can’t believe y’all are letting this flop
!!!!!!!!!!! Take a look, y’all
what r some tips for newbies that seem obvious but aren't? for example I literally thought barcodes were important for so long lmaooo
lmaooo we've all been there😖
hmm, these are only my opinions (and some pet peeves), so they won't be one size fits all tips. but yeah
don't over-act and draw any attention - i've seen people make a big show out of checking their phone and having a loud fake phone conversation in order to seem natural in a store. i've also seen posts where the op recommends pretending that someone called you to say that a loved one got in a car accident so you can exclaim in horror and rush out of the store. or another post where someone wanted to see if the security towers worked so they "accidentally" took an item too close to the towers to set them off, then ran back into the store like 'omg sorry!!' like, most customers are quiet and minding their own business as they shop, so drawing attention to yourself will only make you memorable and sus imo. it seems to be a newbie thing to overdo the customer act out of nerves
acting too chummy with the SAs. where i live, shoppers are usually silent on their own and only interact with the SAs when approached or if they're having trouble finding something. if an SA greets you at the doorway (rare), they might get a smile or a mumbled hi, but not much more. if you're in a place like this then too much interaction is a bit sus, especially if your nerves make you chirpy. i had a newbie lifter friend who said 'hiiiii!!!!!' every time she entered a store near an SA and it ALWAYS got us sussed😭😭 btw this isn't to say don't be nice to the SAs, but there is such thing as acting too familiar. mimic the customers around you
i guess leaving packaging behind. this ties into the barcode thing, but every newbie lifter does it at some point. it's a red flag that your store has a thief, and we don't want to tip a store off to that
the art of casual lifting and misdirection. i worked at a topshop once and the number one red flag for spotting potential lifters was seeing someone touching merch with their hands but looking everywhere else. i get why ppl do this - when you're stuffing merch into your bag you don't want to be looking straight at it since that's a big tip off. but then you get into the habit of doing that while you're scoping the place out and it looks super sus. look at what your hands are examining like a shopper would, don't let those eyes wander so obviously. if your other hand is busy stuffing merch into your bag that's fine, but your eyes need to be fixed on the decoy merchandise for the misdirection to work
rfids, cut them down the middle to deactivate them. they've got that metal circle, right? they only work when the circle is complete, so slicing them down the middle will stop them from working. it's easy to remember that way imo, but newbies get paranoid and slice the shit out of them, which i totally get. but just breaking the circle will work just as well, and it's less time-consuming
booster bags don't keep magnet detectors from detecting magnets. booster bags work as faraday cages - they block electromagnetic signals from escaping, which is why they work on rfids and hard tags. but magnet detectors can sense magnetic signals, not electromagnetic, so a faraday cage won't shield your magnet from detection. neither will a metal box or burying the magnet in clothing - i don't think there's anything that will keep a magnet detector from sensing the magnetic signals. if you're scared of your magnet being detected, don't bring the magnet
also, magnet detectors are a lot rarer than you think. you won't find them everywhere. the way i used to measure it was 1/15 urban outfitters had them based on my own experiences😂 you can spot them pretty easily - they're slim glass towers installed alongside regular ones. if you accidentally go into a store that has them with your magnet, body conceal your magnet and leave after a brief time browsing to avoid looking sus. you can also enter and exit the store in a group if you know of the towers but want to use your magnet anyway. newbies seem very scared of these towers, which i get, but they're not common at all
you don't have to stop for an SA or LP at the doors. obviously this depends on your country's laws. i think newbies in particular become paralysed by fear and consent to a search when they don't have to. the authority that SAs and LP hold isn't as powerful as you think, and they don't have the lawful right to make you consent to a search. you could go full Karen to avoid this if you're old enough, but sometimes a simple "no" or "no thanks" will suffice. don't get sucked into an argument either, just refuse or ignore them and exit as fast as you can without running. again, leaving in a group is helpful for this since you can feign ignorance and leave without responding (don't make eye contact lol)
