, Teef. Donât trip about it. I gotcha. You need anythinâ else?â He would keep her company if she needed it.
while she was exhausted, she didnât know if she would be able to sleep now -------- she had cried herself into a headache and as she pursed her lips together and looked up at him when he asked if she needed anything else, she sat back up once more. â as a matter of fact, i think we should get a drink or two. i think i need something to calm my nerves for tomorrowâs mission. â she always got a little antsy beforehand.
there was a sheepish smile upon her lips as she reached for a jacket to keep herself warm and stood up to her full height. the bar was only down the road, it didnât take more than five minutes to get there. grabbing the keys, she jingled them in her hand before heading towards her door.
â maybe we could talk over the plan a little more... â then she realised she would want to keep her head up high with more happier thoughts and the most gentle of smiles formed over her features as she looked up at the male. if there was one thing that would soften up both of them, it was a certain little girl. â or marlene. â
gainsborroâ :
â i can be a pretty good distraction if the going gets tough. although, they might get suspicious .. but who really knows that i am an ancient. besiides .. we are just paying a quick visit. right ? itâll be easy. â sheâd sign her death warrant. famous last words, she thinks.Â
there was a chuckle emanating from rosy tiers as she nodded her head in agreement and placed a finger to her lips in a teasing manner before she hid behind one of the walls and watched out for the security that she knew would be guarding every entry. â where do you think they would have taken him? â an anxiety inducing thought made her think of hojo and she could only hope to all that was good in the world that he wasnât being escorted up there now.
springhealerâ :
EXTERMINATING PESTS has easily become a top favorite of the locals â the infestation of wererats & other monsters that slink around the slums have always been a cause for concern. ( but thatâs why theyâre here. ) vivid eyes catch sight of hasty skittering & SAKURA launches into action with a determined huff.Â
PUNCH, KICK, KICK. SLAM. movements come easy, the metallic gleam turned into a splattering molted crimson as she helped rid the nasty creatures. a look of disgust, but sheâs quick to recover as she shakes her hands out â then her feet.Â
âYou good, TEEF? I think that was all of them.â
becoming a fighter was never something she would have imagined herself doing when she was younger ------- she had always wanted to become a pianist or something along those lines but the sense of pride she felt when she knew she was keeping innocent civilians safe from monsters who would roam the area was more rewarding than she could ever imagine.
sure, it was a little bit of a gruesome task & as she wiped down a bit of the splattered blood and scrunched up her nose, she was snapped out of her reverie by hearing the rosy haired females voice. doe like optics flickered up to meet emerald gaze as she nodded her head and offered a comforting smile.
â we make a great team! do you wanna head back to the bar to clean up? â
sanguinepeccatorumâ :
âIâm sure I shall be fine.â Ever avoiding the true question, never entirely giving a straight answer; Vincent instead focused on taking the medication and sipping the water. He wouldnât have done it if he had not been in the femaleâs company - her caring nature was always useful when attempting to convince him to do something - and if he had been alone it was likely that he would have merely ignored the potentially pending illness - perhaps slept.
âI doubt illness shall stop me-âÂ
nodding her head, she offered him a comforting smile. â i donât doubt that. â he was one of the strongest of the team & the oldest. he was wise. yet there was always a case of worry when any of her comrades got sick, she hated the thought of them suffering and her caring nature had always had that instinct to help no matter what. tucking some hair behind her ear, she watched him for a second before handing him a blanket.
â call me if you need anything else. â

&& she would only pull away upon hearing her friend talk, her request. Chocolate? Could she assist with this? Yes. Was it unexpected? Also yes, but she was aware everyone dealt with pain in their own way. Whatever her friend required, Aerith would do all in her power to assist.        She pulls back just slightly, now looking at her tear stained face. Delicately, she would cup Tifaâs face in her hands, thumb brushing at the tears and loose strands of hair that may be in her way. A soft sigh as she takes in the details of her sadness, and a gentle nod.                  âCome with me, letâs see what we can find.â && She raises from where she sat with her, looks back at her and offers her hand in extension to take. A simple smile to accompany, as she would help her regain balance.Â
âLetâs see whatâs hidden away in the cupboards!â A chime in her voice, positive and upbeat, her attempt to make her friend feel comfort at all times. She steps gingerly away from her friend. Almost afraid to leave her alone for a few moments, she gives a glance back and another smile constant reassurance is what her friend required. Aerith makes quick work of going through the cupboards where the sweet treats were hidden. It usually was full, she didnât indulge in much herself, but it was there should a moment arise.                        âIâve got white, milk or dark⊠Oh â and mint?â her voice is spoken louder as she turns from her friend to give her a full list of the options.
the tender touches and the loving care had tifa feeling like she was at home with her mother all over again -------- that was the vibe aerith gave off. she was so comforting & even though tifa never enjoyed showing any kind of weakness and especially not crying in front of anybody, she felt comfortable to do so in front of the cetra. tilting her head to the side, as she nodded when the other went to go and look in the cupboards, she quietly followed before leaning up against one of the kitchen counters.
â does it sound really childish asking for hot chocolate? â small voice broke through the silence which had come over them but there was now a tiny smile curving at her lips. â my mother used to always make it for me when i was younger -------- â she hadnât spoken much of her mother since she had passed, she found it too hard. but she trusted the brunette enough to allow raw emotions and feelings to come out easily. â i didnât know why it was always so comforting but it helped. â
watching her as she humoured her indulgence, she hummed before pointing towards the milk one. it was better to just go standard.
quietly waiting patiently, she folded her arms over her chest before shifting a little awkwardly on her feet. â hey, aerith? â she shifted forward before carefully wrapping her arms around the other and engulfing her in a gentle but firm embrace. â iâm really glad i met you. really glad. â
