found this on twitter and yeah — while a part of me is convinced this one’s a bot, unfortunately there are people who actually leave this kind of comment on writers’ works — this and the ai witch hunt are the exact reasons more and more writers stop sharing their works. the level of entitlement to be walking inside someone’s house, after they were kind enough to let you in, and then starting to criticize the way they decorate their rooms when you can just quietly leave if you don’t have anything nice to say.

fanfics are something writers do for themselves. we don’t get paid for it. we write whatever makes us happy for our own enjoyment. if you dislike it, that’s cool. quietly exit the fic and find something else to read. or better yet, write it yourself.

you as a reader are not our customer. we don’t write for you. we don’t write to please you. we just give you the privilege of reading our works for free. whether or not you’ll read it, whether or not you’ll like it, is not our business. but you are rude and entitled to be criticizing fanfics like it’s something you paid for and not a gift people were kind enough to give. if we want constructive criticism, we will ask for one. if we didn’t ask, stay quiet if you don’t have anything nice to say.

not to mention, more often than not, your constructive criticism is never really a constructive criticism but what you personally want to read. keep this up and eventually there will be no fanfics for you to read because no one wants to share their works for free anymore if people will just be this rude and entitled.

BE KIND AND RESPECTFUL TO FANFIC WRITERS AND FAN ARTISTS OR BE QUIET.

I had this dream the other night, and the only part of it I can really remember is that my husband and I were on a pirate ship, and I dream in third person, so it was like watching something out of a romance movie where I looked up at him and we were smiling at each other and then I excuse my self because that’s the moment I realize I’m in love with him yadda yadda that romantic trope nonsense.

SO I took that idea and I ran with it. Whether this is going to be old timey pirates, more modern pirates, space pirates, or if they’re even going to be pirates at all is still up to debate, but the main characters are Noel and Damien and I just can’t help but love it.

I’m the kind of lady who LOVES cliches and shit, there fore a majority of my stories are driven by stuff like that. So basically all I have is Damien kidnaps Noel (reasons: unknown but probably money related) and then when the ransom never shows he’s now stuck with this princess/rich chick/daughter of something important etc. so he teaches her the ways of the ship and they start falling in love AND that’s when I drop the scene from my dream onto poor Noel, meanwhile Damien is oblivious as fuck to it because reasons.

so THEN, the baddie shows up. Why the fuck this man has it out for Damien I still don’t know, but basically he wants to snatch Noel up for the ransom I guess and Damien tells Noel to hide below the deck when the baddie comes to invade.

The baddie kicks the shit out of him and is about to murder him when Noel intervenes and offers to become Baddie’s bride if he lets Damien live, which Damien protests and I can imagine him being incredibly extra about it. I haven’t decided if Noel is going to be like “Yo I gotta do this because I love you” or if she’s gonna get shoved off before she gets the chance.

And then the baddie is an asshole and blows the ship up, so Damien and the first mate wash up on some island and meet this witch chick who can talk to birds and it’s just so good

I’m probably going to write it for NaNoWriMo this year.

I’m reblogging this because FINALLY, ALMOST 10 YEARS LATER, I’m writing this book!

Granted, the plot has changed A FUCK TON since this post. Like, A LOT. The premise is the same, Damien kidnaps Noel from her island. But NOW Damien has a REASON for doing it, Noel’s mom has become the antagonist (instead of said nameless baddie in the post), the aforementioned witch chick is named Cassandra now (well she was back then as well) but now she’s carrying the B plot where she’s trying to figure out what happened to Noel with the help of some dude named Cole, while not being Veronica’s (Noel’s mom) biggest fan (but it’s ok because Veronica doesn’t like her either).

Veronica becoming the antagonist is probably my favorite plot change? Like, she’s such a MEAN LADY and I love her but I also hate her so much. Roderick is probably the only character who has not had such a drastic change to his character, still a distant father but like, at least he shows concern when his daughter goes missing, VERONICA.

Anyways so I’m almost 40k words into the first draft and I am literally so excited this is going to be my debut novel
