Depression isn’t being shy. Depression isn’t having one bad day. Depression isn’t feeling upset about small things. It’s not cute, or beautiful. It’s not sad songs or poems. It isn’t something you can just “get over”. Just because I’m young doesn’t mean I don’t have a reason to be depressed.

Depression is feeling alone even when you have friends. Depression is having a good day and feeling like something bad is going to happen. Depression is feeling tired when you’re not. It’s when you feel happy one minute, and the you feel numb. It’s not enjoying things that you love.

I’ve been on 6 types of antidepressants in the past year and a half. I’ve had people twice my age tell me “Honey, you’ll get over it.What do you have to be depressed about?” In the span of three weeks I lost three people close to me to heart attacks, and I saw someone kill themself. Three months latler I lost my nana to a heart attack. A few months later I lost a cousin to kidney failure, and just a month ago a childhood friend of mine was murdered.

When my parents got divorced my dad would put me in the middle of their fights. My aunt treated me like shit because she hated my mom. I want someone to understand where I’m coming from. I want them to realize I’m not saying this for attention.

I just want to be happy. I don’t want to be depedant on a fucking pill to be a “fuctioning” member of society. I don’t want pity looks when I go to pick up a prescription. Am i asking too much?

Companies have just started to make wedding cards featuring same-sex couples in the last two years. This year for the first time a major distributor made same sex Valentines Day cards! I was over the moon!  

This is from Papyrus! They are a great card company that you can get at loads of stores like Target. 

BUT THEIR WEDDING ONES ARE BRAND NEW AND AWESOME. 

See that matching set of ties? That was our best selling wedding card about four to six months after marriage equality became legal in our state! Do you know how many nervous old women I had to help pick out a same-sex card? LIKE SO MANY. 

I had a man in his 90′s who was super nervous even ask me (quote), “I don’t mean to be offensive I just don’t know the word for a girl who likes girls and I don’t know what card to get my great niece.” And I was like, “The word is lesbian, you aren’t being at all offensive, and this card here will be perfect.” BEST DAY OF MY WORKING LIFE OKAY.
