Sound experiment: body transformations

In this experiment I played around with soundscapes that involved recorded sounds of my body which have been transformed through time-stretching processes and granular synthesis techniques to reshape something that is of the organic body into something that is machine-like and unfamiliar.

Research Questions:

How do hook-up apps and self-produced pornographic images offer opportunities for lateral and self-surveillance?

In what ways do people of colour use technology to obscure their race and perform cyber white-washing?

Do cybernetic spaces allow queer people of colour to be liberated from their bodies or do these spaces enforce oppression and isolation, and what are the technosocial determinants that influence this?

How can new media be used to not only construct a performance space, but also be the performers themselves, which critically engage with the evolving culture of sex and its growing relationship to technology?

How does pornographic imagery fragment and disconnect the human body, and is it any different to how our bodies become fragmented day to day?

How can mapping the technological interactions of gay men on platforms such as Grindr communicate the behavioural influences of the technology?
