Photography workflow geekery
I was lucky enough to inherit an Eye Fi card of my dad last weekend. After finally getting grips with it I started to think about how I could incorporate it into a meaningful workflow. Ideally, I wanted to be able to take a photo and have that photo end up in Aperture on my Mac with minimal fuss. My final workflow is as follows: 1) Photo is taken 2) EyeFi card sends this photo to Samsung S3 3) DropSync uploads photo to Camera Uploads in Dropbox 4) Photo is downloaded to my Mac by Dropbox 5) Automator monitors my Camera Uploads Dropbox folder 6) When a new photo appears in this folder, Automator launches Aperture and imports the photo into my Inbox Project for filing and processing. Works for me!
Kendo UI - anyone used it?
I was briefed on a new project today which may require me to use Kendo UI. Anyone care to share their experiences of using Kendo UI? At first glance it looks exciting and it appears it can play nicely with backbone.js (which I have some experience of).
Outrageous! Got this in Chrome on S3 while checking school admissions. I guess this sort of thing does still go on...
Mountain Lion development team - you owe me 20mins of life back
Ok, so maybe that's a little harsh. I was developing a front-end web application that actively involved the scrollbars as a necessity. I couldn't for the life of me work out why my scrollbars kept vanishing. CSS problem...? Chrome bug...? Hammered my favourite search engine to no avail. I moved on to another part of the application and started testing in IE on the office PC - low and behold, my scrollbars were fine. Rat smelt. It was at this point I searched for "Mountain Lion vanishing scrollbars' and became aware of this wonderful feature whereby Mountain Lion helpfully hides the scrollbars for you. Thanks Apple!
Fortunately you can force them to be always on in General under the Mac OS X Settings.
Hope this helps someone else.
Time for an OS X upgrade - fingers crossed!
34 minutes remaining in my OS X upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. Hope this isn’t a mistake! Update: it appears everything has gone ss expected ie well. Only minor panic was SVN and Git vanishing but this was rectified by installing command tools in updated Xcode.
Thankyou Tribiq!
Big thanks to http://tribiq.com for giving me six and a half very happy years. Good luck for the future. Roll on the next challenge. ..
My new best friend: Twig
Had a fun day today integrating Twig into Tribiq CMS. Very flexible and I predict it will prove a bit of a swiss army knife for developers using the CMS. Thanks Twig!

So want to go back to school now (albeit with an improved attention span...oh look a bird....where was I?)
Shetland ponies dressed in sweaters to promote Scotland. Not quite sure what the message is...
Do you want to visit Scotland now? http://www.facebook.com/boredpanda/posts/333625940082086
So far we all seem to like it. Personally I'd like to see the developers get a native mobile app out and get their API published so we can have some fun creating some form of Module for our CMS.
It's freezing in the office today but i'm currently reading 'South: The Story of Shackleton's 1914-1917 Expedition' which kind of puts the cold in perspective...
Javascript Frameworks
AngularJS or Backbone.js? In an effort to better organise my web applications, i'm thinking of using a javascript framework for my next project. Both seem to have good and bad points. Anyone feel particularly passionate either way?
Not all that bad really, just new.
Filabot turns plastic waste into raw material for 3D printing By Duncan Geere, wired.co.uk Technology An American college student named Tyler McNaney is developing a machine that recycles plastic household waste into the raw materials for use in 3D printing. The Filabot performs the 21st century equivalent of alche… Great idea!
Organising patches and samples in Ableton Live 8
A few times a year myself and a friend of mine go into my little loft music studio and attempt to be productive. Time is usually short and I have found that a lot of time is wasted trawling through samples and patches. Ideally I would like to go through these before our sessions and favourite/tag samples and patches so they are ready to use when needed. Is there any software that can organise both samples and plugin patches in this way?