you can't physically lift items out of the reach of security towers. towers detect things an equal distance around the towers. if two towers are a metre apart, that is the extent of their reach all around, above, and below them. if the merch is a metre away from the towers at the entrance, that is the extent the towers can detect tag signals. just saying this bc i've seen newbies suggest putting tags/a magnet in their bun, or pretending to stretch as they exit the store with an item in their fist to avoid setting off the towers. that won't work sadly
don't over-explain yourself, it's a signifier of nerves. if an SA approaches you to see if you need help, a simple 'no thanks' or 'no thank you i'm just browsing' is fine. nip it in the bud and don't provide more detail than necessary. it feels curt when you're nervous but most customers don't want to chat imo
make sure not to react physically to things around you. if someone sets off the security towers while you're browsing don't look around, continue as you are. ignore people who walk by you, don't glance at everyone who comes your way. this is because LP know that lifters are twitchy so sometimes they'll set up nearby distractions to see if you're keeping an eye on your surroundings
okay i'm scraping the bottom of the barrell and this chance to complain about my newbie pet peeves was very therapeutic, thank you!! also if you do these things dw it's all natural when you're new, plus there's always room for improvement and growth. i hope this can help any bby lifters out there💗💗💗
Wow, this is so thorough!! Newbies (or anyone, really) read this through for some kind and helpful reminders!!
i wanna do a 🧬 so badly (i haven’t done one before) but i don’t have the money to risk it just in case it doesn’t work out, you know?
i’m coming for âërīè once i get my check.
any tips are appreciated.
look, I hate jeff bezos as much as the next decent person, but stealing shit from amazon is not fucking over amazon the company in the same way that yelling at the mcdonalds employee doesn't increase how much they pay there workers. a lot of things sold on amazon are sold by resellers doing it as a side gig who make a realatively small profit doing it, and while some of the people selling on amazon are fair game, a lot of people aren't. make sure to check the seller you are buying from before doing a dna.
Always check whos supplying the product!! If its supplied by Amazon warehouse or a big company its fair game.
im angry >:(
I know I got a small little platform on here and have not posted a haul (only bc I’m nervous of the data info) I’ve been doing this for 10 years and I see a lot of posts that are so concerning. If you’re out and you notice someone comes up to you 3 times, you need to abort! Is $30 worth of drug store stuff really that important?! If you’re posting pics of a haul that’s hella big and then note you beeped bc you didn’t notice tags and don’t even know how to remove them, you need to step up you’re research. Please remember this is not a game! Just bc you are home “safe” with your stuff doesn’t mean your good. Stay alert at all times, if something doesn’t feel right it’s probably a sign you need to ditch! Even though I’ve been doing this for a minute, I’ve had plenty of times I’ve had to change the plan bc shit didn’t feel right. There’s always another time. Just my 2 cents. Stay safe, that’s the goal ❤️
This 🙌🏻👍🏻🙏⬆️
does wäłłmärt case build??
Yes
Please spread the word. I'm a LP for Target and we keep a log of all serial #s on all laptops, consoles, and TVs so when they go missing, we report the serial number. The lifter who took it is usually found because the police track it if it's connected to the internet. So PLEASE, don't lift expensive electronics because A. It requires tremendous skill to get it out of the store undetected, and B. They will track it if it's connected to the web.
oh yikes!!☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️☝️
Not a surprise in the least. But very good to know!
REPOST: Original had thousands of notes and you guys need to stop reblogging it 🤪
"quick post to spread some info! i haven’t seen any posts on here with a complete breakdown of all types of security cameras you may encounter… well, this isn’t it either, but there are a couple that you should be able to recognize if you dont want to get caught. many stores use these covert cameras- i frequently see the speaker and motion sensor cams. please be careful everyone!!!"
going through my followers, if you’re not a lifting blog i’m blocking you
just a reminder that with the influx of tiktok lífters, anonymity is super important on liftbIr, you never know who is who on this app. don’t be a stranger to the block button
Tips for the Ultimate lifting outfit (autumn/winter/spring edition)
This advice post is ideal for:
1) a female that doesn’t look too young/can pass as mid 20s
2) wants to lift clothing / small items to conceal on body
3) plans to lift mon-fri because this look is very workwear. The persona you’re playing here is rich classy yet immemorable lady working a well paying office job (probably accounting, finance or audit-you choose). You are BLAND (Boring, Lacklustre, Average, Nondescript, Day job worker) lol I came up with this acronym myself!
