Quote: "you have the truest heart of anyone I’ve ever known, and the strongest faith in other people, and in that way you are better than I could ever hope to be.”
Clace having Icarus and The Fall themes as a ship mean so much to me you don’t understand
the steadfastness and faith with which Clary loves is extraordinary. I love that she will always keep showing up for the people she cares about.
but also, she won’t take any shit and she won’t let you treat her like filth. that is so so so important. not only for herself but also for Jace, because the ways in which he punishes himself often involve hurting others, but she won’t let him do that. and in turn, I think that forces him to look past his sort of self-centred understanding of his actions in a way that helps him deal with people better over time. it forces him to cope in healthier ways. he has to learn to contextualise the ways in which he responds to the world, think about how these things affect others, understand that no matter how much he hates himself, he needs to allow the people in his life their agency to love him nonetheless.
Clary’s love, as Jace said, really did move the sun and stars for him; I think his entire worldview did indeed shift and expand. there is finally space for compassion and kindness, because his life and actions no longer encompass only himself.
thinking of when she stops Jace from kissing her in CoG because she won’t let him use her as another reason to hate himself. or here, when Jace is distancing himself to punish himself, she insists on staying because she respects herself enough to know that she deserves to decide for herself whether she wants to be with him or not. but she goes about this in such a reassuring, loving way. idk man. I love Clary so much.