-TOP
You want to wear a light/pale coloured blouse (apparently light colours make you look less sus) that is flowy, yet modest, expensive looking and slightly fashionable. Example:
This top I wore today is ideal because: loads of room to conceal at the bust and around waist/hips, expensive thick satin fabric (costed $125 even on sale and I lifted it), fashionable wide sleeves which you can conceal stuff in (wear a tight log sleeves top under to secure stuff in) and is modest and not eye catching.
-BOTTOM
You want to wear pants which are loose enough to fit more pants under, yet not too loose to be sus. You should choose a fabric which skims and has a little stretch to it (so choose a synthetic fabric) so that you look natural even with items packed under. It’s ok to wear dark pants because both light top and light bottom may be attention grabbing. Black pants are a professional work look.
These are the pants I like to wear when lifting leggings (comfortably fitting 4 pairs under, could probably fit a few more). You can easily wear spanx under and fit stuff in waistband too. Waist tie comes in handy when I’m concealing hangers on body because i can use it to tie the hanger tight against my body for more security. Choose a pair that covers your ankles (easy for shorter gals). Remember not to tuck your shirt in so that the loose top will float over any bulkiness.
Ps these shoes are a great example of shoes to wear, as long as they’re comfortable!
-HAIR
Your hair is an important part of your disguise. Choose a wig that is different to your natural hair. Think different length, colour, curl/wave, texture- as long as it looks natural and believable! POC should stick to darker colours (up to a hazel/light ashy brown, maybe caramel if you can pull it off). Now is not the time to experiment with fun colours and styles! Remember, you are BLAND. Example:
This is the one I have. It screams sweet, nice girl next door who would never hurt a fly, let alone shoplift. Was $7 of AliExpress!
Wig tips:
Bangs or lace front, you want to be natural and nothing looks worse than a weirdly stark hairline. Don’t be afraid to trim the bangs and the overall hair so it fits you better. Get a wig cap for underneath. Reduce unnatural shine with a little baby powder or dry shampoo. Muss the wig just a little- no one has perfectly smooth helmet hair! Don’t accessorise your wig because a BLAND person would not have the creativity/guts to do so.
-BAG
Neutral colours and structured bag! No pom-poms or shiny stuff hanging off your bag. You wanna look mature!
You might want a small crossbody bag if you’re concealing on body because it makes you look innocent (how can she fit those 69 leggings she took into that tiny bag anyways). Bring a spare plastic shopping bag or two in your crossbody if you need it. Keep your hook/magnet in bra/on person.
Example:
So smol and cute and nude! Although I just lifted this today I can envision it fitting a couple of rolled up tops and some makeup in there.
If you’re going for a bigger bag, make sure it looks like a structured work bag. Think:
Obviously there are better examples floating about in the community.
-COAT/JACKET
I suggest not bringing one unless where you live it’s superrrrr cold like in the negatives. Your wig and the multiple clothing items you’re body concealing will keep you warm. Wigs get real hot after a while!
If you’re not wearing a coat, it’s the perfect excuse to lift one during your trip- just drape one over your arm right at the beginning, shop around a little, bring stuff into change rooms, detag coat, then bring coat out with you over your arm.
If you must bring a coat, try one with lapels and defined shoulders so it looks like a professional work coat, preferably in a nude/cream/light neutral colour. Example:
A coat makes it easier to conceal more stuff under as it smooths everything out, especially if it’s a thicker fabric with a structured fit.
-GROOMING
This advice is pretty standard. Light, professional makeup applied well helps. Remember, a BLAND person won’t have crazy eyeshadow at her boring day job!
Have your nails look nice and neat in a neutral colour. Look expensive and classy. No thotty instagram stiletto nails here!
Don’t wear jewellery, especially on hands if you’re concealing on floor. Bright shiny things catch the eye.
Just be clean and well groomed, like you look after yourself. You want to look mature yet still sweet and innocent and incapable of committing crime. Long wispy eyelashes and inner corner highlight might help here!
Consider wearing fake glasses/coloured contacts to amp up your disguise! Maybe even a fake lanyard with some fake ID thingy in it will reinforce that you work somewhere. Don’t have any noticeable tattoos with this look (small dainty ones are ok).
Wear black flat/ comfortable office-appropriate shoes.

GREAT EFFING POST THANK YOU
lifting tumblr culture is scrolling through the same 20 posts for three weeks cause we all fucking follow each other
ridiculous long list of collected tips.
michael’s -no chase policy -cameras above the doors and registers -blind spots: knitting/embroidering, woodcrafts, paints, plants; avoid other customers -nothing is tagged -dress niceish -best if you go by yourself -go either an hour or two after opening or closing
victoria’s secret -no lp -bras are tagged, panties are not -no chase policy
terrible companies -too faced -lush -the body shop -urban outfitters -american apparel -whole foods -trader joe’s
starbucks -four cameras: over the door, over the safe, over the register & over the manager’s desk in the back. manager’s don’t have access to the camera footage; they can only access it after an ‘incident’ has occurred -no chase policy -watch out for other customers -bagged coffee and mugs make nice presents and are only inventoried once a month. -nothing is tagged -the fridge with juices and salads cannot be seen from the barista side of the counter. baristas not held liable for it -instant coffees are pretty good and there are cute mugs around christmas -don’t be a scumbag and steal from the tip jar jfc
general -double-check for secutiry tags -sensors inside cardboard tags in clothing -just double-check everything -if you’re lifting all day with your car, keep an empty gym bag in your backseat and dump stuff there in between stores -if the barcode is printed on the product and it is not a sticker, it won’t go off! -if you can, detag/conceal/etc in the men’s dressing room -bring your signifcant other and kiss them passionately if an SA is looking at you -grab two of everything you want - steal one and keep the other in the basket -be confident -don’t get cocky -be careful -if it feels wrong, put it back -browse openly -scope out the places beforehand -the umbrella method: close the umbrella most of the way and drop small items in it (pracitce at home!) -dress like a rich snobby white kid: skinny jeans with boots and a north face & infinity scarf
sephora -never just go in, lift and leave -look around and test out shades. have a question about stuff you’re looking at ready. -test everything. look interested in makeup and new to high end stuff -carry a bag from somewhere else that’s deep enough to shut at the top; ex. forever 21 bags -have a smaller purse and have like a hat or a pair of gloves or something (in the winter) that you can shuffle around in the bag so if an SA spots you mid-conceal or comes around a corner, etc, you can grab your gloves/hat/etc and put them on like you’re getting ready to leave the mall -listen to SA’s on their headsets. if you hear “so and so needs a bag”, drop and run -never lift from a jc penney sephora -if you lift from sephora and feel weird after, go to a place young people usually don’t go. then leave super hard. -it helps to be carrying something expensive with you, or wearing it. look expensive. have expensive taste. -if an SA asks you what you’re wearing for makeup now, always say something expensive. “nars sheer glow and a little bareMinerals powder” works for me. fake expensive taste. -don’t wear headphones. -don’t wear a beanie. -wear lipstick in a noticeable shade. wearing a bright bold lip will make it look you know what you’re doing. if you don’t, go in on a day you won’t be lifing and ask for a tutorial on how to do a lip. -wear heels. youll look classier. -take pictures of things. if an SA shows you an item, take a picture; you’ll look genuinely interested. -if you’re about to leave but feel like someone is onto you, stop and play with a foundation. ask for help finding your shade and ask for a sample. the whole process takes a really long time. act sincerely interested. talk about your current foundation (use an expensive one) and say it breaks you out a bit or dries you out. make it sound worse. have a whole conversation. -when leaving, do not look around at other people. do not. go from looking at a product, checking your phone/the time, then leave. this works well. fake a phone call! say “yeah, i’m just in sephora, i’m leaving in two seconds. where did you want to meet? okay! see you soon.” mentioning the store is pretty helpful. -be really nice.
ulta -some ultas use soft RFID tags on their palettes/expensive items -if there are no blind spots, you can make one by facing the opposite way of the camera, or standing behind a partner -wear something fashionable. do your makeup well. break out your brand-name items… look expensive. look like you can buy that whole store if you wanted to. -bring a big bag; one that has structure so that SAs can’t tell if it’s full or not. lots of lifters like the Michael Kors Jet Set or Selma tote. -walk in; if you’re greeted say hello and smile back -grab an ulta shopping bag. place it in the crook of your elbow. leave your purse up by your shoulder until you can get to a blind spot. -test stuff! -put some stuff in your ulta bag! try putting two of the things you want so it’s not as sus. fill it up with items so it won’t be as noticeable on camera. -find your blind spot and move your purse to the crook of your elbow. conceal. don’t linger. -put the stuff you don’t want back! -if you have a bad feeling, ditch and go -perfumes are super tagged don’t even think about it -don’t park anywhere near it so they can’t track your plates after you leave, just in case -best time: weekday evenings and weekend afternoons -go to prestige and take like one minute, then pick out some random item, then get a shopping bag so it looks like you actually want things -have a question ready, ask for a product they don’t have -blind spots: high-end skincare aisle, low-end haircare aisle, clearance? -do your best to look nice and cute! confidence is key -if you’re not getting good vibes, it’s okay to leave!
old navy -nothing is tagged and there are no cameras??? -dressing rooms aren’t monitored
groceries -go to the biggest 24/7 grocery store and scope it out at like 3-4 am -get a small cart with 2 layers and put two big reusable grocery bags there, open. put your groceries in there while you shop. then just walk out -it’s important that you scope it out before actually going. make sure nobody is stationed at the doors at all times. -if you’re nervous and there’s nobody at the door, walk out looking at an old receipt like you’re looking at how much you spent or the taxes or whatever
urban outfitters -find a store that gives out large paper bags with those stringy handles. ask for a couple for a project on ‘branding’ or something. fill up like a quarter of the space to make it look normal. -there are magnet sensors -little items like books, home accessories, and jewelry can be carried in your hands; find a spot where no one can see you and just stuff what you want into your bag. corners are always good
lush -blindspot in the back of the store with the foot scrubs
for specific things -amiibos aren’t tagged -lift more cotton panties because all that polyester shit ain’t good for your lil gnome garden (via liftinglily)
office depot -nothing is tagged -nobody cares -cute stationary
gap -dressing rooms aren’t monitored -only some things are tagged
icing -no tags
claire’s -fake tags/no tags
sally’s beauty supply -no cameras -no-chase policy -between 5 and 8pm is your best shot -an hour or so after they open is the best time to lift something large; another person doesn’t come in until 10:30 or 11:00
lifting bag -large structured bag so that you can’t tell when it’s full or not
hot topic -the corners are good -bracelets are probably tagged
pier 1 -nothing is tagged -cameras are to monitor employee theft -nice candles, jewelry, scarves, stationary and trinkets
barnes & noble -cameras in toys/collectibles, the music/dvds, comics, the gift card/accessories area, and the sitting/reading area -good blond spot: classic lit -books are tagged sporadically -get a cup of coffee!!
–> message me if you have any corrections or anything!
Great tips! Thanks for putting it together!
So glad I just saw this lmao
Just need to add that the tips about Michaels are almost opposite of what it’s like near me. The tips are 100% wrong. I love these lists, but I definitely take them with a grain of salt.
just going to leave this here
tips😍
there’s no cameras in the kids section at b+n in most places btw :)
